Midna
The Twilight Princess, cousin of Verona, and a close friend to Link.
- Benevolent Mage Ruler: She's the ruler of the Twilight Realm, definitely on the side of good, and she can use magic.
- The Bus Came Back: Her last words to Link before breaking the Mirror of Twilight were: "See you later." Turns out she wasn't kidding.
- Changeling Fantasy: Inverted; she is not happy to discover that she is a descendant of a monster like Veran.
- Dark Is Not Evil: Even though she is the ruler of the shadowy Twilight Realm, she is actually quite benevolent.
- Deadpan Snarker: Very much so, especially in regards to Link.
- Fiery Redhead
- Forced Transformation: As of chapter 9, Midna has been cursed into her imp form once more by Verona.
- Here We Go Again!: Once again, she is transformed into an imp like she was in Twilight Princess.
- The Imp
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold
- The Nicknamer: Calls Link "her little wolf", much to his aggravation.
- The Not-Love Interest: MiniJen has made it quite clear that Link and Midna will not be shipped in Light and Shadow, as opposed to some hints of romance between them seen in Twilight Princess.
- One Head Taller: Than Link and Zelda in her true form.
- Prehensile Hair
- Shipper on Deck: She makes it quite clear that she wants Link and Zelda to get together, and she even plays matchmaker between them in a few ways.
- Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She has a bit of a mean streak, but she can be genuinely kind when she wants to be.
- True Companions: With Link.
- Tsundere
Verona
The Big Bad of the story and a descendant of Veran, who seeks to continue Veran's legacy and finish what her ancestor started.
- Ambition Is Evil: She originally aspired to be the Twilight Princess, but was passed over in favor of Midna. Now, she plans to finish what Veran started generations ago.
- Affably Evil: She's quite pleasant and polite, and states on more than one occasion that she prefers to avoid unnecessary violence.
- Alas, Poor Villain: After hearing her tragic backstory, even Link has to feel sorry for Verona, and can even empathize with what she went through.
- Bait the Dog: She does this with Link by showing kindness to him when nearly everyone else has abandoned him, though to the reader, its implied that its all a ruse so she can lure him in and gradually steal his spirit.
- Cain and Abel: The Cain to Midna's Abel, though they're cousins rather than siblings.
- Chessmaster: Its implied that she already has all of her plans figured out and everything lined up for them to be fulfilled.
- The Corrupter: She feeds Link lies about both Zelda and Hyrule in order to turn him against them, as well as using her own magic to spark hatred, rage, and darkness inside of him so that she can turn him to the side of shadows.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: In the first chapter, she beats Midna so badly that Midna is forced to retreat to Hyrule to get Link's help.
- Dark Is Evil: In contrast to Midna's case, in which it is not.
- Even Evil Has Standards: While fighting Midna, Verona gives her the chance to give up because, despite their differences, she's "not too keen" on having to kill family members.
- Evil Duo: Her and Link, with Link essentially being The Dragon.
- Evil Mentor: To Link, as she teaches him how to use his powers by utilizing his darker emotions to cause destruction.
- Evil Redhead
- Evil Wears Black: She wears a long black cape.
- Friendly Enemy: To Link, so she can lure him to her side.
- From Nobody to Nightmare: She went from being a rather shy, reserved young woman, to a scorned, treacherous, power hungry murderess.
- Hot Witch: She is described in the narration as being "exotically beautiful".
- In the Blood: She is certainly a descendant of Veran, right down to praising the Sorceress's ambitions and seeking to succeed in taking over Hyrule where she had failed.
- Lady of Black Magic
- Love Makes You Evil: After losing the love of her life to the marriage traditions of the Twili and being exiled by that very same love, Verona vows to return and wreak havoc upon anyone who ever scorned her.
- Magic Staff: Her main weapon and a symbol of her authority.
- No-Nonsense Nemesis: She's considerably less prone to Villain Balls and Bond Villain Stupidity than Veress and Veran.
- One Head Taller: She's noted to be even taller than Midna, who herself is One Head Taller than Link and Zelda, in part because she's a few years older than Midna.
- We Can Rule Together: Makes this offer to Link, under the guise that they would be freeing Hyrule from Zelda's corrupted reign. And, after all the abuse that Link has gone through under both the people of Hyrule and their queen, he actually accepts.
Ilia
Link's childhood friend from Ordon Village.
- Childhood Friend Romance: Its implied that she has this with Link.
- Farm Girl
- Girl Next Door
- Just Friends: With Link, though she longs for their relationship to be more.
- Tsundere: The Sweet kind, as she is normally very kind and sweet, but when angered or upset she can turn into an entirely different person.
- Unlucky Childhood Friend: With Link, as its implied she has a huge crush on him, but he chooses Zelda over her, despite only knowing the queen for a few days
