Tank Heroes

    Arduin, the Spirit
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_arduin_350x441.jpg
"The thrill of battle... is all I have left."
Voiced by:
Faction: Lokheim
Honor of Kings counterpart: Xiahou Dun

Arduin was a mighty, well-known warrior of Veda, as well as a good friend and rival forged through various honor-based fights with Thane, the legendary monarch of Norman. They fought together back-to-back until the second invasion of Lokheim, where for once, Arduin and Thane argued on how to proceed, with him favoring offense while Thane favored defense. Ignoring Thane's advice, Arduin charged into the forces of Lokheim. Despite being overwhelmed, he continued to fight forward and even saved a few of his soldiers. The armor given by Veda was protecting him from the frostfire that scorched his men. But his heroism came to an end when Veera personally interfered and used her own powerful frost fire to render his armor of Veda useless and kill him. His spirit still remained attached to his armor, however, so Veera replaced the holy protection with a dark seal, turning Arduin from a legendary holy hero into a darker, sheer force of power inhabiting the armor.

Arduin is a Tank/Warrior hero whose massive axe can turn the tide of a battle due to his high sustain and crowd control.

  • His passive is Bloodlust. Arduin is driven into a fury when his HP reaches half. For a short period of time, Arduin regains a percentage of his max HP when damaging enemies.
  • His first ability is Rend. Arduin sends out a burst of energy with his axe that damages and slows the enemy. If he hits an enemy hero, he can follow up with a smash that damages and knocks up the target.
  • His second ability is Undying Protector. Arduin creates a shield equal to a percentage of his max HP, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies in the process. For a few seconds afterwards, Arduin's basic attacks deal additional true damage and lower the cooldown of his ultimate.
  • His ultimate is Cull. Arduin throws his axe at a target from a distance, stunning them. He then launches himself where the axe landed, dealing additional damage. He also becomes CC-immune as he casts the ability.

    Ata, White Anchor
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_ata_350x441.jpg
"Call me captain! Not Ata."
Voiced by: Casey Mongillo (EN)
Faction: N/A (Hangs around Carano City)
Honor of Kings counterpart: Zhu Bajie

A member of the Kentein race, half-orcs with feline features who were discriminated against for religious beliefs. He has no memories of his parents. After working as a longshoreman in the town of Botland, he encountered a pirate ship and eventually became a pirate to fulfill his dream to travel on the open seas, later succeeding the ship's captain. During a treasure hunt, he found an artifact known as the Sea Pearl, which he imbued into his anchor, making him a terror of the seas. During his travels, he stopped by at the Magic City of Carano and made quite a few friends, including archmage Dirak and his eventual crush, Annette.

Ata is a Tank/Support hero who often goes to the top slayer lane instead, where he uses his mastery over the sea and the ways of a pirate to disrupt and crush his enemies.

  • His passive is Child of the Sea. If Ata loses HP, it is temporarily saved as a buffer (represented by a grey bar rather than a black bar). As long as the buffer exists, Ata's attacks will steal a good amount of life. The buffer will diminish over time, however. Meanwhile, Ata also gains attack power that scales with his maximum HP.
  • His first skill is Wavewalking. Ata hops a short distance and stomps the ground with his anchor head-on, dealing damage to enemies nearby. He then hops and stomps one more time, but the second stomp can be redirected with his movement. The second stomp also temporarily stuns his enemies while briefly giving him anti-crowd control.
  • His second skill is Sea Anchor. Ata brandishes his anchor forward, dealing damage to all enemies and dragging them to him. If the anchor instead hits an obstacle, he drags himself to the obstacle, taking along any enemies caught in the area and stunning them.
  • His ultimate is Ghost Ship. Ata summons a ghost ship barricade that blocks the enemy path and deals damage to the enemies somehow standing on the barricade's spawning point. As long as the ghost ship stands, he cannot be crowd-controlled.

  • Anchors Away: Since he's a pirate, his main weapon is an anchor.
  • Fantastic Racism: Being a Kentein, Ata has been a victim of discrimination everywhere, though we have yet to see any other Kentein. Thankfully, he generally doesn't discriminate.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Being a Kentein means that he's half-orc. His orcish nature doesn't show much, though.
  • Little Bit Beastly: As a member of the Kentein, he's got feline features like cat ears and a cat tail.
  • Making a Splash: Downplayed. He has a lot of sea themes, but his skills have a minimum amount of water manipulation. It's just mostly physical, pirate-based, or bizarre things with some watery images sprinkled on them. And he's certainly not going to use that magic octopus tentacle he displayed in his opening animation.
  • Not the Intended Use: He's actually more of a top laner than the support that the game intended him to be because he's surprisingly durable and self-sustainable.
  • Pirate: He's a pirate boy, complete with the typical pirate hat and anchor as weapon. Surprisingly, despite the similar themes and weaponry, he's not an Expy of the predecessor's pirate boy Sun Ce.

    Baldum, the Monolith
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_baldum_350x441.jpg
"Ah... my vigil shall never be broken!"
Voiced by: Takaya Kuroda (JP)
Faction: Afata
Honor of Kings counterpart: N/A

One of the most ancient beings of the forests of Afata, predating even their king and queen. A stoic, righteous, agile, and powerful creature, Baldum is part of the Centaur race that kept the vigilance of the Afata and fought against the Abyss multiple times. He wields the mystical Cosmic Totem that had the power of time, which kept him immortal but doomed him to watch his species die one by one, leaving only him as the last of the centaurs. After the war against the Abyss, Baldum was requested by the Tree of Life Y'bneth to keep a vigil over the Abyssal Fissure near Mt. Orpheus. For millennia, Baldum was thought to be a mere legend, until Volkath and the Abyss returned, reigniting his warrior spirit and launching him back into action, culminating in his triumphant return to Athanor.

Baldum is a towering Tank/Support Hero who is as nimble as he is powerful, quickly disrupting the battlefield and wreaking havoc with his might.

  • His passive is Hulking. When Baldum hits an enemy with his skill, that enemy will receive extra damage taken when attacked by Baldum.
  • His first ability is Wild Charge. Baldum dashes forward, damaging every enemy that comes in contact with him. If he crashes into an enemy hero, Baldum then throws the hero behind him with his totem, dealing damage based on their max HP. Unlike other dash skills, Baldum cannot dash over obstacles with this skill.
  • His second ability is Wild Stomp. Baldum stomps the ground, and it creates continuous shockwaves that continue to deal damage to those caught in them. Those caught in the wave will be debuffed so that if they attack Baldum, they will deal reduced damage. Whenever the skill hits an enemy hero or jungle minion, Baldum receives a damage reduction.
  • His ultimate is Wild Prison. Baldum targets an enemy and smashes the earth with his totem, where it will create a fissure that creates a big circular hole aimed at the enemy he targeted, which heavily slows down the enemy caught in it. After a second, the hole closes in, trapping enemies that haven't escaped and continuously dealing damage to them while making them untargetable. After a few moment, the hole opens up, and freed enemies will be knocked up.

  • Emerald Power: Baldum is one of Afata's most ancient and powerful beings, surpassing Tel'Annas. His body is mostly of green emerald color to show that.
  • Immortality: Thanks to wielding the Cosmic Totem, Baldum is cursed with eternal life and has to watch his race dwindle down until he's the last one remaining.
  • Last of His Kind: Baldum is the last remaining centaur in Athanor. Even if Peura is a half-deer centaur, she's a whole different kind of creature than Baldum. Even more enforced by Tencent: Peura ends up getting Killed Off for Real, replaced by her humanoid apprentice Helen, leaving Baldum as the only half-horse being in Athanor.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Downplayed. He's said to be both agile and powerful, and generally, deals considerable damage while getting onto the battlefield as quickly as possible with his dash. But being designated as a Tank/Support means that Baldum would not be killing people in a few hits.
  • Our Centaurs Are Different: Baldum is a hulking ancient beast with more melee capabilities than archery, which is typically assigned to centaurs in general.
  • Shockwave Stomp: Wild Stomp is when Baldum repeatedly do this while walking for a few seconds.

    Chaugnar, Herald of the Void
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_chaugnar_350x441.jpg
"Speak my true name! I dare you!"
Voiced by: Joji Nakata (JP)
Faction: Unknown (Related to Afata, but it's not quite known)
Honor of Kings counterpart: Zhuang Zhou/Dreambuilder

An ancient mammoth corrupted by the energy of chaos. Chaugnar became an envoy of chaos afterwards, seeing existence as merely an endless battle between order and chaos; everything else is meaningless. Those who approach him would be inflicted with madness with his mere presence alone. Several gifted humans sealed him in the Black Sea, but they could only postpone the inevitable; cracks would form, and Chaugnar would be free once more.

Chaugnar is a Tank/Support Hero who is tough and doesn't deal too much damage, but he will grant enormous protection to his friends, and his mere presence disrupts the enemy.

  • His passive is Faithful Herald. For every use of his second skill, Chaugnar removes crowd control within him and gives himself increased movement speed.
  • His first skill is Shock Wave. Chaugnar unleashes a circular shockwave around him and deals damage to his enemies. The cooldown is pretty low, so he could cast it again in a short time, after which the next casting damage will increase up to two times. Usage of this skill also reduces the second skill's cooldown.
  • His second skill is Energy Surge. Chaugnar smashes the ground and unleashes energy geysers in a cone. They deal magic damage and slow enemies caught in them.
  • His ultimate is Chaos Protection. Allies near Chaugnar are restored by their crowd control effects and are further protected from them while receiving damage reduction. It only lasts for 0.5 seconds for allies, but Chaugnar himself gets a 3-second effect. The cooldown of the Shock Wave is reduced and its mana cost rendered non-existent when used during this period.

  • Adaptational Villainy: As opposed to Zhuang Zhou being a wise teacher with heads on his cloud, Chaugnar is a chaos-bringing abomination and Expy of Cthulhu.
  • Cruel Elephant: A mammoth corrupted by ancient chaos energy, transforming it into a Cthulhu-esque abomination. Even when he's mostly a Support hero, he's being supportive by going into the enemy ranks and messing with the people there as they futilely try to stop his advance.
  • Eldritch Abomination: A Cthulhu-like being possessing a mammoth out to inflict everyone with madness.
  • Expy: A Cthulhu-esque creature that takes the form of an elephant creature? Chaugnar is basically Tencent's take of the hero Cthulhuphant from Heroes of Newerth
  • No-Sell: He's all about getting rid of crowd control. If an enemy uses mass stun to put his team on the ropes, Chaugnar can simply cancel it out with his ult.
  • Stone Wall: He specializes so much in crowd control removal that his damage becomes puny. However, Chaugnar is just naturally tanky and hard to stop by normal means, so beating him down would take a lot of effort.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Sort of? While his lore was due for a rewrite, Chaugnar is lumped with the forest-dwelling Afata, where at least sea creatures like Kil'groth and Cresht were affiliated. But he stands far above the destructive intentions those two could ever have.

    Gildur, the Golden King

"I can bench-press 40 gold bars!"Click for his old design
Voiced by: Fumihiko Tachiki (JP)
Faction: Veda
Honor of Kings counterpart: Mozi/Peacekeeper

Formerly a man of wealth via his own knowledge and hard work, Gildur lived in the Norman Kingdom under the Dukedom of Bach. But for some reason, the duke banished him and stripped him from his wealth. From that point on, Gildur worked even harder, but with a dash of extra ruthlessness like his business rivals, dreaming to one day retake his land and wealth. He then discovered a loophole that enabled him to get the backing of the Norman Kingdom to eventually have him take over the Dukedom of Bach and reduced the duke into a figurehead ruler. All because he earned so much gold and influence.

Eventually Gildur grew old and realized that eventually death would claim him and separate him from his wealth. So, he sought of a way to become immortal. It just happened that he had contacts with Veda and learned about being an Archon and the benefits of immortality with it. Therefore, Gildur applied to become an Archon of Veda, being tasked to manage the Hall of Wealth, and he got to keep his wealth... no matter the cost.

Gildur is a Tank/Mage hero who's able to dish out damage and keep his enemies stuck in place at the same time, all while being able to take more hits than any other mages.

  • His passive is Midas Touch. Gildur gains a shield every time he uses an ability, and in every one of his fourth attacks, he deals bonus magical damage and also knocks his enemies back.
  • His first skill is Siege. Gildur dashes forward and damages everyone in his path. Afterwards, his next attack will activate his passive.
  • His second skill is Extravagant. Gildur launches a molten gold ball, which explodes on impact with an enemy, causing area damage and stunning everyone caught in the path.
  • His ultimate is Indulgence. Gildur channels and summons many golden shards that fly around him, damaging and stunning everyone over time. This ability can be interrupted only after 1 second of channeling.

  • Adaptational Villainy: Mozi certainly isn't a greedy asshole or a Token Evil Teammate to his faction like Gildur.
  • Expy: Of the mythological King Midas, while his old model is based on the hero Midas from Heroes of Newerth'.
  • Genius Bruiser: Gildur is a towering man that can definitely take several hits, and yet he depends greatly on his magic power to lay out destruction. He's one of the rare heroes designated as 'Tank/Mage'. Additionally, he's a towering, yet crafty man who used his wits to win back his wealth after being stripped from it, and then for good measure, make those responsible (the Dukedom of Bach) pay non-violently (by turning them into his puppet rulers and ruling them from the shadows) for striking against him first.
  • Greed: Defines Gildur, pretty much. He's the type that after being offered a taste of power, feels like he wants more. And then he realized the potential of the religious life of Veda.
  • Immortality Seeker: After being aware of how he's going to die as a mortal and lose his wealth afterwards, Gildur searches for a way to be immortal and not lose the wealth. He finds his solution in becoming an Archon of Veda.
  • Light Is Not Good: He is an Archon of Veda. He commands the bright power of gold. He is also a greedy asshole and shows why Veda isn't as squeaky clean as they presented themselves. For example, Gildur specifically screws over Taara's tribe in order to keep his domain and forces her to succumb to Lokheim's temptations.
  • Kamehame Hadoken: Extravagant is delivered by Gildur putting his palm together and launching an explosive golden ball.
  • Pet the Dog: The only good thing he has done is to generously recruit Laville and pay his monthly wages after the latter practically wrecked one of his source of profits, his casino, allowing Laville to pay the debt of his friend. He could have just condemned Laville into his slave, but Gildur instead prioritizes his potential to be a member of Veda. Though the minor tradeoff is that while Laville shows that he's as talented as Gildur foresaw, he's often considered 'annoying' by a lot of Veda members.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!:
    • King having authorities? Veda having bureaucracy and a rank-climbing system for more influence? Screw those. Gildur flashes his massive gold collection, and then he gets all of them at once.
    • In his newer lore, this is actually a plot point: Gildur got the backing of Norman Kingdom for his revenge against the Dukedom of Bach because he promised that he'll pay the Norman Kingdom an extremely high amount of tax via his own hard work. It worked.
  • Slouch of Villainy: In his opening animation, he used his own gold power to create a throne for him to sit on while putting his cheek on his fist, similar to most "villains on a throne". Take note that he's doing this while among the ranks of Veda.

    Max, the Wunderkind
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_max_350x441.jpg
"That's right. I'm a genius!"
Voiced by: Mutsumi Tamura (JP)
Faction: Federation of Free
Honor of Kings counterpart: Nezha

Max is a Tank hero who slowly drains his opponent's health with true damage and unparalleled initiation. His passive Static Shock puts a debuff on enemies Max damages, lowering their healing and dealing a small amount of true damage over time. His first ability Bionic Blender is a spin attack that deals physical damage and increases Max's movement speed for each enemy hit. His second ability Smooth Moves has Max jump over his foe, stunning them for a few moments while giving himself damage reduction for a few seconds afterwards. The ability can be used twice in quick succession before going on cooldown. His ultimate Liftoff will reveal the enemy team while preventing them from recalling. Max can then follow up by flying to an enemy hero of his choosing, dealing considerable physical damage and knocking them back if he hits them. After the flight ends, regardless of whether he hit an enemy, he actvates a shield that grants damage and CC resistance as well as apply his passive to nearby enemies

    Mina, the Reaper Queen
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_mina_350x441.jpg
"Death lurks behind every corner."
Voiced by: Yukiyo Fujii (JP)
Faction: Lokheim
Honor of Kings counterpart: Bai Qi

Mina was a poor peasant girl born under the Abyss' curse, which would normally turn people into ravenous demons, but she somehow possessed willpower to resist it and could use such power to defend herself. And yet, her life was miserable because of it; she couldn't bear children, the law prohibited marriage with people like her, and she was so estranged by her parents' insensitive words that she chose to live a secluded life, rejecting any suitors that approached her. Eventually her powers attracted the dark mage Lorion, who wanted to use her for his own purposes. However, Mina's dark powers exploded so greatly that they overwhelmed Lorion and his dark mages. In the end, Lorion offered her to Veera of the Abyss, who quickly made Mina her servant to spread destruction and chaos, also fueled by Mina's disgust with the world that gave her nothing but misery.

Mina is a Tank/Support hero who utilizes her massive scythe and dark powers to control the battlefield and disrupt her opponents.

  • Her passive is Sweet Revenge. Mina gains stacks of movement speed for every time she's hit or hits; when it reaches 10 stacks, she's cured from her status ailments, becoming immune to slow, which affects her first skill in a way.
  • Her first skill is Whirling Scythe. Mina swings her scythe, dealing damage to enemies around her. The damage scales with her HP and restores a small portion of her HP per enemy hit. If her passive is maxed, it now restores 100% HP based on damage and also deals true damage.
  • Her second skill is Come Hither. Mina drags multiple enemies with her scythe in a cone in front of her, greatly reducing their movement speed for 1 second.
  • Her ultimate is Dark Dominion. Mina unleashes a surge of dark power that deals damage and taunts enemies to attack her.

  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Mina goes down the ultimate dark path the moment Lorion decides to tamper with her and control her via many horrendous experiments, eventually being made a servant of Veera.
  • Dark Is Evil: She has dark abilities and is one of the bad guys. She had a tragic fall from grace, though.
  • I Shall Taunt You: Subverted. Her ultimate taunts her opponents to attack her, but considering her background, it's less insulting them and more like using her dark power to force her enemies to attack her.
  • It's Personal: Mina hates Lorion, but not due to having some standards on evil while Lorion proves himself to be one of the evilest beings in Athanor. It's because Mina knows that Lorion is the chief reason why she ends up in her miserable state as of current; it all started when Lorion decided to screw her up for his own dark purposes.
  • Mighty Glacier: Mina is famous for sudden burst damage despite being a tank; once her passive fills up, she can deal a big amount of damage in addition to being naturally tanky. Of course, the drawback is that she absolutely has no mobility on her own, though she can drag anyone near her onto her.
  • More than Mind Control: She is officially under Veera's control. However, she also has some free will in her mind, and she more or less agrees that she should wreak havoc on the world that destroyed her life.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She wears a very skin-tight armor, which also puts an emphasis on her nice body, not to mention really long hair in a ponytail.
  • Revenge: A lot of her quotes revolve around the idea that she will have revenge against the world, and considering her circumstances, it's hard to blame her. Similarly, her passive buffs her if she is hit, as if she is fighting back against whoever is attacking her, despite the fact that as a "tank/support" with a taunt, she is expected to take a lot of hits.
  • Sinister Scythe: Her weapon is a gigantic scythe. It also adds to her grimdark attitude.
  • Tragic Villain: She's just a normal girl who was born under unfortunate circumstances, but tried to make due as an innocent girl. Unfortunately, the Dark Mages wanted to own her, and after several experiments that she didn't ask for, which destroyed her, she was offered to Veera as a sacrifice, and thus Mina is now out for blood.

    Ormarr, the Frenzy
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_ormarr_350x441.jpg
"My blood tingles in anticipation!"
Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai (JP)
Faction: Unknown (Bloody Axe clan)
Honor of Kings counterpart: Zhong Wuyan

Member of a clan called the "Bloody Axe" clan. Ormarr dreamed to be its clan leader and has done his best to be the first to enter the battle and the last to exit it, earning him the nickname "The Frenzy". However, he's also plagued with foolish decisions like raiding an allied supply, so his clan was banished to the North, though his clan defended him for fighting for their glory. Eventually, as the Demon Army (presumably of Lokheim) prepared to strike, Ormarr volunteered to defend his clan, come what may, earning the respect of the people.

Ormarr is a Tank who excels at pinning down his opponents with considerable crowd control to allow his teammates to tear through them.

  • His passive is Gut Punch. Ormarr gets a random chance to stun enemies hit by his attacks as well as deal magic damage equal to a portion of his own max HP.
  • His first ability is Unstoppable. Ormarr charges forward, empowering his next basic attack to deal additional physical damage and knocking up enemies that he hits.
  • His second ability is Swagger. Ormarr smashes the ground to deal physical damage and slow enemies in an area. If at least one enemy hero is hit, Ormarr gains a stack, and casting Swagger with three stacks guarantees an activation of Gut Punch.
  • His ultimate Walking Tall. Ormarr swings his hammer in a circle repeatedly, dealing physical damage to enemies hit while restoring a percentage of his max HP for each enemy hero hit. Ormarr can be affected by movement impairing effects while casting Walking Tall, but the ability itself cannot be interrupted.

  • Blood Knight: He lives for battle only; if there's a battle, he's in first, and he'll be the last to withdraw.
  • Dual Wielding: A spiked hammer in one hand, an unusually large dagger (not long enough to be a sword) in the other.
  • Horny Vikings: He's the stereotypical marauding Viking, albeit with flaws in misplaced marauding.
  • Nerf: Visually, when compared to his Honor of Kings counterpart. Ormarr can stun, but his counterpart can turn people to stone.
  • Spin Attack: His ultimate is basically the obligatory "spin to win" skill permeating throughout the MOBA genre. Though with Ormarr's other passives, it means that if you get hit with it, there's a chance you don't escape due to the periodic stuns it inflicts.

    Taara, the War Hammer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_taara_350x441.jpg
"With great hammers, comes great responsibility!"
Voiced by: Yuko Kaida (JP)
Faction: Lokheim
Honor of Kings counterpart: Cheng Yaojin

Taara was the chieftain of a tribe of the indigenous people in the Iron Mountains. In addition to mining precious ore for Veda, the tribe was responsible for staving off Lokheim invasions, and Taara was leading the charge against the invasions. Eventually, a messenger from Thane of the Norman Kingdom arrived during a victory celebration, declaring that Taara would be granted the title of noble and her people would be free of the mining life. Unfortunately, the Iron Mountains area was overseen by Veda's Gildur, a greedy man who decided that the region was too vital for him. Gildur proceeded to block Thane's messenger from contacting the tribe further, and then Taara was declared a traitor and the taxes for her people were doubled. It was at this time that Veera offered her a place in Lokheim. Thanks to what happened, Taara was completely disillusioned with Veda and the Light and fully submitted herself to Lokheim. Enhanced with the frostfire of Lokheim, Taara now swings her hammer against the Veda faction that betrayed her people, especially Gildur's.

Taara is a Tank/Warrior hero who is at her best when her HP is low, during which a swing of her hammer can prove to be extremely deadly.

  • Her passive is Fighting Spirit. Taara gains attack damage that scales with how many HP she has lost. Casting skills will cost HP, but some of the HP cost will be restored over time.
  • Her first skill is Colossal Smash. Taara jumps forward and smashes her hammer to the ground, damaging and slowing nearby enemies. If she hits an enemy hero with a normal attack, the skill cooldown will be reduced by a second.
  • Her second skill is Whirlwind. Taara swings her hammer and hits all the enemies around her. Each enemy will be hit twice for the same damage.
  • Her ultimate is Steeled Focus. Taara gains movement speed and defense boosts while also rapidly regenerating a large amount of her HP over time.

  • Achilles' Heel: Due to her reliance on HP regeneration to keep a balance between 'low HP' and 'not dying', anti-heal items will cripple Taara greatly.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Taara is a willing servant of Lokheim (albeit a tragic one), whereas Cheng Yaojin is a much more jolly and good guy despite serving the alignment-wise ambiguous Wu Zetian.
  • Arch-Enemy: Gildur. Because he is the one responsible for Taara's misery due to his own greed, it's no surprise that Taara despises him and spends her time in Lokheim trying to bash him good.
  • Boring, but Practical: Taara's skills are generally pretty straightforward and not very fancy, as she's one of the older heroes. Few, however, can deny the effectiveness of a hero who plays like a Combat Sadomasochist, willingly entering danger zones just to begin bashing things to death because she is stronger at lower HP.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Except for her ultimate, all of her skills cost HP to use. This is actually a good thing for Taara. She wants to be low on HP to maximize her damage output.
  • Critical Status Buff: Good news! You have reduced Taara's HP to the point where she will die in just a few more hits! The bad news is, that's when any kind of blow from her hammer will start to hurt like hell. Moreover, her ultimate will make her regenerate like crazy; if you attack her further in that state, then she'll be constantly in the state of low HP and dealing more damage. Hope you have your anti-regeneration item ready!
  • Healing Factor: Steeled Focus gives her an incredible HP regeneration. This is extremely good when Taara is at low HP, which means the enemies will not be able to easily kill her when she ends up in a state where she's on low enough HP to wreak havoc while at the same time not ending up dead.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Taara was on the way to becoming a respectable citizen of Norman, but then Gildur got greedy and screwed her and her tribe over. Because of this, Taara pulls a Face–Heel Turn.
  • Samus Is a Girl: Downplayed. Looking at her art alone, you may be thinking that Taara is merely an imposing Black Knight guy. But when you actually play as her, her female (if a bit butch) voice is a giveaway that she's a girl. Her alternate skins completely remove the mystery and blatantly show that she's a woman.

    Thane, the Legendary Monarch
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/aov_thane_350x441.jpg
"Knights! To me!"
Voiced by: Satoshi Inomata (JP)
Faction: Norman Kingdom
Honor of Kings counterpart: Xiang Yu/Hegemon

The legendary King of the Norman Kingdom. Previously only a refugee fleeing from demons, Thane rose up and trained to defend mankind from demons, eventually leading them in a second battle against demons and prevailing despite the many friends that fell. As he was crowned as king, he used his charisma to unite many heroic humans under his banner and form the League of Humans, swearing to lead them to an era of peace, even maneuvering the political intrigue of the forces of Veda under Ilumia. He has gained many trusted allies this way, from his childhood friend Arthur to the demon hunter Valhein to the fist fighter Raz to the lady knight Astrid. He'll always lead the charge when the horn of war that threatens humankind is blown.

Thane is a Tank hero who charges right onto the battlefield, wreaking havoc and surviving while his allies take advantage of his charge and he can finish off the leftovers.

  • His passive is Royal Power. Thane takes less damage as his HP drops, and he also gains HP recovery.
  • His first skill is "Valiant Charge." Thane puts his shield forward and dashes, pushing enemies caught in his charge. At the end of his charge, Thane does an upper shield bash, knocking up enemies caught in it.
  • His second skill, Avalon's Fury, had Thane jump forward and then lands back stabbing his sword to the ground, causing area damage and causing enemies to be knocked upwards.
  • His ultimate is King's Glory. After a short charge delay, Thane slams his sword to the ground, causing huge true damage over a very wide area. He puts on an Iron Body state, shrugging off crowd control, throughout the charge so he cannot be interrupted.

  • Childhood Friends: He's friends with Okka Kingdom's prince Arthur; both of them forged an alliance between their kingdoms.
  • Expy: His design is heavily lifted from The Good King of Heroes of Newerth, Jeraziah. Additionally, both are also tanky, supportive heroes (Thane's magic prowess is more minor, though).
  • The Good King: He's the king of humans, and he strives to be as good as he can be to set an example for humans.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Yes, he's got the knightly look despite being king, and he's there to save the day by standing between you and harm's way. He's tough enough to take it.
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: He styles himself as a knight-like character, and his skills equally make use of both his sword and shield.
  • Magnetic Hero: He's gained the loyalty of many other human heroes thanks to being a good, charismatic guy. Valhein, Raz, and Astrid are some non-childhood friends that he won over.
  • Mythology Gag: His ultimate is named after one of the earlier translations of his game’s predecessor (King’s Glory instead of Honor of Kings).
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Thane is a king of men, and he's definitely not just sitting on his throne barking orders; he'll get to the front line, soak up damage, so his men can charge.
  • Stone Wall: Thane might not do much damage, and even his highly damaging ultimate can't be spammed willy-nilly. But he's one of the toughest heroes to take down in the game, and he's highly disruptive.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Thane and the Lokheim hero Arduin go way back as friends. An argument and disagreement later, Thane would never see Arduin again except for that chunk of demonic armor where his spirit resided and is now trying to fight off the humanity he is protecting.

    Toro, the Bull King

"Mess with the bull, you get the sharp, pointy horns!"
Voiced by:
Faction: Afata
Honor of Kings counterpart: Lian Po/Gandan Bastion

A minotaur creature who protects Afata under the command of Tel'Annas. Brutish and powerful, he is ready to wreck a lot of things that threaten the forest. Some say that he may be related to the Monkey King that might be seen in the skies of Veda, and that he's somehow hostile to him, but no one knew why he suddenly stationed himself in Afata.

Toro is a tough Tank/Support hero that charges into the fray like a mad bull and keeps his enemy in place with his brute strength and tough hide.

  • His passive is Tough Hide. If Toro uses an ability, he shrugs off all crowd controls and also gains damage reduction.
  • His first skill is Bull Rush. Toro charges forward with horns up front. He causes physical damage and knocks up those in his way. If he hits an enemy during his charge, then he gains a shield.
  • His second skill is Battlecry. Toro charges up, gains a shield, and then roars, damaging and slowing those caught in the roar.
  • His ultimate is Cracked Earth. Toro jumps to a location and starts smashing the ground three times, damaging enemies in each smash. The first two slow enemies, while the last one knocks them up. Toro can cancel this skill to any other of his skills mid-way.

  • Boisterous Bruiser: His voice set is rather archaic (as in, old and out-of-date with a plethora of slangs rather than speaking in an old-fashioned manner). But from what's given, generally speaking, Toro is a big, boisterous, fight-happy minotaur who is more than eager to crush his foes while grinning happily.
  • Dub Name Change: Like Zanis/Zhao Yun, Toro is listed as "Gyuumaou" in the Japanese dub, which means he's literally the Bull Demon King Niu Mowang himself (unfortunately, he isn't the counterpart of Niu Mo from Honor of Kings himself).
  • Everyone Has Standards: Implied. Toro is pissed at Wukong and wants to smack him in the face. Since Wukong is associated with Veda, their natural enemy would be the abyssal demons of Lokheim. Toro wants nothing to do with them, so he instead settles in Afata.
  • Our Minotaurs Are Different: Toro is a forest-dwelling minotaur, not one who lives in caverns, labyrinths, or mountains. Aside from that, he exhibits the typical traits of minotaurs.
  • Stone Wall: Toro is basically the indestructible wall that walks and disrupts the enemy by existing and being very hard to kill unless extremely concentrated.
  • Temporary Online Content: For some reason, certain servers did not make Toro permanent, only making him available for purchase at certain events. As a result, many players in that region are stuck with seeing Toro on the Heroes list but being unable to acquire him through traditional means.
  • We Used to Be Friends: He used to be "bros" with Wukong, just like in "Journey to the West." But then, Wukong's latter actions (during or after his pilgrimage) alienated him so much that he now wants to settle the score.

    Wiro, 212 Warrior

"Muridnya sableng, gurunya gendeng!"Translation

Faction: Unknown (came from somewhere in Indonesia)
Honor of Kings counterpart: Su Lie

During his infancy, Wiro Saksana was almost killed by the evil martial artist Mahesa Birawa, who killed his parents shortly before. He was saved, raised, and trained in martial arts by Mahesa's master, Sinto Gendeng. Her crazy antics eventually rubbed off on him, and he would eventually become known as Wiro Sableng (Crazy Wiro), who wandered the Earth (mostly Indonesia), improving his martial arts, defeating evil wherever he went, and riling them up with his crazy personality. For some reason, Wiro stumbled onto Athanor and noticed that wherever he went, problems and evil would still lurk, and as usual, it's still his calling to squash them. Armed with his sacred axe, "Kapak Naga Geni 212" and easily recognized with the 212 mark on his chest, Wiro is ready to kick evil's ass and drive them crazy.

Wiro is a Tank/Warrior hero who gets into his enemies' ranks and wreaks havoc there without even caring about dying, for he can come back to life once.

  • His passive is 212 Pinnacle. Wiro gets greater defense and magic defense bonuses when he levels up. If his HP drops to zero, instead of dying, he restores 60% of his HP and channels for 4.5 seconds, becoming immobilized and gaining crowd control immunity. At the end of the channeling, Wiro gets back up, roars, and deals damage to enemies surrounding him, while gaining attack speed and movement speed. During the channeling, there are three insignias surrounding him that his allies can touch and restore their and Wiro's HP. If all three insignias are touched, Wiro instantly ends his channeling and gets back up.
  • His first skill is 212 Pummel. Wiro buffs his next three attacks: the first two deal increased damage, and the third one knocks surrounding enemies to the air. All of them scale with his HP.
  • His second skill is Tornado Fist. Wiro charges forward with his fist enlarged by ki power and pushes enemies forward; if they hit a wall, they take extra damage and are stunned for a second. Wiro can also deal damage to buildings this way.
  • His ultimate is Sunray Fist. Wiro charges up, and a growing circle appears surrounding him. He can then release his inner power any time to deal massive damage and knock up enemies within the circle, which grows larger the longer he charges. If he cancels his skill or is interrupted by crowd control, the cooldown will be drastically reduced, so he can try again in a short time.

  • Auto-Revive: If you kill him once, unless you take extra efforts to beat him down again, Wiro will just come back instantly as if nothing happened.
  • Ax-Crazy: 'Sableng' is Indonesian for 'Crazy'. And with a name like Wiro Sableng...
  • Bilingual Bonus: He speaks Bahasa Indonesia, though he also has an English voice actor, should you set the game's voice language to English.
  • Charged Attack: Delaying the activation of Sunray Fist means Wiro can cover more areas, and the burst of power deals more damage and knocks up even higher. It's a strategy for Wiro players to hide in the bush, charge up their ult, and when the enemy least expected it, he pops up and does a fully charged Sunray Fist.
  • Mythology Gag: One of his quotes, "Aku melangkah menyusuri dunia!"Translation , is taken straight from the lyrics of the theme song of his own TV series that aired during The '90s.
  • The Power of Friendship: Weaponized. When 212 Pinnacle is in effect, up to three friends can walk through the marks left by Wiro. He and his friend gain more health to withstand more attacks and get active again with more health.
  • Stone Wall: Wiro isn't the type to quickly kill his enemies, but he's a tough guy who will continuously disrupt his enemies' ranks and is particularly hard to kill when he's assisted by others. It also translates well to his original fighting style from the novel: He's driving his opponents insane by being extremely tough and annoying them all the time with his disruption; we can easily assume that he's verbally taunting his enemies mid-battle as they struggle to bring him down.

    Xeniel, the Immaculate

"The dominion of the Light cannot be stopped!"
Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi (JP)
Faction: Veda
Honor of Kings counterpart: Liu Bang

A pious and muscular angel of the Holy Hall of Veda. He was invited to join the ranks of Veda by none other than Ilumia herself, and Xeniel accepted, becoming the head of the clergy. Despite his powerful position, Xeniel remained humble. Yet, his devotion is unparalleled, so Ilumia granted him six wings to represent light and power. Xeniel would use those wings wisely during an invasion of Lokheim where even Ilumia fell into an ambush of Lokheim, with Xeniel using the wings to arrive in time, saving her and allowing ninjas of the Mist Island aligned with Veda to thwart the demons. For his deeds, Xeniel is promoted to Commander of the Holy Hall, and his name is spread throughout the continent, but he still remains the same humble angel.

Xeniel is a Tank/Support hero with almost global presence, arriving instantly from one place to another while providing protection to his allies.

  • His passive is Holy Brand. Xeniel converts a portion of his maximum HP into extra damage and slows his target on his normal attack. This passive has a cooldown after being unleashed.
  • His first skill is Divine Protection. Xeniel creates a barrier around him that absorbs damage. After a few seconds, Xeniel can re-activate the skill to make the barrier explode, dealing damage and slowing nearby enemies. If the barrier is destroyed by the enemy, the offensive effect will still be unleashed, and when the barrier explodes, his passive's cooldown is reset.
  • His second skill is Malleus. Xeniel leaps and smashes his hammer to the ground, dealing damage and stunning enemies caught in the impact.
  • His ultimate is Angelic Splendor. Xeniel chooses any allied hero and grants them damage reduction and a Divine Protection. He then flies right to said hero and, after a delay, crashes down next to the hero while healing allied heroes nearby. On landing, Xeniel also gains temporary movement speed.

  • Celestial Paragons and Archangels: Downplayed. Xeniel holds a measure of authority in Veda as a primary angel. However, Lauriel outranks him based on seniority, and she's not the one whom he answers to directly.
  • Dynamic Entry: Xeniel's ultimate in a nutshell. If you're on a losing battle, Xeniel can choose you, and if you manage to survive, he'll instantly crash into the battlefield, damaging the enemy and aiding you at once.
  • Hidden Buxom: A rare male example. That massive armor makes it kind of difficult to imagine what Xeniel looks like beneath it. Sources say that he's actually very muscular.
  • Humble Hero: Despite his high position and great favor from Ilumia, Xeniel remains a humble guy.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Downplayed. Xeniel is generally affable and nice. However, his battle quotes imply that he's a bit too excited about purging the heretics that stand against Veda, showing a not-very-nice and zealous side.
  • Light Is Good: One of the few genuinely good members of Veda. Like Lauriel, Xeniel is dedicated to the protection of his men, and he generally doesn't flaunt his status.
  • Our Angels Are Different: Xeniel is an angel, but unlike Lauriel, he's decked in armor, and his wings are made of energy instead of traditional feathers. He's also decidedly more supportive than offensive.
  • Stone Wall: Sure, he might not have the best damage output. But he's extremely tough to take down due to his natural tankiness and ability to generate shield, as well as how he's more likely to buy HP-increasing items to enhance his passive.
