Main Characters

     Henry the Gecko
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/henry_the_lizard_in_henry27s_amazing_animals.jpg
Excuse me, but that's amazing!
Voiced by: Eric Meyers
The titular character of the show. He is a green gecko with purple spots.
  • Audience Surrogate: Serves as this to the younger audience, asking questions that allows the narrator to inform both him and the viewer. Some of his questions are as silly as ones a kid would ask, such as asking why animals don't just go the supermarket.
  • Big Eater: Has a huge appetite for things like pizza and chocolate, which the narrator is quick to poke fun at him for.
  • Catchphrase: "Excuse me, but that's amazing!" in response to a particularly cool animal fact.
    • "Rats!" in repsonse to his reports getting trashed by the narrator.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Emphasized in his "special reports", where he usually gets the facts completely wrong and has to be corrected by the narrator.
  • Lovable Lizard: Naturally.
  • Miles Gloriosus: Henry tends to overestimate his abilities/smarts, which lands him in trouble. Emphasised in Armored Animals where his taunting a rhino leads to him getting tossed through the air for his trouble.
  • New Jobs As The Plot Demands: In later seasons, Henry went through a lot of different jobs, including a chef in Animal Appetites, a mountaineer guide in Mountain Animals and so on.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Henry tends to be so quite a lot, a notable example being an entire museum dedicated to him in Extinct Animals. Henry seems to have a bit of a reason for this, however.
Henry: Are you kidding? What if us lizards become extinct, too? Ever since the dinosaurs went, we've been kinda sensitive about that sort of stuff!
  • Squeamish About Slaughter: Downplayed. Henry often gets upset by some of the harsher facts of nature, especially where predators and prey are concerned. Even so, both he and the narrator understand that the predators aren't doing it for fun and have to do what they do to live.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: The Wise Guy to the narrator's Straight Man. As he himself puts it, "I do the jokes around here!"
  • Trademark Favourite Food: Pizza.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Has an intense fear/disgust towards spiders that reoccurs through the series. Scary Animals firmly estabishes him as an arachnophobe.

     Narrator
Voiced by: Tom Clarke-Hill in the US Dub, Nigel Greaves in the UK dub.

The narrator of the show, and one of the main characters.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Wastes no time in marking sarcastic remarks at Henry's expense.
  • The Faceless: Akin to other Narrators, even those that communicate with other show characters, the Narrator is never seen in person. There are some dubious 'close spots' though -
    • In Animals Around the World, Henry is reading through a picture album, and the narrator asks Henry if he has a photo of him [the narrator] in there. Henry is sure, but he thinks he got his thumb in it, to the narrator's disgruntlement.
    • In Mountain Animals, Henry's altitude sickness leads him to see the Narrator as a pink dinosaur with yellow spots.
  • Only Sane Man: Is quick to point out where Henry is wrong or if his plans won't work.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: The Straight Man to Henry's Wise Guy.

Minor/Supporting Characters

A horse that had a main role in Animal Partners. He also made a cameo appearance in Animals Around the World, as one of the guests to Henry's party.
     Goody (Collie)
A collie that had a main role in Animal Helpers. After Henry hears about Goody likely being the winner of the most helpful animal of the year award, with prizes of a parade and pizza feed, Henry starts to be helpful to snag the award.—-
