    open/close all folders
    In General
  • The Chosen Many: The miko herself is not enough to perform the Amatsukami summoning ceremony. The presence of the chosen ones among the Men of Tsukuyomi is also necessary.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Not counting Inaba whose gender is unclear, the heroine is the only female in the group.
  • True Companions
  • Unlockable Content: The danshi part of the traveling company cannot be summoned in their base forms and can only be obtained after finishing the arcs they are introduced in. After which, they can be bought from the store for a certain amount of tsuki no kirameki tokens.

    The Heroine/Amamiya Akari
The Player Character, an ordinary Japanese woman (and the eldest of the Amamiya family in the manga) who gets teleported into Hinomoto, is chosen to wield the power of the Miko of the Sun and must go on an adventure to find five chosen men in order to perform a ceremony to bring back Amatsukami and make the sun rise again.

Live-acted by: Keishi Hagio (stage play, 2020), Mizuki Chiba (stage play, 2021)
Rarity (Base): Medium
Element (Base): Fire
A Baku native, but has immigrated to Miyabi and works there as a Kebi'ishi officer. He appears as an irritable and stubborn guy, and is a close friend of Seimei.

Attained after completing the tutorial.

  • Child Hater: He admits to being one himself.
  • Cowboy Cop: Isn't behind Kiyomori in terms of being a tough Kebi'ishi officer.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Being Seimei's childhood friend, he doesn't take too well to his revealing his Evil All Along nature and turning his back on the company.
  • Home Field Advantage: His is a special case: he is native to Baku and thus his native buff works there, but is obtained in Miyabi, as opposed to the rest of the company who are obtained in their countries of origin.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He constantly butts heads with Inaba, but they're still friends nonetheless.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: He makes the Manly half of the duo with his friend Seimei being the Sensitive. He's also this to Katsura to a lesser extent.
  • Starter Mon: He is given after clearing the introduction arc.
  • Tsundere: Type A. For all his irritability, he still shows a gentle and friendly side and engages in "I ain't doing this for you or anything"-type Suspiciously Specific Denial on a more than incidental basis. This is commented on many times by more than one character.
  • Western Zodiac: Libra (September 27).
    Mori Ranmaru

Live-acted by: Yūsaku Satō (stage play)
Rarity (Base): Medium
Element (Base): Dark
A sweet-natured and timid teenage boy, Nobunaga's overly loyal vassal who seems dependent on his lord at first, but eventually gains a level of badass, defends Nobunaga from being attacked by a misunderstanding angry mob and eventually joins the company.

Attained after completing Ikusa arc.

  • Ambiguously Bi: He is stated to be Nobunaga's koshō 小姓, a word that is often used to mean the receiving partner in a shudō relationship, but he is never shown to actually be in a romantic or sexual relationship with his lord.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: His behavior, from years of serving as Nobunaga's personal retainer, is more typically feminine than one would expect. This also makes him contrast with Nobunaga and his masculinity.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: In his default Yin form, he wears the same uniform as other members of Nobunaga's army but lacks the hat. He also wears a cravat similar to Hanbē, but his is tucked in.
  • Real Men Cook: He prepares food for Nobunaga most of the time, and he is noted on many occasions to be a pretty good cook. He's also often responsible for calling out Mitsuhide's terrible cooking decisions.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: A pink-haired boy with a somewhat adorable personality.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He starts out as a timid boy who is overly dependent on his lord, but later, with some encouragement from the company, gets a Moment of Awesome delivering a speech defending Nobunaga from an angry mob about to attack him over a misunderstanding. He later chooses to leave his master to join the company and fulfill his mission as part of The Chosen Many.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Miso soup.
  • Undying Loyalty: Towards Nobunaga. He refuses to join the company at first for not wanting to leave his lord until he learns to stop being dependent and eventually leaves to join the heroes.
  • Western Zodiac: Cuspal Gemini/Cancer (June 21).
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: Both Awakened Ōse outfits. While the Yin form's Chinese-like robes can be construed as unisex, the Yang form is obviously a female waitress uniform.
    Shōtoku-taishi

Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka
Live-acted by: Masahiro Sugie (stage play)
Rarity (Base): Medium
Element (Base): Water
An aloof and overly strict Inishie royal who is such a big Workaholic that he sometimes disregards his own well-being. He has the gift of being able to listen to ten people speaking at the same time and still make out every word.

Attained after completing Inishie arc.

  • Does Not Like Spam: Red bean paste.
  • His Name Really Is "Barkeep": Either his name really is Prince, or other characters keep assuming "Taishi" is his first name.
  • Mean Boss: Heaven bless you if you happen to work for him. His underlings, especially Imoko, don't enjoy his strict overworking of everyone involved in any given project, but are too afraid to complain lest they piss him off.
  • Royal Brat: A quite irritable and unapproachable royal at first until he becomes a Defrosting Ice King. He's still a raging Workaholic though.
  • Stoic Spectacles: Combine his specs with his cold and pretty hostile personality and you get this.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Milk nabe.
  • Western Zodiac: Aquarius (February 7). He isn't assigned the element associated with the sign (Air) but the one that is in line with its image (Water). He also fits the "aloof" trait.
  • Workaholic: He neither gives himself nor his workers a break when the bridge construction project is being worked on. It comes back to bite him in the ass when he gets sick. Likewise, in his New Year story, he expresses no desire to take a break from his work despite it being a holiday. His Beleaguered Assistant Imoko more than once expresses just how exhausting it is working for him.
    Natsume Sōseki

Live-acted by: Fūta Sunaga (stage play)
Rarity (Base): Medium
Element (Base): Light
An Utsutsu native, a Cloudcuckoolander writer with a thing for cats. He believes literature should reflect people's feelings whether they're good or bad, and faces opposition from the Moral Guardians who routinely harass writers who deal with dark themes.

Attained after completing Utsutsu arc.

  • Catchphrase: Yes, we get it, you want to eat fried chicken at every opportunity.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: A successful writer, yet prone to saying incredibly stupid things. Even when he gets a serious moment talking about the Moral Guardians running amok in the Utsutsu country, he ruins it by saying he needs to rescue his beloved cat.
  • Curtains Match the Window: He has blond hair and gold eyes.
  • Cuteness Proximity: He fawns over Inaba because he thinks it a cat, much to its annoyance.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Bread.
  • Dumb Blonde: Blond? Check. Cloudcuckoolander? Check.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Very much. He owns a house full of cats, likes Inaba because he thinks it a cat and seems to favor his cats over human interaction. This puts him in rivalry with Tsunayoshi, who loves dogs.
  • Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant: For all his airheadedness – or rather because of his airheadedness – he's said and done some truly terrifying things such as offering himself as food because he supposes he might be of use that way.
  • Real Men Cook: After the company rescues his cat, he returns the favor by whipping up a delicious Western meal whose mere description reaches Food Porn levels.
Sōseki: You're not eating? We're having seasonal vegetable cream soup for appetizer and beef steamed with wine for the main course!
  • Shout-Out: A rather brilliant one… while he's pretending to be a cat.
Sōseki: I Am a Cat! Just kidding!
  • Too Dumb to Live: He nearly threatens his life when he tries to fly from the roof like a bird despite the heroine's warnings. Luckily enough, his stomach prevents him from doing so.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Fried chicken. It's made very clear in the narrative.
Sōseki: Aren't birds pretty? They fly so gracefully… Ah, I wanna eat fried chicken!
  • The Unfavorite: He reveals that he was an unwanted child, which makes his greatest goal in life to be a useful human being in any way possible including being eaten.
  • Western Zodiac: Aquarius (February 9). Coincidentally, this sign is also a staple of Cloudcuckoolanders.
    Tokugawa Tsunayoshi

Voiced by: Yuki Ono
Live-acted by: Ryō Tachibana (stage play)
Rarity (Base): Medium

The second youngest of the Tokugawa siblings, a friendly and easygoing man who enjoys going out on his own. He also loves dogs and owns a pet dog called Shishimaru.

Attained after completing Kō arc.

Abe no Seimei (Walking Spoiler alert)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/detail_tachie_1abeno.png

Live-acted by: Seiji Fukuyama (stage play)
Rarity (Base): Very High
Element (Base): Dark
Shinsaku's childhood friend, a skilled onmyōji who seems to be hiding a secret behind his smile and gentle mannerisms, the secret being that he's the company's Big Bad Friend who works for the Evil God Susano'o as the Priest of the Sea.

Attained after completing the second Miyabi arc.

All spoilers are left unmarked. Proceed with caution.

  • Abe no Seimei
  • Badass Longcoat: The elaborate uchikake he wears over his clothes.
  • Big Bad Friend: Prior to the Inoridono arc finale, he is a genuinely good friend to the rest of the company.
  • Cast Herd: "Onmyōji". He is by far the sole member of this group.
  • The Chosen One: Double Subverted; he isn't part of the group of five men the Miko has to gather, which makes him appear as just a tagalong for most of the story… until after the failed ceremony and his disappearance. Then, Ōkuninushi reveals that he is the Priest of the Sea, one of the three great spirit mediums, and that his presence is necessary to perform the ceremony a second time. Therefore, he really is a Chosen One after all.
  • Despair Event Horizon: He's a cynical guy to begin with, but finally hits this after his and Shinsaku's mentor was murdered.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Shishitō peppers.
  • Evil All Along: At the tail end of the Inoridono arc, it is revealed he works for Susanoo-no-mikoto and has been tagging along on the adventure just so he can use the Miko's power to summon him and further his goal of utter destruction.
  • Formal Characters Use Keigo: He speaks in this all the time, which makes him a Soft-Spoken Sadist once his evil nature is revealed.
  • Freudian Excuse: He was brought up by an old man who preached the importance of faith only to see him betrayed and murdered in cold blood by Ungrateful Townsfolk. As a result, he no longer sees the point of faith or holds any sympathy for humanity, seeking to annihilate it.
  • Humans Are Bastards: Firmly holds this belief after seeing his father figure brutally murdered and is determined to take revenge on the entire human race.
  • Miko: Technically not one gender-wise, but Ōkuninushi refers to the three great spirit mediums as "the three miko".
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Has been on one against the entire world.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: This holds doubly true with his being a bad guy.
  • Sixth Ranger Traitor: Though introduced earlier in the story than most, he still isn't part of the chosen men, still tags along with them on their journey, and still betrays them all.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: Sensitive to Shinsaku's Manly. Behavior aside, he obviously takes his father figure's death much worse than Shinsaku does.
  • Soft-Spoken Sadist: A gentle-voiced, keigo-speaking villain.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Inarizushi, fried tofu pouches stuffed with sushi rice.
  • Walking Spoiler: The fact he is Evil All Along is enough to warrant him this title.
  • Western Zodiac: Pisces (February 21) and is mysterious.
    Inaba
Voiced by: Kenji Akabane
The Team Pet rabbit of the main crew and familiar of Ōkuninushi, whose role is mainly to provide information on gameplay to the players and comic relief. It is also the Priest of the Moon, the spirit medium of Tsukuyomi and one of the three spirit mediums for the great deities.
  • Big Eater: A Running Gag in the story seems to be that the first thing it says when invited to stay over at a new country is that it's going to have something to eat. Shinsaku is annoyed big time.
  • Exposition Fairy: It acts as the instructor to the basics of the game to new players.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Forgot that it is the Priest of the Moon. Both Ōkuninushi and Taishi call it out on this.
  • I Am Not Weasel: Towards Sōseki, who keeps mistaking it for a cat. This isn't helped by Shinsaku also chiming in and calling it "Inyaba" just to spite it.
  • Moon Rabbit: In case the moon pendant it wears and the moon deity it works for doesn't mean anything to you.
  • Team Pet
  • Vocal Dissonance: It sounds like a teenage boy, which is a lot deeper that what you'd expect a cute little rabbit would sound.
