Solarhood
(also known as SonElise Askblog) is a Sonic/Elise themed Ask Blog on Tumblr.
It is set is an AU of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) where Sonic and Elise are hiding out together. The two are travelling the planet together, while Elise is assumed dead by her home country. Most of the posts are loosely tied together and there's not much of an overarching plot.
This blog provides examples of:
- Adaptational Gender Identity: It's offhandedly depicted that Sonic (who was presumably a cis man in canon) is trans when he suffers from period cramps.
- Alternate Universe Fic: Sonic and Elise ran off together after the festival in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
- Age Lift: Within the games, Sonic is fifteen while Elise has a Vague Age implied to be around Sonic's. In the blog, Both are eighteen.
- Bodyguard Crush: The plot of the blog revolves around Sonic acting as Elise's temporary bodyguard. Along the way, they fall in love.
- Conditioned to Accept Horror: After getting spooked by a video game while Elise doesn't even flinch, Sonic questions why Elise isn't frightened. She happily says that she's become immune to all emotions that involve tears due to her upbringing.
- Faking the Dead: After escaping Eggman for the second time, Elise asks Sonic to tell everyone that she died in the explosion, fearing the worst otherwise.
- Hates Baths: Sonic hates baths because he has a fear of even shallow depths of water.
- Interspecies Romance: Sonic, a Funny Animal hedgehog, and Elise, a human, are a couple.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Sonic was actively worried about Amy's reaction to him and Elise dating, but finds that she's cool with it; she still likes him but admits Elise won him over fair and square, and if he's happy, Amy is completely willing to support them.
- King Incognito: Duchess Elise ran off with Sonic the Hedgehog for protection. She is living as a civilian and is assumed dead by her country.
- Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh, My!: In Sonic's world, humans co-exist with Funny Animals.
- Original Character: There are occasional appearances by Elise's tutor M.J., who was created for the blog.
- Queer Establishing Moment: It's offhandedly established that Sonic is a trans man when it's shown he suffers from period cramps.
- Secret-Keeper: Elise being alive and her dating Sonic are kept secret from everyone, the exceptions being Tails, Amy, Knuckles, and M.J. (they all knew who Elise was off the bat and were told about the relationship later).
- Secret Secret-Keeper: Unbeknownst to Sonic and Elise, Rouge and Shadow found out about the two and observe them from a distance.
- Unable to Cry: Elise was raised not to cry or else an ancient evil would be released, so she instead expresses herself in other ways. Even when a Magic Anon temporarily grants her the ability to cry without consequence, she can't actually bring herself to do so.
