Single Parents Night
(also called Single Parents Night AU) is a Sonic the Hedgehog Tumblr art blog. It's written by Corvidroses and drawn by Bulletproofpillwpet.
It takes places in an Alternate Universe where various Sonic characters are the adopted parents of various other characters. Sonic is Tails' father, Amy is Cream's mother, Knuckles is Silver's father, Blaze is Marine's mother, Shadow is Maria's father, and Rouge is Omega's mother. Together, they all meet up at a group for single parents.
The title comes from the intro post. The parents come together on Single Parents Night to talk and meet other single parents.
Single Parents Night contains examples of:
- Adaptational Modesty: The normally underdressed guys all wear clothes in the AU.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: Both Shadow and Omega were given this treatment. Omega isn't as much of a jerkass (at worst, he expresses annoyance toward Rouge referring him as her offspring) and is generally more polite and less violent. Shadow meanwhile is more introverted yet makes more of an effort to be friendly compare to his game counterpart, though its speculated that Shadow's time being a dad has mellowed him out considerably.
- Adaptation Species Change: Subverted with Maria. She is a hedgehog, not a human. This is because she's not the original Maria but a clone of sorts.
- Age Lift:
- Characters who are age-lifted: Sonic went from 15 to 21, Blaze went from 14 to 21, Knuckles went from 16 to 22, and Shadow is (biologically?) 21, Amy went from 12 to 20, and Rouge went from 19 to 23.
- Characters who are decreased in age: Tails went from 8 to 2, Marine went from 7 to 2, Silver went from 14 to 5, and Cream went from 6 years old to 6 months old.
- Alice Allusion: Art for Halloween has blonde, blue-eyed Maria dressing up like Alice.
- Alternate Universe Fic: The characters' ages are changed, they don't all know each other, and some are related to others.
- Dead Guy Junior: Shadow's daughter Maria is named after Maria Robotnik.
- Do Not Call Me "Paul":
- Tails doesn't like being called "Miles".
- Sonic hates his real name, but his actual name is never stated. It's presumably "Ogilvie", as it is in Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics) (though some fans use his middle name "Maurice" as his first name).
- Fully-Dressed Cartoon Animal: All the characters are completely dressed.
- Happily Adopted: Everyone, except Omega to a degree (Rouge says he's going through an angsty teenager phase).
- Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh, My!: The Funny Animal characters live amongst humans.
- Parental Abandonment:
- Cream's mother Vanilla died, leaving her in the custody of her god-mother Amy. Her other parent, Vanilla's unnamed wife, died prior to Cream's birth.
- Blaze found Marine abandoned in a bucket when she was a baby.
- Sonic found Tails abandoned at Chemical Plant Zone. He's still looking for his parents.
- Patchwork Fic: Single Parents Night is mainly based off game canon but uses elements from other continuities as well. For example, it also takes from Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics) (Sonic having an Embarrassing First Name and being a Freedom Fighter), Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (Tails hating being called "Miles"), Sonic Underground (Sonic being siblings with Sonia and Manic), and Shadow having a partner named Topaz (Sonic X). Robotization exists and an incident involving it killed Vanilla's wife.
- Shrinking Violet: Tails is a shy kid.
- Soap Opera Disease: Vanilla's health took a turn for the worse shortly after her wife died.
- Teen Pregnancy: Played with. Several of the characters became teen parents, but through adoption rather than pregnancy.
- Related in the Adaptation: Characters who are previously unrelated are now related. For example, Sonic is Tails' dad/guardian instead of his older brother figure (though he still calls himself Tails' brother).
