Tropes in Neo World Program Monitor include:

  • Adaptational Backstory Change:
    • Akane's backstory is changed regarding her family situation. In canon, she mentioned that she would constantly change parents. Here, she has a scumbag father and a layback mother who have an open relationship and 8 younger siblings.
    • Like in the games, Chiaki is just an AI only she's not based on anyone in real life but instead is based on various people Chihiro knew in life and is taking the place of the actual Ultimate Gamer of Class 77-B, Nagi Nanami.
    • Chisa, Juzo and Kyosuke's reason to investigate Hope's Peak Academy is different from canon: their friend, who also happen to be Juzo's childhood friend, was a Reserve Course Student who disappeared, and they want to investigate what happen with her.
  • Author Appeal: The moderator has made references to various bits of media they enjoy.
  • Bland-Name Product: Due to being Danganronpa, certain products do reference - such as Nagi making video game references.
    • Also ZigZagged when Twitter, Youtube and other websites do get mentioned by the characters in-universe.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Tragedy still happens, and the world is ruined, but the cast is working to recover and unlike Chiaki, they get to reunite with Nagi.
  • Cast Full of Gay: There are several characters that are on the LGBTQ+ spectrum.
  • Character Death: As this takes place after the Tragedy, a lot of characters have died during the tragedy.
  • Connected All Along: It reveals in Harumi's short story that Nagi was born due to Utsuro's Divine Luck and by all accounts is connected to the Voids and Akane. However, Nagi herself is not aware of it before the tragedy.
  • Darker and Edgier: As this is Danganronpa - the story does get pretty dark and even gets into themes that can trigger people. Such themes include suicide, rape, self-harm, mutilation, limb loss, homophobia, child abuse, incest, ableism, scars, sexual assault, sexism and other dark subject matters.
  • Depopulation Bomb: Momoko Takakuwa, the 13th Future Foundation Head has mentioned that the Tragedy led to half of Japan getting wiped out.
  • Everyone Went to School Together: A few parents of the students of Class 77, among others, had attended Hope's Peak at some point in their life.
    • Class 49 had Shinji Kasai, Tenmei and Harumi Nanami (the latter in the Reserve Course and Nagi's parents), Hitoshi Koizumi (Mahiru's dad), Kyoka Mioda (Ibuki's mom) and Emina Nijiue (Iroha's Mom) and Shikamaru Shingetsu who was in the Reserve Course but got into Hope's Peak as the Ultimate Surgeon (Nagisa's father).
    • Class 51 had Noriaki Hinata (Hiroshi Hinata's late older brother and Hajime's Uncle), Akira Esumi (Masa's dad) and Mai Shingetsu (Nagisa's mom)
    • Class 56 had Kokoro Mitsume (Mikako's mom), Kimika and Maurice Kimura (Tomoe's parents), Maiko Saionji (Hiyoko's mom), Hiroshi Hinata (Hajime's dad who's in the Reserve Course) and Reiko Kobayashi (Eito's mom who was also in the Reserve Course but died from the Kamukura Project).
  • Faking the Dead: Nagi Nanami was believed to dead and her death was the cause of the Ultimate Despair to become the way they are. However, it is later revealed she survived Junko's attack at the cost of her legs
  • Feminist Fantasy: A lot of female characters have their own independent roles from their male counterparts and while some do have romance, their journey is far more important than anything related to it.
  • Fix Fic: Mostly fixing the events of Danganronpa 3 to flow better with the story.
  • Human Traffickers: There are several groups still running around. Nagi reveals this information after Kojikoji Hanamura spoke about needing to watch themselves when they get to Jabberwock Island which surprised Teruteru hearing this.
  • Parental Issues: Many members of Class 77-B have issues with their parents, which Junko used against them to turn them into Ultimate Despair.
  • Parental Obliviousness: Subverted. In Tenmei's short story, he realized that something was happening at Hope's Peak, and something was wrong with his daughter, Nagi, since she tends to tell him when something is wrong but her reason for keeping quiet was that the school forced her to keep quiet.
  • Polyamory: In order to repopulate, Japan is working a law to make polyamory legal.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Peko and Mikan are revealed to be half-sisters, with them sharing the same father. Both are somewhat upset about it as they had craved affection for years.
  • So Proud of You: After Nagi explains her reasons for keeping quiet about Hajime being Izuru and the Despairs, her parents did talk about it and were proud of their daughter in spite of everything.
