Aqours

     Group Singles
  • Aqours starts off strong with the release of their first single:
  • The second single is a favorite as well, especially the B-sides:
  • "Aozora Jumping Heart", the first season opening, continues Love Live's awesome openings and at the same time, introduces Aqours' music as distinctly different from their predecessors with its much more energetic style.
  • "Yume Kataru yori Yume Utaou", the first season ending, is an emotionally uplifting song.
  • "Sunshine Pikkapika Ondo", the B-Side to "Yume Kataru yori Yume Utaou", is a song based on traditional Japanese folk music. Everyone's solo parts are amazing, especially Aina's (Mari) as she shows her folk singing talent.
  • "Daisuki dattara Daijoubu!", the first song Aqours sang in the anime, is an anthem for all aspiring people, not just school idols, to pursue their passion.
  • "Mijuku DREAMER" is the first song in the anime sung by all 9 members of Aqours and is incredibly meaningful in light of the Third Year drama. Its brilliant chorales make it of Aqours' most outstanding songs that debuted in the anime.
  • "Omoi yo Hitotsu ni Nare" inspires spirits and feelings by being Riko's (and by extension, Rikako's) piano recital theme, but also doesn't fail to portray Aqours' signature energetic and upbeat feel, especially near the chorus. And if you thought the anime cut was good, the full version makes it even better, veering off in various different directions more beautiful and touching than the first verse, particularly the You Are Not Alone section near the end. "Omoi yo Hitotsu ni Nare Riko's Piano Sonata" from the Season 2 OST is even more inspirational than the original.
  • "MIRAI TICKET" generates a lot of hype. The First Live version is even better as Aqours recreates the same heartwarming moment in the anime to become a real life epic moment.
  • "HAPPY PARTY TRAIN" is a warm, uplifting piece with Kanan in the center position.
  • Listening to "SKY JOURNEY", the B-side to "HAPPY PARTY TRAIN" really makes you feel like you're actually in flight.
  • "Mirai no Bokura wa Shitteru yo" has a heavier feel than all of the previous openings. The inspirational lyrics partnered with the rocking melody are a perfect fit for the drama-filled Season 2.
  • "Kimi no Hitomi o Meguru Bouken" is an underrated gem with its amazing vocals and catchy beat.
  • "Yuuki wa doko ni? Kimi no Mune ni!", the second season ED, sings about having the courage to stand up even after failure. The song is an emotional highlight for the whole of Season 2 as well as the Beyond the Pacific! concert.
  • "MY Mai☆TONIGHT" sounds like something you'd hear in Touhou Project (traditional Japanese style) with characters looking accordingly.
  • "MIRACLE WAVE" is just high energy all the way.
  • "WATER BLUE NEW WORLD" delivers Aqours' signature high energy and upbeat style with heavy lyrics of moving on from the past, treasuring the present and remaining hopeful for the future. This song is a culmination of Aqours' hardships in the anime and their song for the Love Live finals.
  • "WONDERFUL STORIES" ends the anime series with a bang. It features the girls in the high school for the final time singing of how they've accomplished their dreams and will always share a bond.
  • "Thank you, FRIENDS!!" is an Award-Bait Song for Thanking The Viewers for their support. It now holds the franchise's record for highest number of Week 1 sales.
  • "Jump up HIGH!!", the theme song for the "Jumpin' up" Project and the Aqours Club 2019, is a catchy energetic banger with an awesome buildup to the chorus.
  • Opinions about Aqours' 4th Single are very positive, with some calling it as the best numbered single so far:
  • "KOKORO Magic 'A to Z'" from the ALL STARS collaboration single is a catchy take on Arabic Electro House. This also marks the first time the Cool trio (Riko, Yoshiko and Dia) sings together and it's amazing!
  • Attention, please! The theme song for the cancelled Aqours 6th Live Dome Tour, "Fantastic Departure!", starts slows and grows with intensity as the build up reaches its climax.
  • "Aqours Pirates Desire" steps it up a notch with an absolute banger akin to K-POP with occasional marching-drum beats backing the track. It's the perfect song to accompany Aqours and their pirate endeavors.
  • "JIMO-AI Dash!", the theme song for the "Take Me Higher" Project, is a cute take on eurobeat and wouldn't be out of place in the Initial D soundtrack.
  • "smile smile ship Start!" is the vocal version of "Main theme of Aqours 5th anniversary!!", which was used as the intro for their online concerts. Both tracks are, unsurprisingly, catchy and fun. This also marks the first time that members of Aqours does rap (notably, Yoshiko and Hanamaru).
  • "Kokoro no Hane yo Kimi e Tondeke!", the B-side of "smile smile ship Start!", is a slow, beautiful and emotional track.
  • "DREAMY COLOR", the theme song for the "We Are Challengers" Project, combines drum and bass with a ukulele and it somehow works! Together with great performance from the girls (including a high note solo by Arisha) and a real life music video featuring the voice actresses (which a lot of people are clamoring for) that brings the charm of Uchiura, the song proves to be a massive hit, becoming the most viewed video on the official channel in just over two months.
  • "KU-RU-KU-RU Cruller!" (the collaboration song with Monster Strike) gives us city-pop/Spinball-style vibes with the MV having extra scenes with the girls playing REAL-LIFE-PINBALL!! The stage itself also refers Spinball and many other pinball games of the 90s.
  • "KA-GA-YA-KI-RA-RI-RA", the coupling song on the Hatsune Miku collaboration single, "BANZAI! digital trippers", has Aqours genre-bend once again with yet another EDM song. With its incredible beat and booming horns, it's nothing short of a banger. All going on while Hatsune Miku herself acts as the emcee throughout the song!

     Other Songs
  • The entirety of the "Duo & Trio Collection CD Vol. 1 Summer Vacation" single:
  • "Hajimari Road" by Ruby, Hanamaru and Yoshiko is fun incarnate.
  • "Yosoku Fukanou Driving!" by Mari, Dia and Kanan feels like an old school track perfect for driving adventures.
  • Ever wanted to hear what Love Live!'s take on a tokusatsu theme song would sound like? Look no further than Aqo— er, "CYaZALEA☆Kiss"'s theme song, CYaZALEA☆Kiss☆DADANDAAAN!
  • "Never giving up!" from Chika's solo album is a cute and catchy "I Want" Song and like her previous solo, "One More Sunshine Story", would be right at home in a Broadway musical or a Disney movie.
  • "PURE PHRASE" from Riko's solo album is a powerful emotional ballad and a massive improvement from her first solo "Pianoforte Monologue".
  • "Cotton Candy Ei-Ei-Oh!" from Ruby's solo album is quite catchy, with an incredibly memetic music video; a combination which proved to be a massive hit.
  • The "Duo & Trio Collection CD Vol. 2 Winter Vacation" single capitalizes on its duo combinations, allowing the already completed series to expand upon the thoughts and feelings of several pairs during their Season 1 arcs merged with a winter theme. The live performances even feature several scenes from the anime to complement them:
    • "Kimochi mo Yume mo Issho da ne!" by Ruby and Hanamaru has each side telling the other that they will stay together forever, supporting each other because they have the same dream. This is based on how Ruby and Hanamaru join Aqours in Episode 4.
    • "Namida ga Yuki ni Naru Mae ni" by Kanan and Mari is a retelling of their entire Season 1 arc, singing their thoughts and feelings throughout it. The live performance choreography elevates this by recreating two prominent scenes from the anime: the rejection in Episode 8 and the hug in Episode 9.
    • "Misty Frosty Love" by You and Riko greatly expands the 2nd year Love Triangle, all set to 90's Hip-Hop.
    • "Party! Party! PaPaPaParty!" by Chika, Dia and Yoshiko, while not based on the anime, is a fun and catchy Christmas song that rounds up the entire single.
  • "Perfect SEKAI" from Dia's solo album is a trippy mix of EDM and Japanese instrumentation; its music video is likewise a trippy mix of surreal imagery combined with Dia at her most elegant, katana included.
  • "Motto ne!" from Kanan's solo album is a cute pop track that's also very catchy.
  • "Akogare Ranraran" from Hanamaru's solo album is another country song that's also very heartwarming.
  • "Shiny Racers" from Mari's solo album is an upbeat rock track with sick riffs and powerful vocals courtesy of Ainya. In addition, the music video is as crazy as Mari herself!
  • "MOTTO-ZUTTO be with you" from Dia's 2nd solo album taps into the EDM sphere once again, and does what "Perfect SEKAI" tries: EDM with a slight Japanese sound, and it's nothing short of amazing. It's a sound that perfectly accompanies DJ Dia.
  • "Paradise Chime" from You's 2nd solo album is an incredibly catchy song that really gets you dancing!

     Blu-ray Bonus Singles
  • Season 1:
    • "Pops heart de Odorun damon!" makes you want to stand up and move; it's the best song to jump start the 1st Live encore with.
    • "Daydream Warrior" is a typical Big Room House track, but with Aqours this time around from the Anime BDs that has an earworm of a melody. It is also the first non-Single Aqours song to reach 1 million views on Youtube, a testimony to its exceptional popularity.
    • "G Senjou no Cinderella" by the third-year trio is basically what you'd hear in a ballroom dance...on a large cruise ship. Like "Hello, Hoshi wo Kazoete", the chorus (and just the song itself) also takes you to Broadway.
    • "Thrilling・One Way" is something you would hear in an action anime rather than an idol group.
    • "Taiyou o Oikakero!" is a distinctly Aqours track with its fun and upbeat melody partnered with its catchy calls. Tokotokotoko...
  • Season 2:
    • "One More Sunshine Story", Chika's solo song, would be right at home in a Broadway musical or a Disney movie.
    • "Oyasuminasan!", Maru's solo song, is warm, cute and fluffy with a tint of playfulness.
    • "in this unstable world", Yoshiko's solo song, is a solid track with perfect performance from Aikyan, especially with how she effortlessly switches between Yoshiko and Yohane.
    • "WHITE FIRST LOVE", Dia's solo song, is a testimony on how good Arisha has become as a singer as she delivers her most expressive performance yet. It received further attention when sung live, as many fans likened Arisha's costume to the clothes worn by Elsa in the Disney film Frozen (2013) and the snowy background on the jumbotron to setting of the film's iconic song "Let It Go", which is unsurprising, considering the film's massive popularity in Japan.
    • "New winding road", Mari's solo song, is an emotional rock ballad backed by Ainya's powerful voice.
    • "Kiseki Hikaru" is the vocal version of "Okosou, Kiseki wo!" (listed under the Background Music folder) from the anime OST. The lyrics enhances the original's uplifting melody to new heights with the heartwarming message of "not giving up being the key to your dreams."
  • Love Live! Sunshine!! Blu-ray Box: "GEMSTONE "DE‐A‐I"" is a pop rock track about meeting each other once again. The electric guitar, drums and piano go hard for a certified banger.

The School Idol Movie: Over the Rainbow

Official Subunits

     CYaRon! (Chika, You, Ruby)
CYaRon! has songs based around friendship:
  • "Genki Zenkai DAY! DAY! DAY!" is fast paced fun and genkiness.
  • "Yozora wa Nandemo Shitteru no?", a song about regret that goes against their usual "genki" image and gives a lot of depth to them as a unit. On top of its instrumentals and vocals being a mix of steady, emotional and dynamic, the environmental sounds (cicadas, the shishi-odoshi, chimes) paint a vivid mental image of being under the night sky during a summer night, as the lyrics describe.
  • CYaRon! delivers another fun-filled adventure with the catchy "Braveheart Coaster".
  • CHANGELESS is a ballad about a friendship going through the passage of time.
  • Kodoku・Teleport is a cute and comfy slow song about meeting an old friend.
  • Dragon Riders, composed by Takuya of "JUDY AND MARY" fame, is a catchy song with an unexpected combination of rap verses, the ehru (a traditional Chinese instrument) and the electric guitar.

     AZALEA (Dia, Kanan, Hanamaru)
AZALEA elegantly combines themes of love and electronic music:
  • "Torikoriko PLEASE!!" is a rather lively, catchy love song that contrasts with the subunit's supposed image of soft elegance.
  • "Tokimeki Bunruigaku", which sounds like an ordinary love song. And then, when the song climaxes right after the first chorus, awesomeness ensues.
  • "LONELY TUNING" is a heartwarming song on how musicians touch the lives of their listeners.
  • "GALAXY HidE and SeeK" is a catchy love song about a metaphorical hide and seek between the lonely singer and the love interest.
  • "Sotsugyou desu ne" boasts a powerful performance for all three girls.
  • "Amazing Travel DNA" is a fun and catchy club track.
  • "Kuuchuu Ren'ai Ron" is a cute and upbeat disco love song.
  • "Maze Sekai" has fast and aggressive beats, with powerful singing from the girls.
  • "We'll get the next dream!!" is AZALEA's comeback song after two failed live concert attempts. Lyrically, it's clear what's being implied. Frustrated that they can't have a successful live due to the COVID-19 Pandemic but promises that eventually, they'll return. Musically, it's a nice EDM house track that may or may not have been remixed by Dia herself.
  • "PHOENIX DANCE" is another house track, this time containing a unique vibe that'll make you want to get up and move along.

     Guilty Kiss (Riko, Mari, Yoshiko/Yohane)
Guilty Kiss boasts high energy rock and catchy EDM filled with guilty themes:
  • "Strawberry Trapper" manages to blend a mixture of vampy vocals, wicked riffs and a high energy tone to create a song unlike anything else by the sub-units in Aqours.
  • "Guilty Night, Guilty Kiss!" trades the high energy for a playful tone, showing us another side of Guilty Kiss.
  • "Guilty Eyes Fever" kicks it up a notch by mixing the unit's signature hardcore rock instrumentals with Electro House, combined with the girls' solos to create an absolute eargasm.
  • "Kowareyasuki" is another high intensity rock song continuing the trend from "Strawberry Trapper".
  • "Guilty!? Farewell party" is a catchy upbeat disco song.
  • "New Romantic Sailors" is a fun, catchy bop which immediately became famous because of the incredibly long "Riko-chan Laser Beam!" during the bridge.
  • "Phantom Rocket Adventure" is a rare ballroom dance track, similar to the Printemps track "UNBALANCED LOVE" and the µ's track "Mermaid Festa, Vol. 1".
  • "Shooting Star Warrior" has the unit revisit the hard rock genre, with some absolutely shredding riffs to make you headbang along.
  • "Deep Sea Cocoon" continues the rock trend with an nigh metal demeanor and a dark/gothic sound. The three girls do an incredible vocal performance for what could be considered the franchise's darkest sounding song yet.
  • "Nameless Love Song" has a fun poppy sound but still has that guitars to sound like a Guilty Kiss song, and it'll make anyone want to dance.

Saint Snow

     Saint Snow
  • "SELF CONTROL!!" is an intense dance number that shows why they're at the top of the mountain in Sunshine. DANCE NOW! DANCE NOW!
  • "CRASH MIND" is another awesome song from Saint Snow, combining rocking instruments with creepy background sounds and harmonies for a slightly unnerving, yet still incredible song.
  • "DROPOUT!? on the other hand, goes from a slow piano start into a fast paced, power metal song that takes plenty of cues from DragonForce. It also has some of the most bleak and cynical lyrics in the series, which makes the chorus insisting on a Determinator outlook stand out even more, like a dark inversion of Aqours' usual output.
  • Continuing their streak as the de-facto rockers of the franchise, we have "Believe again" from the movie. Showing clear Skillet influences, the song's hard-hitting guitar pairs well with the duo's uplifting lyrics to make a standout track in the film.
  • Saint Snow doesn't disappoint with the release of their first single:
    • "Dazzling White Town" might be a huge departure from previous Saint Snow tracks, but it's still really catchy and shows that Saint Snow's talent is not limited to the hard rock genre.
    • "Lonely Snow Planet" is for fans who love Saint Snow's hard rock.
    • "After The Rain" is a ballad that features strong vocals from Saint Snow.

    Saint Aqours Snow
  • "Awaken the power", a powerful track that blends Saint Snow's music style with Aqours' high energy tempos and dance to create one hell of a rocker.
  • "Over The Next Rainbow" combines the strengths of Aqours and Saint Snow as singers, with Aqours performing the melodic sections by subunits and Saint Snow delivering the rap sections. It also has excellent performance by Asami Tano (Sarah) as she delivers a high second voice that increases the intensity and emotions of the final chorus.
