Awesome / Them!

• Officer Peterson, dies near the end. However, he manages to save the two boys that everyone else had given up all hope of finding alive from the ants before getting killed.
• The first time we see the giant ants is very well staged and impressive for one of these movies.
• Any time a character uses a flame thrower and lights up one of the ants.
• After one of the nests is wiped out, Dr. Patricia "Pat" Medford tells the male characters that she'll be going down into the remains to ensure that all of the giant ants are dead. Note the word "tells"—she doesn't ask for permission but specifically declares that she's the only one capable of doing the job (she's an expert in insects, and though her father is too, he's too elderly to search the nest safely). The men try to pull a Stay in the Kitchen on her, but Pat refuses to hear it and makes the trip herself. In other words, she's an Action Girl in a film made in 1954.
