Awesome / The White Wolf of Westeros

Go To

What happens when an Experienced Protagonist with magical powers comes to the Dark Fantasy World of Westeros? Much awesomeness.

  • Geralt's arrival in the north: He beats a team of wildlings. ALONE.
  • Geralt begins his education of the northern boys by wailing on Theon. Then beating 4 of them at once.
    • Then in some private tutoring, Jon manages to impress Geralt by holding out with some clever improvisation.
  • Though it was done in a way he wasn't interested in, Sandor vs Geralt gives the White Wolf his first real challenge as The Hound's ferocity gives him a hard time so much so that he has to "cheat" to win.
  • On seeing Bran lying on the ground, Geralt goes CSI Westeros investigating the tower for clues, eventually coming upon an important clue: A long lock of blonde hair.
  • With Geralt acting as an expedient force, he manages to get Tyrion south much faster, preventing the Lannister from ever being kidnapped by Catelyn, creating a major split in the Game of Thrones timeline.
  • Geralt saves the butcher boy from the Hound, fighting him off.
  • Geralt and Syrio engage in a quick duel, with the Witcher emerging as the victory.
  • Geralt gets to showcase his skills in deflecting arrows at the Tournament when he takes on shots from three highly skilled archers, redirecting the arrows at their targets.
  • Geralt and Sandor rush in and stop the Mountain from killing Loras Tyrell.
  • Geralt in the Melee, achieves three glorious battles.
    • One was against the Red knight Thoros, who broke out a Wildfire sword in his duel, testing Geralt's creativity. But who was a Graceful Loser, saying that Geralt was the prophesized hero of this melee, who would topple a mountain and tame a lion.
    • Second was his fight with the Mountain. His first true "monster" fight since coming to Westeros. And though the mountain was mighty indeed, Geralt fought with a righteous fury, hamstringing and crippling Gregor. The heroic achievement earning him the title of Mountain Breaker.
    • Finally, the other knights, seeing Geralt's success all back up.... except for Ser Jaime, who proclaims his ambition to be the best swordsman in the world, and so challenges Geralt for the honor.
      • What follows is called one of the greatest duels of all time, honed experience against natural talent. In the end, Geralt bested Jaime, accidentally giving him a scar along the face, yet they both earned a mutual respect towards each other.
      • This counts as a moment for Jaime as well. He's facing a man with decades of experience and whose body is conditioned and experimented on to be at the peak of human performance, and he's able to match Geralt blow-for-blow. Even when Geralt is unable and unwilling to use spells, it's still an impressive feat considering that Geralt is still an One-Man Army.
  • After poking around for weeks, Geralt almost has a complete picture on the death of Jon Arryn. He even had the idea to have Robert recall Lysa for questioning. Unfortunately, events surrounding this cut this avenue off.
  • Working with Ser Barristan and Robert, Geralt leads them to fight off an ambush of assassins, killing half of them on his own.
    • He even manages to keep Robert just sober enough to kill the boar that would have gored him.
  • Realizing they're outmatched in the throne room confrontation, Geralt and his allies pull off an impossible escape with the aid of Barristan. He also is able to backup Syrio, who is properly armed in protecting Arya.
    • Before this he gives a Precision F-Strike to Joffery, telling him he'd rather die than kneel to "pasty, spoiled brat".
  • Execution day: Realizing that Joffrey is going to kill Ned, Geralt stops playing soft ball, and uses his signs to get Ned free, and drive off Jaime and Sandor.
  • Barely a day in Essos, Ciri challenges a Dothraki Bloodrider sent to capture Daenarys. The elite raider proves to be no match for her skill, humiliating him in front of his raider band.
  • Geralt gets to the heart of Stannis's image problem: that he has to be willing to negotiate with others, or that type of entitlement would make him no better than Joffery.
  • The Silence attacks the Fury on the high seas. Geralt and his team works together to escape into some rocks, sending a majority of the raiders to the drowned god.
  • In Qarth, Ciri and Dany's carriage is ambushed by ruthless kidnappers. While outnumbered and unable to publicly use her powers, Ciri is still able to beat half a dozen of men with nothing more than her blade skills and combat cunning.
  • Cirilla giving a What the Hell, Hero? to Daenerys, thinking she could be a brutal conqueror when all that would do is destroy the kingdom she would take over.
  • The Battle of Highmarket: The Grims, having trained the smallfolk into a militia, fight an intense battle from the fortified town against the Bloody Mummers. Despite the odds, they hold out through determination and cunning tactics. With their defenses pushed to the brink, Geralt and the Winter Wolves timely arrival as The Cavalry lets them turn the fight around, defeating the infamous band of mercenaries.
    • This also leads to the Blood Mummers' leaders all being rounded up a hung like the criminals they are, justice long overdue.
  • Ser Rodrik leading a group of loyal Riverland soldiers on what could be considered a suicide mission to save Catelyn from Riverrun, now ruled by the Crones. The survivors even hold off a chort for Catelyn to escape, badly wounding the beast before they are all slain.
  • Despite being... you know, selfish and evil, Euron makes for a compelling and brilliant mind in his move to take the Ironborn for himself. Pointing out that Balon had failed as a ruler to prepare for anything substantial, that he already had the ability to expand their influences, and then brings forth a duel of honor to then legally take the power for himself. Refuge in Audacity at its finest.
  • The Winter Wolves vs Flesh Golem Edmure. A great and terrible fight where despite the horror, Geralt manages to coordinate everyone to stop his rampage.
  • Kai takes control of his city in one afternoon with his magic and influence.
  • While brutal, the Lannister's first use of field artillery is highly effective against the rows of ordinary foot soldiers and knights.
  • Joffery springs a trap on Renly, positioning a small cadre of cannons across the river from Renly. Baiting him into attacking him, then nearly blowing away all his guards at close range.
  • The climatic fight of chapter 57: Gregor Cleagane vs Loras, Renly and Brienne. The mountain was indeed a mighty and dangerous foe, slaughtering men around them. But through teamwork and perseverance, the fight ends with Brienne of Tarth beheading the mountain that rides.
    • Props to Gregor though. He ended up bringing down both Renly and Loras in the struggle, showing that even if the mountain eventually crumbled, he went out like a beast.
  • As thanks for her bravery in fighting the retreat of House Tyrell, Brienne is given her knighthood a full 5 seasons before she would in the show. She even gets a title to rival Geralt himself: The Mountain Slayer.
  • Her body is sore. Her wounds still healing. Her healing comma just awoken from. On hearing Lady Margeary's hope to slip north to ask for help, Brienne immediately vows on her knighthood to safely escort them to Lord Robb.
  • Thanks to the greater power given by finding Rlo's true name, Thoros manages to unleash a flame wave on the foglets to buy the troops time for the main army to arrive.
