In the world of Avatar where benders use their element in various and creative ways, they are described in detail in The Rise of Kyoshi.
- Anytime Kyoshi enters the Avatar State, reminding the people around her as well as herself how dangerous the Avatar can be.
- In order to protect Yun from Tagaka and the Fifth Nation Pirates Kyoshi reveals her "little problem" with earthbending; she can only do things on a large scale. She then proceeds to bend plates of earth from the seafloor, a feat even Jianzhu admits he couldn't do, to skewer and trap several of Tagaka's ships causing the pirate to wonder What the Hell Are You?.
- The Flying Opera Company being extremely nimble and graceful when they dust step. It makes it interesting to see how a stereotypically tough and stubborn element can be used with only small pieces of earth.
- The way Jianzhu earned his epithet of "The Gravedigger." After killing all the Earthbenders among the Yellow Neck criminals, Jianzhu then promised the others they would be spared if they dug an extremely deep ditch. He lied, and instead buried five thousand criminals alive, all after manipulating them into setting it up for him.
- Rangi proving to be a badass Action Girl when she decides to go up against a large daofei in the ring.
- When Wai tries to attack Lek with a knife Kyoshi quickly grabs his hand, takes out her fan, and smashes his fingers with it. She then follows up with this newfound showing of her badassery by calmly stating that she saw a poisonous bug on his hand and crushed it to protect him.
- Kyoshi getting shocked by Xu Pin An's lightning, but surviving it due to her chainmail, and wisely plays dead, waiting for the right moment to strike.
- Kyoshi's entering of the Avatar State to kill Xu Pin An. The sight is so incredible that people liken her from a soul-sucking demon to a dragon in human form:AvatarState!Kyoshi: You forget, Xu... there is always someone who stands above you in judgement. What will you do now? Knowing that your every step will have consequences?
- Kyoshi barely manages to go toe-to-toe with Jianzhu with the two holding a pebble between them, trying to stabilize and break down the restaurant around them, and all while looking like they're simply staring each other down.
- Yun returning in the picture of health but somehow Came Back Wrong and killing Jianzhu by simply pushing the rock through his chest until it goes out through his back.
