Awesome / The Butcher Bird

Go To

It's a One Piece fic. These come standard. Spoilers are unmarked.

  • Vinci gets beaten down hard in his first fight with Kid. When the rematch happens? He shuts down Kid's powers by using his own electrical generation to degauss anything Kid throws at him, and then proceeds to beat the shit out of Kid, cut off his arm, give him a Breaking Speech, and then hit him with a lightning bolt before walking away.
  • The reason ghouls aren't all over the One Piece world, and have never been seen? Roger fought them. It's implied there's some kind of Racial Remnant, but the Pirate King apparently took on the majority of the race and killed them all so hard that they were thought extinct. Keep in mind that each ghoul possesses a Healing Factor strong enough to shrug off almost any injury, steel-hard skin, and a predatory organ that can cut steel, plus other optional abilities like flight, acidic mist production, or turning into miniature Kaiju. They did not survive their fight with the Roger Pirates.
  • The Spice Archipelago Saga builds up to a long series of these. Highlights include Kaneki developing a kakuja, Vinci eliminating a rock Logia with lava, Gin curbstomping a mercenary commander, and then on the antagonist side of things freaking Jabra managing to take out most of the Nightmares in seconds before fighting kakuja-Kaneki to a draw.
  • Kaneki, Six, C, and the Oni break an entire island's slave trade in one night, and take down the criminal syndicate responsible in an Offscreen Moment of Awesome that levels the city block containing the syndicate's headquarters. And then a good chunk of the slaves become subordinate crews to the Nightmares, and the Nightmares bankroll the building of new ships for them to sail...
  • Kid pisses off the Nightmares by killing off a crew allied to them. They respond by gathering literally every pirate crew on the island at the time, all of whom hate Kid, and going right after him.
  • Kid himself gets a largely Offscreen Moment of Awesome - one of the captains of those crews mentioned above is a Logia user with The Power of the Sun. Kid crippled him.
  • The third Decks of the World. Just...most of that chapter is pure "Holy Shit!" Quotient.
  • The Warlord Saga seems to keep hitting moments every chapter. Vinci becomes a Warlord of the Sea, Herman vs. Tashigi, etc.
  • Also in the Warlord saga, Kaneki finally awakens his full kakuja and it is glorious.
  • On the enemy side of things, Rear Admiral Gripper, who delivers a series of curbstomps to every Nightmare he comes across during the big fight at the end of the Warlord Saga, culminating in him taking on the assembled officers of the crew and utterly mopping the floor with them. It takes the sacrifice of forty Augments to hold him off for fifteen minutes.
  • The Exclusion Arc starts off fairly depressing, with the Nightmare's wrecked on an abandoned island, Vinci suffering the Despair Event Horizon, parts of the crew coming close to mutiny... and who stops all of this? Gin, stepping up as the new bosun of the crew, getting Vinci to stop despairing, coming up with a plan to get everyone off the island, and dealing with the unhappy crew members so that they don't feel they have nowhere to go.
  • Through an in universe flashback, we learn that Tom, instead of being executed, had been tasked by the World Government with building Pluton, allegedly as a deterrent. Tom saw through the ruse right away and deliberately gave false information about the reactor meant to power it, so that when he overloaded it the Government would never try return to the island and continue Pluton’s construction under the impression that the island would be irradiated for centuries.
  • Later on, Vinci, after sleeping through three days after being ordered to as part of getting his head on straight, wakes up in the middle of a Kaiju attack. He stares the creature down, and by doing so apparently convinces the entire island's population of horrible mutant creatures that he is in charge now. Vinci then goes on, when the Nightmare escape vessel is destroyed, grab one of the Devil Fruits the Nightmares took from the Necromongers, summon the soul of the wrecked Ends Justified, and feed the Devil Fruit to it.
    • Said empowered soul then eats the ghosts on the island, assimilates all the wrecks and derelicts present, and comes out swinging against the Marines with an absurdly huge warship.
  • Gin runs into Don Krieg, who is wearing a Paper-Thin Disguise and using the Marines to gather recruits for his crew. Gin ignores Krieg's demands he join Krieg's crew, then proceeds to No-Sell his exploding spear. What he does to Krieg next receives the literary equivalent of a Gory Discretion Shot. Oh, and after one of Krieg's abused subordinates knifes the broken man in the throat, all the Krieg Pirates present join the Nightmares.
  • Ralgor Numa invents mutant dog-bear cavalry. That is all.
  • Guyall Rogers. Based off of Mr. Rogers himself. Also a Warrior Therapist who's master of a martial art that lets him walk on water and air and effortlessly absorb and redirect Ki Rata strikes.
  • Daiyavin Tenzin is in the same sort of boat. An Old Master who can effortlessly curb-stomp most of the Nightmare officers.
  • At the end of the Arcadia saga, Tashigi, disturbed by the violence unleashed by the Elder Star’s orders, vows to grow strong enough to prevent something like that from happening again, mentally giving one hell of a Badass Boast.
And if no better options existed...she’d just have to make them, and to hell with those who stood in her way. Even if it was the Elder Stars themselves, she’d grow strong enough to defend the innocent from even them.
And if in doing so she toppled them from their seats at the top of the world...so be it.
  • Shashou attempts to infiltrate Prometheus, using a meditative technique to avoid Theo's attention. The end result? Wolvergeese 1, Shashou 0.
