Awesome / SHAZAM! Fury of the Gods

Go To

  • During the collapse of the Ben Franklin Bridge, even though the Shazamily gets quite a bit of (rather unfair) flack for not being able to save the bridge itself, they're able to rescue every single civilian there, ensuring there are no casualties. Particular shoutout goes to Mary, who saves more people than all of her siblings combined.
  • All three of the Daughters of Atlas get to show off their power and skill at different points:
    • Hespera, who has the Power of Elements, is not only able to manipulate said elements very well (such as easily breaking out of her cell by melting the bars), but also shows off her strategic skills by getting captured and using her captivity to find out about her enemies, and to acquire the golden apple. She's no slouch in combat either, being able to put up a containment barrier in the last battle even though she's 75% dead.
    • Kalypso, with the Power of Chaos, uses her mind-control powers to frightening effect, and is able to conjure a dragon made of wood.
    • Despite being the youngest, Anthea, with the Power of Axis, has the ability to break up the land and spin it around, creating a conflicting battleground for Shazam to fight in.
  • When Freddy is brought before the Daughters of Atlas for interrogation, he shows why the Courage of Achilles is his SHAZAM specialty by remaining a Defiant Captive throughout, and also calls Anthea out on lying to him. And when Kalypso uses her Compelling Voice to try to force him to reveal the other Champions' identities, Freddy, despite clearly being in horrible pain from it, is still able to resist and even lie a couple of times, and is the only person in the entire movie shown to do so. She does barely manage to get Billy's name out of him eventually, but not the other kids'.
  • Rescuing Freddy. Once Hespera breaks out of their prison for her in the Rock of Eternity, the Shazamily are able to follow her to the cave of doors and deduce which one she went through via the porta-potty scent. Freddy has just been caught and cornered after trying to steal the golden apple from the Daughters, only for Shazam to arrive and save him and the Wizard, and in the confusion, Freddy is able to (at the Wizard's suggestion) touch his crutch to the staff to get his powers back (if only briefly before losing them again).
  • In the climax, despite Victor and Rosa having no powers and theirs kids (sans Billy) being Brought Down to Normal, they still all get a chance to contribute:
    • Victor saves some civilians by running the monsters over with the van. Even after the kids and the Wizard get out to leave, he and Rosa continue to drive around doing this.
    • Darla, upon hearing that unicorns can kill the other monsters and love sweet things (like ambrosia), immediately comes up with a plan. She proves she truly is a Friend to All Living Things by successfully managing to tame them with Skittles—despite them normally hating humans—to the point that the unicorns allow her, Mary, Eugene, Pedro, and the Wizard to ride them into battle, saving quite a few citizens this way.
    • Meanwhile, Freddy sees Anne in the crowd and chases after her, catching up only once she's been cornered by Kalypso and Ladon. The dragon blasts both of them with its Supernatural Fear Inducer breath, which Freddy and the Wizard were previously powerless against, but this time, his desire to protect Anne gives him the strength to push through it to reach her. Even as they prepare to be eaten, the two of them hold each other close and defiantly scream back at Ladon.
    • And then, the above is followed up by Shazam rescuing them Just in Time by pulling Ladon back.
    • Shazam also gets the staff back by suddenly shouting "Freddy, Anthea, don't!" and getting Kalypso to look at them, distracting her just long enough to super-speed fly snatch the Staff away from her.
  • Despite Billy getting ribbed quite a bit for lacking in the Wisdom of Solomon compared to the other SHAZAM traits, he actually does have several moments of making pretty quick deductions. The Wizard notes that his heart is wise even if his brain is not, so it's probable that Billy's just Book Dumb but clever in other ways (as he's also demonstrated as a teen).
    • When researching the Daughters of Atlas, Shazam pretty much instantly realizes that him breaking the staff in the previous film was the reason they're back now, and figures out as soon as he reads her name in the book that the third daughter, Anthea, is Freddy's new crush "Anne".
    • During Shazam's fight with Hespera, he's on the losing end while Mary and Darla are being subjected to Choke Holds with wires. As Hespera creates a large sphere out of materials in the room to attack him with, he's able to take advantage of his Super-Speed to dodge it so that she gets hit with her own attack.
    • At the beginning of the final battle, he attempts to attack Ladon and Kalypso with lightning, only to see that it bounces off the dome and gets absorbed by the staff, which gives him the idea of how to win the fight. He then seeks out Hespera to enlist her help, and when he finds her dying, despite not having any medical skills, improvises a defibrillator with his lightning to revive her. It works, and she agrees to shrink the dome down so it will only contain Shazam, Kalypso, and Ladon.
  • In the previous movie, Billy went from trying to flee from Dr. Sivana when the situation got hairy to being willing to put his life on the line facing him. He demonstrates even further how much Character Development he's had during the final showdown, where he's not just risking his life to defeat Kalypso and Ladon—he knows he's almost certainly going to die, and willingly makes the Heroic Sacrifice anyway. This is a 17-year-old kid who has the bravery to give up his own life to save his family and city.
    • Billy wins by combining his aforementioned knowledge of how the dome works with a memory from earlier in the movie of the plasma ball in his room exploding when it was overloaded with energy, and repeatedly unleashes his lightning so it'll hit the dome and be absorbed into the staff. And just like in the first movie, he again takes advantage of the fact that he's hit with a bolt of lightning when he transforms by shouting "SHAZAM!" right as he's about to collide with Ladon to give the final blow some extra power.
    • After Hespera previously scorned Billy's childishness and told him he'd never be a real god, his sacrifice impresses her so much that her final words before dying are an acknowledgement that he ''is'' a true god after all. Anthea and the Wizard also acknowledge him as a hero, and respect him enough that they decide to lay him to rest in the God Realm, at the foot of dead Tree of Life there.
  • Wonder Woman, the last being on Earth with godly powers, arrives in the God Realm right when it seems like the story will have a Downer Ending and effortlessly uses her power to re-light the staff. This in turn rebirths life in the realm and gives Anthea her magic back, and brings Billy back to life as well. She warmly bids Shazam to use the Power of Zeus wisely before departing.
