  • For a zombie, no less. Bub, after chasing Rhodes into a horde of zombies by shooting him into a crippling state, delivers a wordless Bond One-Liner with just a single salute towards Rhodes (pictured) as the zombies tear the corrupt soldier apart.
  • Joseph Pilato's intense turn as Captain Rhodes puts him in the pantheon of horror movie villains - paranoid, power hungry, unwilling to compromise, and in the end a true coward as he abandons his men to the zombie horde.
"I'm running this monkey farm now Frankenstein, and I want to know what the fuck you're doing with my time!"
  • Dr. Logan's "Where will you go?" speech to Rhodes and the soldiers. Rhodes may be badass, but it takes balls to tell him off. Especially since it's right after he threatened to kill Sarah and has been hurling threats and abuse at Logan as well. From the expression of Rhodes and the men, one can see that Logan got under their skin.
  • A villainous example, but Rhodes gets another one after finding out that Frankenstein has been using the bodies of his soldiers for experiments, after all the time and effort spent protecting the scientists and aiding them. With a dead soldier's disembodied head being hooked up to electrodes and seemingly still alive, and their bodies hacked up for use as rewards/treats for the zombies' good behavior, Rhodes immediately gives Dr. Logan's pathetic attempts to talk his way out of the situation the proper response.
Frankenstein: Listen to me Captain! You must listen!
Rhodes: Listen to this.(Opens fire with his assault rifle.)
  • John disarming and knocking out his captors before running into the mine to rescue his friends.
  • The fact that the radio operator in an underground military base is McDermott, a hard-drinking, comic relief Irishman and all around decent guy.
  • John and Sarah, in general, even though they don't see eye to eye on much in the beginning.
  • McDermott, who has been a pretty reserved character all through the film, getting several hero moments in the end. The first when he's about to drink from his flask, encounters a zombie, beats it down with a shovel and gives it a defiant "Hmpf!" Then he uses a shovel to cut the top of the zombie's head off.
    • The other moment as they're climbing the ladder to the surface. John is grabbed by a zombie, out of ammo, about to be bitten, only for the zombie to get shot in the head. Pan up to McDermott, reholstering his pistol and saying "Come along, Johnny. We're countin’ on yah to fly us to the promised land!"
  • In the mines, when John rejoins Sarah and McDermott, and passes them weapons, the close up shots on all three off them going Rambo style and blowing a horde of zombies away.
  • Rhodes' defiant "Choke on 'em!" to the zombie horde as he's being torn to pieces qualifies as well.
