Awesome / Call of Duty: Zombies

Warning: Per wiki policy, all spoilers will be unmarked on this page. Tread carefully.

  • The series as a whole is basically an Ascended Extra. Thrown in during late development of Call of Duty: World at War, it became a central element of each piece of DLC for not only that game, but for Black Ops and nearly all future Call of Duty releases and DLC. Especially important for a series that's been regularly accused of being stale and unchanging, the Zombies maps so often display wild, absurd and insane creativity with their creation, almost like all of the creative energy present in the series has been focused into this simple little minigame.
  • The end of Richtofen's Grand Scheme causes Maxis to blow up the Earth.
  • The Good End of Mob Of the Dead. The zombies actually help Weasel in the last fight - having them as your allies for a change is incredibly awesome. Not only do you actually end what had been in every map to then an Endless Game, but Weasel gets his revenge on the three mobsters who killed him in real life!
  • If you follow Richtofen or Maxis throughout TranZit, Die Rise and Buried's easter eggs, the resulting victory becomes one awesome moment for the victor... Too bad they both screw Victis over.
  • The Origins intro can be summed up as 30 seconds of Germans getting killed by zombies, 1 and a half minutes of showing how awesome the original characters were back then. and thirty seconds of letting the awesomeness lull down, right before the Giant Mecha stomps down on the bunker.
    • Let's elaborate, shall we? Dempsey crushes a zombie under his tank (no pun intended) before jumping down into the trenches and shooting them under his gun runs dry. Tossing it aside, Dempsey SLAPS a zombie, before smashing its head into a pipe, the gas inside crushing its head. Dempsey then takes out his knife and revolver and begins cleaving his way through the zombies. Then we pan over to Nikolai, who shoots zombie with his pistol, before taking a hatchet and cutting of a zombies leg and then stabbing it in the back all in the same swing, before using the hatchet to CUT A ZOMBIE IN HALF! Nikolai then throws it towards another zombie, before shooting the other zombies with his Olympia. We then pan over to Takeo, who stabs a zombie behind him, grabbing its head and pulling it over his shoulder before decapitating it, before cleaving his way through zombie after zombie, before finally meeting up Dempsey and Nikolai.
  • The final scene of the Black Ops III trailer: a horde of yellow-eyed zombies trying to get to you. Zombies is back!
  • The end of Der Eisendrache Easter Egg. In a reversal of Black Ops' finale, you blow up the Moon.
    • For bonus points, the Big Bad of Der Eisendrache, Dr. Groph, has an epic Villainous Breakdown right before the V2 Rockets blast him and the rest of Group 935 to kingdom come.
  • Playing as a spider by following a series of steps in Zetsubou no Shima. Who needs a weapon when you can be the weapon!
  • According to its trailer, the characters will be able to ride dragons in Gorod Krovi.
    • The Gauntlet of Siegfried. It's an absolute pain to get, but it is worth it. It's a gauntlet that comes with a baby dragon perched upon it that can act as a flamethrower and shoot a jet of green fire at your enemies, with the Melee animation being to jab your arm at the opponent so the dragon can take a bite out of them. Think that's all? Nope. You can let loose the little dragon to fly around and spit fireballs at your opponents while the gauntlet itself allows you to deliver one hell of a Megaton Punch that can steamroll through entire hordes easily. Even Russian Mangler Soldiers are torn limb from limb with a single blow and it's not uncommon for a rain of pulverised corpses and body parts to literally splatter down around you following a good punch.
    • In the intro, the crew uses a soldier's parachute. Not the awesome part. During the descent, they come across a dragon, and the camera eventually pans to Ultimis Nikolai, who is piloting a mech, while drunk! He handily kills the zombies and tries to take out the dragon before being distracted by the Primis crew. Said dragon then grabs him and tosses him into a building. Way to make the Comic Relief a complete badass, Treyarch. And did we mention he has 'Ace of Spades' blaring on his radio?
      • And in the end, the Final Boss of Gorod Krovi is the dragon that flung Ultimis Nikolai into a building, by shooting the cracks in its scales until it EXPLODES. The fight with Ultimis Nikolai in his mech afterward is just as intense, especially since he shoots every weapon at his disposal, while constantly dropping drunken one-liners.
  • Although they're all huge Wham Episodes, and most are Tear Jerkers besides, each part where a Primis survivor kills their Ultimis counterpart has an awesome moment:
    • Primis Richtofen is summoned by Ultimis Richtofen through a teleporter in Der Riese. Ultimis Richtofen, seemingly ecstatic to meet his younger self, takes off his hat to salute Primis Richtofen. Without ever changing his stern expression, Primis Richtofen makes clear his disdain of Ultimis Richtofen by unceremoniously shooting him in the head.
    • Primis Dempsey convinces Richtofen that, if all the Ultimis Survivors must be killed to collect their souls to save the universe, he has to be the one to kill his Ultimis counterpart. Richtofen releases him from the artifact's restraint, and Primis Tank solemnly kills Ultimis Tank by cutting the life support to his cryogenic pod.
    • Ultimis Takeo accepts needing to die to save the universe, committing seppuku while asking Primis Takeo to decapitate him.
    • Ultimis Nikolai refuses to surrender to Primis, and tries to kill them with his Humongous Mecha. After a long and brutal battle, Ultimis Nikolai's mech is destroyed, and Primis Nikolai apologizes for having to kill him, and tries to bond with him over what they've both lost (namely, their wives during an air raid). Ultimis Nikolai becomes enraged, and tries one last time to kill Primis Nikolai by shooting him with his pistol, forcing Primis Nikolai to kill Ultimis Nikolai with his shotgun.
  • Revelations. All of it. But the crowner is the ending, where the Apothicons are finally sent packing back to their cosmic dustbin of a home, never to darken their dimensions again.
  • The climax of Blood of the Dead where Brutus corners Primis as they approach Richtofen's lab, but he's suddenly stopped by a group of spirits who jump him, and successfully hold him before flying off with him into the sky. And it's not just any spirits - it's Sal, Billy, and Al.note  They managed to break free of whatever imprisonment they were in, and went to the aid of Primis so that they could buy them some time for them to save the day and potentially liberate them and everyone else in Alcatraz. And it works! The mobsters take revenge for the eternal damnation they were suffering and help save the countless souls stuck in the Apothicon prison, and in Sal and Finn's case, redemption for their sins that got them into this horror show in the first place.
  • The Alpha Omega trailer is quite something. But it's worth seeing to see the scale of The Great War finally on-screen in some manner...and to see a seemingly-older Samantha obliterate an Apothicon with one shot.
    • Even better is the outro after you complete the mission. Sam and Eddie are transported from Agartha to Primis, just in time for Sam to witness Monty betray Maxis by turning into an Apothicon and eating him. Violently. The trauma causes Sam to lose control of her powers and level Camp Edward before tersely telling everyone how she intends to burn Agartha to the ground in revenge.
  • Remember Samantha Maxis? The lost little girl that served as the Demonic Announcer for much of World At War and Black Ops? Guess what, she's been Promoted to Playable as of Black Ops: Cold War Season 2! While she was technically playable on Moon during the Easter egg (albeit having swapped bodies with Richtofen), Cold War sees her all grown up as her own playable character. For the cherry on top, she's also playable in Multiplayer and Warzone.
