The King of Fighters: Another Day is a 2005 Original Net Animation (ONA) based on The King of Fighters series, produced by Production I.G and directed by Masaki Tachibana with scripts written by Fumio Asanuma and music by Daiki Kasho. It was streamed online by Show Time and GyaO in Japan, although it later aired on TV via Animax and Kids Station. KOF: Another Day was later released on home media in Japan and North America.

The ONA is a prequel to KOF: Maximum Impact 2 (released as The King of Fighters 2006 in North America). Storywise, it takes place after the Mephistopheles was taken down by the efforts of Alba and Soiree Meira in KOF: Maximum Impact. From then on, they spent most of their free time as vigilantes to help the Southtown residents when they can. During an ordinary day, the Meiras see a mysterious explosion that demolished buildings in the downtown core.

As the citywide crisis continues, the Meiras step in to investigate. Other characters intervene and use the explosions to investigate what's happening there or for their own purpose.

This anime provides examples of:

  • Ask a Stupid Question...: Ralf asks the actual Kyo if he's one of the many clones made by NEST. Kyo glares at him and ask if he wants to find out at the end of "All Over". Iori told him that the Kyo they're observing is the real deal.
  • To Be Continued: The end of "All Over" says that the story will be continued in KOF: Maximum Impact 2.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Ash Crimson seizes the Three Sacred Treasures. However, he leaves town and Southtown is safe and sound. The various characters involved try to bring peace and order into the city.
  • Driving Question: Who's responsible for the explosions taking place all over Southtown?
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Most of the fights taking place in Southtown could be avoided if one of the parties involved just mention that they're not doing anything to jeopardize Southtown's safety.
  • Men of Sherwood: The Ikari Warriors soldiers sent by Heidern to infiltrate Southtown. They don't confront K' and Maxima, but they provide assistance to Ralf, Clark and Leona with setting up the citywide perimeter to prevent anyone from entering or exiting the city. Their appearance in the anime is one of the few instances where they're seen doing something to help the trio (and Heidern).
  • Mission Briefing: Ralf, Clark and Leona get a briefing regarding what's happening in Southtown in "In the Dark".
  • Police Are Useless: The police aren't seen when the explosions start in Southtown. The Meiras, the various KOF tournament fighters, the Ikari Warriors, Kyo and even K' and Maxima all intervene to either investigate who's responsible and/or infiltrate the city and do the things they need to do. Only the emergency services were seen putting out the fires.
  • Private Military Contractors: The Ikari Warriors intervene in Southtown in "In the Dark" after a night of chaos.
  • Rooftop Confrontation: In "Accede", Billy Kane and Lien Neville fight each other on the roof of Geese Tower. Rock Howard later enters the picture and fights Billy.
  • Sinister Subway: Clark, Ralf and Leona infiltrate the Southtown Metro in "In the Dark" and confront K' and Maxima for trying to kidnap Dr. Makishima. Except it's not and the duo are trying to find him.
  • The Stinger: Luise Meyrink shows up at the end of "All Over" while the Meira siblings are in the ruins of the church. She mutters the word "Judeim".
  • Vigilante Man: The Meiras spent time after ensuring the safety of Southtown's residents after the end of KOF: Maximum Impact.
  • We Need a Distraction: The citywide explosions, alongside the blackout taking place by K' and Maxima cutting the electrical wires, are used by the duo to look for Dr. Makishima.

Who's that lady?

The Meiras spot Luise Meyrink in Southtown days after the explosions came to an end. To be contined in KOF: Maximum Impact 2.

How well does it match the trope?
