Anime / Lostorage Incited WIXOSS

Go To

An anime by J.C. Staff, and sequel to selector infected WIXOSS.

Suzuko Homura has just moved back to the city where she lived during her childhood. As she starts to adjust to her new school and tries to find her old childhood friend, Chinatsu Morikawa, she decides to try out the card game WIXOSS in hopes of getting to make new friends at her school. However, when the LRIG of the Beginning appears to her, her memories are converted into five golden coins. Alongside her LRIG, Riru, Suzuko reluctantly enters battles as a Selector in order to protect her precious memories. Unbeknownst to her, her old friend Chinatsu, has also become a Selector. With the pressures of Chinatsu's daily life becoming too much for her, Chinatsu starts to question whether she truly needs her memories of Suzuko.

In 2018, another sequel, Lostorage Conflated Wixoss aired, following Kiyoi Mizushima as she and other Selectors find themselves drawn into yet another new battle, and Kiyoi hopes to finally put an end to the Selector battles for good.

This show provides examples of:

  • Apologizes a Lot: Basically the defining characteristic of the LRIG Guzuko, often crossing over with Apologetic Attacker during the battles she's in.
  • Awful Truth: Hanna wants to win the Selector battles so she can clearly remember what happened the day her younger brother died, which has been bothering her for some time. When she succeeds and has her LRIG restore said memory, she is horrified to realize it may have been partially her fault, as she suggested they play hide-and-seek in an apartment building and ended up completely losing track of him, leading to him accidentally falling to his death.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Incited ends with the time limit for the current Selector battles expiring, leading to Chinatsu, who only had one coin left, losing quite a bit of her memory, including her memory of Suzuko. Suzuko doesn't let it keep her down, and decides to rebuild her friendship with Chinatsu. In the meantime, the other Selectors and the LRIGs that wound up taking their Selector's place continue living their daily lives, until the next battle eventually starts...
  • Dead Guy Junior: A variation, since Masaru named his LRIG after his younger sister Aya, who had her personality erased as a result of losing all her coins. It's shown that she got better after Kiyoi finally ended the Wixoss battles in Conflated, being seen going for a walk with her brother during the "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue.
  • Death of Personality: As Suzuko and Hanna discover early in the series, if a Selector loses all five of their coins, their personality will be erased and their LRIG will gain control of their body whether they want to or not.
  • Driven to Suicide: Episode 9 of Incited has Chinatsu coming across Yukime, the LRIG of the Selector Kagari, who early in the show ended up losing all her coins and thus Yukime gained control of her body. Yukime admits that she just can't stand living as a human, before throwing herself into traffic before Chinatsu's eyes.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: By the end of Conflated, Kiyoi is able to bring peace to Eternal, thus finally ending the Selector battles for good, returning everyone's lost memories and restoring those who either had their bodies taken over or were erased from existence. Even the new LRIGs created from memories are able to gain human form and live as their own people.
  • Exact Words: Suzuko's LRIG Riru's Honest ability forces the opponent to answer a question Suzuko asks honestly when she bets one of her coins. When Suzuko uses it against Hanna during their battle in episode 5, Hanna is able to resist the effects long enough to reflect on the wording of Suzuko's question, namely whether there are any traps hidden in her cards. Hanna responds that there are, but doesn't specify whether those cards are in her hand or on the field. Suzuko interprets it as the latter, ending her turn without attacking, costing her the match. She learns from this experience, and when put in similar situations in later battles in this series and in Conflated, she makes sure to specifically ask her opponents if the cards are on the field or not.
  • Fighting Your Friend: After becoming the Bookmaker's clients, Suzuko first has to battle against her new friend Hanna in episode 5, and then against Chinatsu in episode 6. In this case, both opponents specifically requested a battle against Suzuko for different reasons. The latter battle is interrupted by an outside party, leading to another battle between Suzuko and Chinatsu in episode 11. Chinatsu also later challenges her friend Shouhei in order to get him to sign a contract with the Bookmaker.
  • Gender Bender: Since there are male Selectors in this series, but the LRIGs are still all female, this essentially happens to the LRIGs with male Selectors when gaining control of their former Selectors body upon losing all five coins in Incited. Aya in particular starts objecting that she doesn't want to end up in a boy's body when she realizes Masaru is about to lose to Kou.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Throughout Conflated, LRIGs Guzuko and Aya end up working for Carnival. During the final battle, the two discuss their options, and upon realizing that their former Selectors would be restored to existence if Kiyoi succeds, the two decide to assist the good guys.
  • Innocent Inaccurate: Rio, the youngest Selector seen in the series, doesn't fully understand how the reward for winning the game works, believing she'll be able to bring her mother back to life if she gains the ability to alter the memory of her death.
  • It's Personal: Masaru accepts a challenge from Kou when he learns that Kou is the one who ultimately defeated his younger sister Aya, causing her personality to be erased as she lost her remaining coins. However, in the end, Kou proves to be too strong, leading to Masaru suffering the same fate.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Episode 9 of Conflated has Carnival kidnap Tama in order to gain access to part of Mayu's room, and then tricks Ruko into thinking Suzuko was the one to kidnap Tama, manpulating the two into fighting. During their battle, they start to catch on that something isn't quite right, before their friends manage to get a third party to interrupt the battle.
  • Memory Tropes: Selectors who win enough battles to regain all five of their coins will also be able to change, erase, retrieve or create any memory they want.
  • Parental Substitute: Rio's LRIG, Mama, was made mostly from Rio's memories of her late mother, and acts as a mother figure towards the young Selector. In the ending of Conflated, it's implied that Mama became Rio's step mother after gaining human form.
  • Random Effect Spell: Milulun's ability when the Selector bets their coin is random every time, meaning skills that predict the opponents next move won't work on her. This comes up during both of Kiyoi's battles with Akira in Conflated, with Akira using it against Kiyoi in their first battle, and Kiyoi using it against Akira in their second battle.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Those affected by Meru's Berserk ability have their eyes glow red.
  • Reincarnation: During the "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue in Conflated, a baby resembling Kagari is shown, implying that she was reincarnated after Kiyoi ended the Selector battles.
  • Stealth Sequel: Aside from the presence of Kiyoi and a few background details in the otherworldly locations, one could easily mistake Incited as being an Alternate Continuity due to the different rules of how the game and LRIGs function. At least until Kiyoi herself brings up the events of the previous WIXOSS series and how they're connected to these new WIXOSS battles.
  • There Can Only Be One: In Conflated, unlike previous series, none of the characters initially know what the victory condition of the current round of Selector battles is, but eventually learn that only one Selector can reach the White Room after getting enough LRIGs.
  • Took a Level in Badass: After Riru convinces her to fight protect her and Chinatsu's memories, Suzuko decides to start taking the battles more seriously and has Hanna give her lessons on how to improve.
  • Victor Gains Loser's Powers: One of the new rules in Conflated makes it so winners of Selector battles gain their opponent's LRIG.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: Conflated ends with one, first showing what happens right after Kiyoi finally ends the game for good, then a Time Skip showing what everyone is up to a few months later.
  • Xanatos Gambit: How Suzuko sees her battle with Carnival during episode 11 of Conflated. Either she wins, puts a stop to Carnival's plans and gains the other LRIGs that were under Carnival's control, or she loses, but helps Kiyoi (who was watching the battle) gain information about how to win against Carnival.
