14	Following several roles in TheNineties, Quan retired from acting in the early 2000s due to the lack of roles for Asian actors in Hollywood, working as a stunt choreographer for ''Film/XMen1'' and an assistant director for ''Film/TheOne'' and ''Film/TwoThousandFortySix''.

16	However, Quan returned to acting in 2019, being inspired to do so following the success of ''Film/CrazyRichAsians''. In June 2023, it was announced that he had been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as an actor.
