* WhatAnIdiot:
** When Tsuyoshi is caught by Saori at the convention, he starts blubbering and apologising for lying to her. It comes off as a bit silly given that she managed to somehow slide his previous lie (see SureLetsGoWithThat) about surfing as a misunderstanding on her behalf, even after he actively went with it and even stated the specific beaches he supposedly surfed at: he said that he has to go to work仕事 shigoto, unaccented, not to the company会社 kaisha, unaccented, a distinction Japanese usually makes, and technically he was working--he was going to make a stand to sell his figurines at. Thinking for just a few seconds longer would have saved him a whole lot of trouble.
** expects Saori to fall head-over-heels for him the moment he proposes to her in a magnanimous gesture that relies on many, many factors he has no control over.
** Tsuyoshi makes a huge deal about ‘coming out’ as an otaku to Saori. It looks somewhat ridiculous in light of her having already seen him playing with figurines and discussing anime characters with his even more otaku friends, and even having a whole discussion on whether or not Saori ‘dumped’ him after seeing him at the convention because of that or because he was lying.
** Tsuyoshi writes in the last episode on the boards about . That’s despite the fact .

* FamilyUnfriendlyAesop:
** Clawing your way back into another person’s life after being told to leave (for a good reason) is perfectly legitimate and not creepy at all!
** All men lie. Get used to it.
** All in all, be as creepy and tactless as you like, all you need is unrelenting devotion to win a woman over. Remember: unrelenting. Standing out in the cold until you collapse and need to be hospitalised, calling the object of your desires on the phone 25 times after being told , and even borrowing money from the mob for a grand romantic gesture are the way to go, rather than proving any sort of emotional maturity, financial stability, or anything resembling proper social etiquette or a good social standing.

* Narm:
** Tsuyoshi and Saori cry so much it quickly becomes this.
** NarmCharm: Ushijima and Matsunaga might come across as very touching, if you can get over how tactless they are (especially Matsunaga!).
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Misuzu, barely. She treats Tsuyoshi so horribly she almost makes Asuka look nice by comparison, but manages to redeem herself by showing her (limited) good will towards him. Then she ruins it by showing she’s just as big of a bitchy GoldDigger as she’s always been when she .
* Squick: Matsunaga singing about his love of ankles in the series finale.
* ValuesDissonance:
** Tsuyoshi and his colleagues are apparently very calm about talking on the phone in the restroom; the only thing that seems to irk them is that it’s taking Tsuyoshi so long when he does it. Also, Tsuyoshi can’t reject any call from Misuzu, even if he’s in the restroom.
** sees the mail Yuuko sent to reminding him to brush his teeth properly, remarking that they come off as a very close couple. To a Westerner, it would look more as if she were parenting him instead, and hence Squick somewhat disturbing.
** A Westerner seeing Tsuyoshi’s boss finally having enough of his poor work ethic and unproductivity and deciding to fire him would probably side with the boss, to some extent (given his Jerkass behaviour). A Japanese person watching this would see firing Tsuyoshi as a horrible humiliation that definitely counts as DisproportionateRetribution, given the massive taboo Japan has against firing people. He would be expected instead to make him join the madogiwazoku--strip him of all responsibilities and shun him away from other employees while still paying his salary.

* TheWoobie: The eponymous character, definitely; later almost everyone in the cast who isn't a JerkAss is revealed to be a Woobie to some extent.
