* RonTheDeathEater: While [[BitchInSheepsClothing not pleasant in the slightest]], Jessica's actual degree of villainy is often grossly exaggerated by detractors to be that of an abusive sociopath who made Bart actively miserable, despite the fact that her worst action, letting Bart take the fall for the stolen church money, was explicitly a spur-of-the-moment decision made while Bart was trying to break up with her [[EvenEvilHasStandard because he wasn't personally comfortable with the lengths she went to]] - her manipulative behaviour is largely limited to talking Bart into partaking in her troublemaking (which the episode makes clear [[LoveMakesYouDumb is partially Bart's fault for falling for]]). Another common AlternateCharacterInterpretation likewise argues that her confession and implied FreudianExcuse were just her lying for sympathy, despite the fact that she angrily corrects her father about the fact that she was in-fact expelled from boarding school, and then chases after him when he flees in denial of her behaviour; that she'd have no reason to lie about any of this is usually ignored entirely.

This is stuff I run into a lot, and it feels like a gross misreading of the episode.

** Did the Lovejoys really believe Bart was responsible for the church money being stolen, or did they know he was innocent and merely used him as a scapegoat so they wouldn't be guilty by association? The reveal that Timothy was aware of Jessica's behavior but chose to turn a blind eye, as well as the Lovejoys' pretentious nature in general, suggests the latter.
