* ShallowParody: The scene of Lisa and friends watching Film/BendItLikeBeckham depicts a girl named Jesminder being forbidden from playing soccer by her FantasyForbiddingFather. In the actual film, not only is the main protagonist better known as Jess, but it's her ''Mother'' who disapproves of her desire, while her father is an OpenMindedParent who happens to be a HenpeckedHusband.

Cut the Ronaldo part since the rape allegations were against Cristiano Ronaldo, not the Brazilian footballer.

* HarsherInHindsight:
** Ronaldo's appearance in this episode, along with the scene where he says he broke up another family, can be quite uncomfortable to see after the real life Ronaldo was accused of rape.
** Homer and Lisa's plot deals with the way overinvestment in sports causes people to behave abnormally, with the normally-conscientious Lisa realizing that soccer has made her crazy after watching a DVD Homer gave her about sports riots. The very next episode, "The Boys of Bummer," would see the town bullying Bart into near-suicidal behavior after he misses an easy fly ball and loses Springfield's Little League championship.

%% * UnintentionallySympathetic: A big deal is made about Bart killing Marge’s character. The problem is; even if you ignore the fact that it was an accident after Marge destroyed all of his hard work, Bart feels so guilty about it (after his anger during the initial argument scene) that he feels more sympathetic than Marge does.

Given that Bart had to sacrifice two-thirds of his character's health to revive her, it's implied that the game doesn't feature a simple respawn system..

* UnintentionallySympathetic: A big deal is made about Bart Marge’s character. The problem is even if you ignore the fact that it was done accidentally in a fit of rage after Marge destroyed all of his hard. The simple fact that it is a game and she should have just respawned makes it impossible to care.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The episode tries paint Marge as InnocentlyInsensitive she actually comes across BitchInSheepsClothing. Marge obviously knows how to play the game as in the GoodTimesMontage. Yet she seems to go out of her way to destroy the experience for Bart. Even if you ignore the sequence where she was learning how to play, it’s still a game she obviously doesn’t care about if she doesn’t know how important inventory management is. Given that she replaced all of his gear with HelloKitty without hesitation. They tried to make it a heartfelt moment with Bart resurrecting Marge but her character should have just instantly respawned. The fact that it didn’t means that she either intentionally prevented it or the rules of the game suddenly changed for her. All in all it comes across that Marge intentionally set out to ruin her son’s fun. Especially considering that her final act was to tell everyone that the villain of the game was vulnerable.
