** Addison (Sam's first wife) is an ever bigger example. Unlike Sofia (who also had an affair and eventually resorted to blackmailing Anna), Addison hasn't even done anything wrong. She was presumed dead for five years, suffered head trauma and lost her memory after a horrific subway accident, missed out on spending time with her family (whom she genuinely wants to reconnect with when she finally gets her memory back), and (as revealed at the end of Book 3, Chapter 5) is still legally married to Sam. And yet, she's treated as an antagonist for having the audacity to get in the way of Anna and Sam's wedding, despite A) still being legally married to Sam, and B) Anna got in the way of Sam's engagement to Sofia, resulting in her being dumped at the altar for a woman she barely knows by comparison.

* DesignatedVillain: A lot of readers feel this way about Sofia. She may be entitled, stuck-up, bossy, and not good with children, but she does genuinely attempt to bond with the twins and generally isn't overtly rude to Anna unless Anna is rude first. Most agree that the book hasn't quite sold her as the loathsome villain she's made out to be and she doesn't deserve to be cheated on.

Needs citations.

* UnfortunateImplications: If Anna is not white, Sofia comes across as racist at times, namely when she first meets her and immediately assumes she's the maid and calls her "the help."

* AndYouThoughtItWouldFail: Fan response to the book's announcement was extremely negative, with the book's description and steamy advertising leading many to believe the book would be a [[FollowTheLeader clone]] of the poorly received ''VisualNovel/WitnessABodyguardRomance''. And while there were some similarities to Witness (short chapters, steamy content and only one love interest), fans were pleasantly surprised at the likable characters (particularly the twins), and unlike Witness, the romance was handled relatively tastefully and didn't completely overwhelm the plot.

Others view them as creepy, controlling, predatory towards Anna, and inexcusably cheating on their fiancee.
