* AwesomeMoments: This is a Crowning EPISODE of Awesome for Barclay. He's far more comfortable in his engineering role, he makes significant contributions to his team, he overcomes his fear of transporting, he actually pulls rank, and when his suspicions about the transporter are confirmed, he convinces the senior staff to take the system offline until a solution is found. A far cry from how he was introduced to us.

* FridgeLogic: Barclay asks Geordi if anything strange had ever happened to him while using the transporter. Geordi replies "No, not really". Apparently, Geordi either forgot that [[Recap/StarTrekTheNextGenerationS5E24TheNextPhase one time a couple of episodes ago the transporter turned him and Ro intangible and the whole crew thought they were dead]] or somehow doesn't consider that to be "strange". In all fairness, an experimental Romulan cloaking device was mostly responsible for that. Geordi probably left it out due to the extenuating circumstances or just to keep Barclay from freaking out worse using [[FromACertainPointofView A Certain Point Of View]].

* HilariousInHindsight: The episode actually features something happening before it was reality: hypochondriacs diagnosing themselves over the internet! In this case, Reg Barclay looking up symptoms for various diseases, including transporter psychosis.
** The episode ends with Barclay getting through his fear of transporters [[HereWeGoAgain only to get scared of spiders]]. In "Genesis", when the ''Enterprise'' crew changes into animals, guess which one Barclay becomes?

Well, there WAS that [[StarTrekTheNextGenerationS5E24TheNextPhase one time the transporter turned Geordi and Ro intangible and the whole crew thought they were dead]] but [[SarcasmMode why would you consider THAT to be "strange"?]]

So that [[StarTrekTheNextGenerationS5E24TheNextPhase one time the transporter turned you and Ro intangible and the whole crew thought you were dead]] doesn't strike you as "strange" then, Geordi?
