** The very first scene of the fic has [[Manga/AhMyGoddess Urd]] deride the original Luffy as a lazy, stubborn idiot coasting on raw power and dumb luck, claim his quest to find the One Piece was doomed to failure no matter what because he allegedly wasn't training hard enough, and then send Ranma's spirit to take over his body shortly after his birth, effectively pulling a KillAndReplace on him.
** Many of the canon members of the Straw Hats have their character quirks treated as serious flaws they need to be forced to overcome in order to become truly competent - Nami's distaste for picking unnecessary fights and bossy attitude, Usopp's use of [[ImprobableWeaponUser slingshots and trick weapons]] instead of regular guns, and Sanji's [[WouldntHitAGirl extreme chivalry]] all being notable examples. His work with the Revolutionaries is completely waved off as a cheap attempt to justify whatever offscreen evil he might have done while reluctantly serving the World Government, and even when Ivankov confirms his double-agent status during the Impel Down arc, Luffy shows zero remorse for killing him and barely spares him a second thought. And following the later developments in canon that revealed Kuma's backstory and caused a surge in his popularity within the fandom, the author seems to have doubled down, with the current version of Chapter 31 having Sanji [[NoSympathy directly mock and insult Kuma]] for [[spoiler:making a deal with the World Government to save his daughter's life.]]

This does not bode well when Bonney eventually learns of Kuma's death and [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge find the one responsible to avenge him]]. Which it would be Luffy whom she encountered at Sabaody.]]

** To rub further salt in the wound, One Piece Chapter 1095 reveals that [[spoiler: Bartholomew Kuma was the last of the Buccaneer race and he was holding out hope that the Sun God Nika will appear one day as his deceased father told him. Which means that not only he perished with the Buccaneers now extinct, he died to Luffy who would have been Nika if he had eaten the Gum-Gum Fruit instead of letting it go to Shanks and chose the Rumble-Rumble Fruit]].
