* OneSceneWonder: Creator/JaneKrakowski as the Countess. She shows up for one and a half scenes to do a bombastic musical number while DrivingADesk, pulls a gun on Melissa, and exits the story. Despite this, her solo was lauded as one of the best things of the fifth episode.

* AwardSnub: After "Corn Puddin'" won an Emmy award, none of the Schmicago songs received nominations, even though the likes of "Talk to Daddy" and "Over and Done" might provide the best songs across both seasons.

* WTHCastingAgency: Creator/KristinChenoweth, one of [[LargeHam the largest hams in musical theatre]] is cast way against type as Mildred Layton, who's [[ColdHam grandiose in her own way, but quite reserved]]. It's been said that letting Chenoweth play a more openly hammy role would've made her solo better, as the clear takeoff of [[Theatre/TheMusicMan "Ya Got Trouble"]] doesn't quite work when the character's otherwise presented as a total stiff, and even acts that way for a good portion of the song where she's supposed to be rousing up the entire town. This was averted in season 2, where she absolutely hams it up as the [[Theatre/SweeneyTodd Lovett-esque]] Ms. Codwell.

Then Season 2 reveals that Schmigadoon has turned into Schmicago since Melissa and Josh left, where everything is a dark, cynical 70s musical and it's much harder to get a happy ending. So much for change being a good thing.
