* GrowTheBeard: The first few chapters don't give a very good idea about what the story is about, being far shorter than the story's average would come to be and the author clearly struggling with beginning the story without overwhelming the reader with an exposition dump. Chapter 4 shows the first signs of the story's promise, with Arturia's fight with Jaune, Ruby, Blake, and Ren providing both the anticipated curbstomp and impressive emotional depth with Arturia and Jaune's struggle over the latter's desire to be huntsman clashing with the former's negative experience as a hero. The story would continue to craft its own unique tone as the slow reveal of Kirei and Gilgamesh's machinations would eventually explode the plot into a roller-coaster of excitement with the Fall of Beacon being expanded by . Afterwards, more links are revealed between the two canons of the crossover and the author's writing improves by leaps and bounds with the new relationships providing rich character drama to develop.

* TheWoobie: No one has it easy in the story, but Yang especially never seems to catch a break. To wit, her first fight with Kirei lands her in a coma, after which she trains hard to join her friends in saving the world only for Kirei to come for the Origin Rounds Summer stored at the house and . After barely surviving that, she finally meets Raven, who seems to be perfectly fine with letting die. She is so depressed and convinced that she is just a burden to everyone she loves, only moving forward after picks her up, leading her to join up with Ruby and Blake at a crucial moment only to learn and Ruby has become far more pragmatic from the war, willing to let their father die to save the world. Then, just when they think they have a workaround for that issue, it gets yanked away from them when . At the same time, she nearly gets her mind melted by while learning that Raven does care about her and that Ruby . She is once more riddled with indecision, blaming herself for recent events and terrified of making things worse. Oh, and when she finally gets the courage to tell her sister the truth, . It doesn't stop there. [[spoiler: The good guys need to fight it out for the grail. Yang is confident she can rely on Blake to help keep the situation under control. Only for Blake to immediately cut off the arm she lost in canon, so Lancer doesn't have to fight Rider and they can win the grail without having to kill anyone. Just to rub some extra salt in the wound, Blake ends up being too scared to use her wish and instead gives it to Jaune. Yang nearly burned her alive for this, but is thankfully talked out of it. Years later, Yang is still understandably pissed at Blake for backstabbing her, even after what they've been through and all she's suffered.]] Girl needs a hug.

Sinkhole. The trope isn't for something that's been planned from the beginning.
