* HarsherInHindsight: Robbie Daymond portrayed Lino Fernandez, a Zeon academy recruit who idolizes Char before he realizes that he's using his death to motivate the others to revolt. Come VideoGame/Persona5 and in Anime/MobileSuitGundamIronBloodedOrphans, he gets further backstabbed. Both cases even being by a CharClone.

* EvilIsSexy: Kycilia has undergone both AdaptationalAttractiveness and AdaptationalVillainy; beautiful, cunning, and with a cruel streak rivaling Gihren.

Added DiffLines:

** Roger and Michelle Aznable's fate. Their son Char was indirectly murdered by the orphaned boy they took into their own home and they never find out about this. And even though they disowned "Char" for not contacting them again (and the real Char ranting about buying in to Gihren's rhetoric), they went looking for him on the eve of the battle of Loum anyways. Only to die when none other than "Char Aznable" destroyed the space port they were evacuating out of, killing them both.
** Teabolo Mass's death. As Anti-Zeon sentiments grew, his home came under siege from rioters forcing Sayla to fight. Already suffering from a weak heart, the only thing on his mind was where Sayla was. Seeing all the chaos around him and not knowing if Sayla was safe ultimately caused his heart to give out. Worse is when Sayla gets the news; unlike all the other traumatic moments in her life, she doesn't scream in terror but just resigned herself to the tragedy and quietly cries into the side of his bed.

* {{Narm}}: Sadly, Yas had the bright idea of merging the infamously narmful TV version of the crew mourning Ryu's death with the more dramatic movie version where Amuro and Hayato fight each other, which just wound up being even sillier. Worse, the redesigned, simplified version of the Guntank in ''Origin'' makes Amuro's original reason for being angry at Hayato (failing to prevent Ryu from stealing his Core Fighter) completely moot. Here, Amuro attacks him for whining too much, when ''everybody else'' was acting the same way. This might have made a bit of sense if it had been the other way around, since Hayato is TheResenter to Amuro, [[UnknownRival but Amuro had never known or cared what Hayato thought of him]].

** Sayla's coup in A Baoa Qu was supposed to be a triumphant conclusion of her CharacterArc. Instead, it just comes off as silly, since ''nobody in the entire base'' even considered the fact that the Federation soldier they just captured, who claimed to be Zeon Deikun's long lost daughter, might be lying. In fact, an impromptu rebellion forms around her near effortlessly, without her having to do anything more than saying her name.
** The only way Yas writes major battles seems to be "establishing shot of many tanks, planes, and/or ships, followed by lots of mobile suits clumped together and stabbing each other". This is especially ridiculous during the battle at Jaburo, which featured a scene where an entire corridor was literally filled to the brim with retreating Zakus. And other than a throwaway line by Sleggar, there was no explanation as to why no GM pilot ever accidentally stabs a reactor and blows everything up during these chaotic fights.

The changes made to Kycilia have elicited this from some quite a few fans, who prefer believe her original characterization as a ruthless but pragmatic strategist and dislike how would have been much more interesting instead of the reckless, impulsive DistaffCounterpart of Gihren ''The Origin'' basically made essentially makes her into into.
** The AdaptationalVillainy that Zeon as
a female Gihren.faction gets has elicited this from some fans. Garma goes from [[TokenGoodTeammate the most moral member of his family]] who actively avoids committing war crimes and someone who wants to legitimately earn his promotion, to an obnoxious SpoiledBrat who coasts off his family name. Zeon Zum Deikun goes from a sage, if overly idealistic philosopher, to a crackpot who if he hadn't passed likely would have led Zeon to their doom by initiating a war against Earth before they were ready.

YMMV example can not be played with.

* InferredHolocaust: Averted in the most horrific way. The One Year War and its various battles are given excruciatingly detailed tallies, which ultimately total something like 6 billion. The battle of Hatte alone is mentioned by Dozle to have left 100 million civilians dead. For comparison, the highest tally of UsefulNotes/WorldWarII victims is 85 million.

Added DiffLines:

** The numerous changes to both character personalities and outright plot happenings compared to the original series irritates a lot of fans of the latter. Most commonly cited are the changed personalities of the Zabis and especially Char himself as well as the attempt to tie in Char and Amuro's destinies together. Amuro himself being a conspiracy nut who was trying to find out what the "Gundam" is rather than being a complete shut-in that needed Frau to intervene just so he'd remember to eat is also a contested change. To make matters worse, the OAV is marketed as a prequel to the original series, especially in markets outside Japan, with nary a mention of the manga to be found, so newer ''Gundam'' fans would be extremely confused going from this to the original series.

Removing Ryu because that's a case of a character being different in adaptation.

** Ryu is a lot more grouchy and sarcastic than the jolly man he was in the original series. [[FreudianExcuse Then again, in the original series he had not been nearly killed by Char at Loum...]]

Added DiffLines:

** Was Jimba Ral really a conspiracy theorist who leapt to semi-accurate conclusions, or an emotional man who knew what kind of people his enemies were? It's not made clear whether or not the Zabis actually killed Zeon Deikun, but they certainly were ready to use the media to report he had been assassinated almost as soon as he died. Similarly, Jimba was wrong about which Zabi [[spoiler: ordered Sasro's death]], but he was right that the Zabis used it to frame him and we see it's not the last time a Zabi will do this.
** What did Zeon Deikun actually intend? He talks about war when discussing his speech, but later on Degwin insists to Gihren that Deikun never wanted a conflict.

Added DiffLines:

** The idea of there being an original Char Aznable that ends up fitting into a dark [[spoiler:BodyDouble plot]] doesn't fly well with some fans, given the sheer ContrivedCoincidence of Casval growing up with an IdenticalStranger just for this to happen. Some opinions dive deep into FanDislikedExplanation because it tries to answer an plot element from the original series in an overly-convoluted fashion, while others think it only highlights just how much of a [[MoralEventHorizon horrible person]] Casval was ''long'' before the One Year War.

** On the merchandise side, the HG version of the RX-78-2 (Origin version) ends up reusing a lot of parts from the new GM (Guard and Intercept custom), when canonically it was the GM that was created by stripping the bells and whistles off the Gundam.
