* PopularWithFurries: Considering it was made by the same developer as ''VideoGame/TokyoAfterschoolSummoners'' and also has an abundance of [[BeastMan attractive anthropomorphic animal characters]], it's only natural that this game would also attract a significant number of furries.

so i did some research and it turns out that the character was released just in october 2020 and base breakers need to wait 6 months. since the controversy stems from just the character design itself then it falls more under Unfortunate Character Design.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Barrel. He's an anthropomorphic dog alien born in Houston, Texas who idolizes western movie heroes and longs to be one. That as a base concept is well and good, except that he became a cop and regularly expresses a desire to open fire on "evildoers," despite being unable to hit a target unless he's in hero form. With the game's release being only a few months after George Floyd's death and police brutality protests in America, let's just say his release did not sit right with many Western fans. The controversy became so overwhelming in the 24 hours following his official reveal that less than a day later, Lifewonders changed his bio slightly to downplay his love of guns and change his weapon of choice to a tranquilizer gun.

%%* OvershadowedByControversy: In western countries, the game has become mostly known as "that game that released Barrel, a trigger-happy cop character months after the Black Lives Matter movement protests over the death of George Floyd". The backlash that resulted was swift and relentless, as Barrel's character bio and mechanics were altered in ''less than 24 hours after release''.

Removing natter, I thought we stopped using "full stop"

* FanNickname: Prior to the game's release, Lifewonders released a few screenshots showing how the game looked and how to play. Among those screenshots was [[https://live-a-hero.jp/wp-content/themes/liveahero/img/index/img_02.png a picture of the avatar selection screen]], where players can name the main character, showing the first protagonist option, the default human male, with the name "Nozomu Hoshihara" (a rather thematically-appropriate name considering the game's themes, as "nozomu" can mean "dream" and "hoshi" can mean "star" or "wish"). Many fans have adopted this as the main character's "real name," and some have taken it a step further by referring to the female playable characters as "Nozomi."

Commenting out because Overshadowed By Controversy requires a waiting period of at least 6 months. While Barrel is a controversial character, the game is barely a month old and, as of today, he hasn't been released yet.
