* MoralEventHorizon: Though the Vampires do a number of reprehensible acts -- kidnapping Philipe's innocent mother, murdering kind old Mr. Metadier, blowing up an entire ship full of people and leaving no survivors just to rescue Irma -- they cross it very early on by murdering Marfa simply because they hope it will discourage Philipe.

* SignatureScene:
** Marfa Koutiloff's dance performance, despite being in the film for only a couple of minutes, is one of its most well-known scenes.
** Irma Vep performing at the cabaret and her distinctive snarl is one of the most well-known images of her, apart from her sneaking around in her catsuit.

* StrangledByTheRedString: Romance is not one of the film's strong suits. Philipe spontaneously acquires a fiancée one episode and marries her in the next.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Moreno is a significant character up until the eighth episode, where he's ceremoniously killed offscreen at the start. Given that he was the only WorthyOpponent to the Vampires besides Philipe and Mazamette, it's disappointing to see him have such a downbeat conclusion.
