His open stance while closing in leave him at the mercy of many characters - Kalkstein's forward thrusts, Lazslo's lunges, Marie and Isabella in general, etc. He also has a large profile (though the game tries to mitigate by giving him higher HP), and his damage is nothing to write home about either. In summary, Gedeon is difficult to learn and the payoff simply isn't there.
