* TooBleakStoppedCaring: Very early in the series, Georgie's mother kicks her out of the house while screaming abuse at her. Said mother [[spoiler:also dies alone regretting how she treated her]]. Then, Georgie gets a lot of grief over from Abel, who beats up his own little brother and runs away from home because he can't deal with his feelings for her. Then, Georgie's [[spoiler: love interests die off like flies - Abel sacrifices his life for his brother, Lowell dies of disease, and Arthur is DrivenToSuicide after being raped repeatedly by Irwin, so he slits his wrists. Georgie, who pines for Lowell and even sold her own family heirloom for him is distraught, before finding a SecondLove in Abel until he chooses to die to save Arthur. At the end of the series, it's just her and a very broken Arthur left to raise her and Abel's child]]. On top of constant antagonizing from the Dangerings and Georgie's ''multiple'' near-death scenarios, you can see why this anime remains unpopular amongst shojo readers.

She is made a bit more sympathetic in the anime and has some moments of genuine affection towards Georgie, despite her strictness, which makes her kicking Georgie out all the more tragic.

* {{Squick}}: The fact that two of Georgie's romantic interests are her [[BrotherSisterIncest adopted]] [[NotBloodSiblings brothers]] can turn people off to the series. At the end of the manga, Georgie not only has Abel's child, [[PairTheSpares it's also implied she'll start a relationship with Arthur.]]
