* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The primary criticism leveled against the game is that it didn't fit at all into the established ''Fallout'' style and setting. The Soundtrack in particular has been criticized for switching out the usual Golden Oldies in favor of NuMetal and {{Metalcore}} tracks. Even a fair amount of Fallout fans who happen to be Metalheads themselves disliked this change.

* TierInducedScrappy: Cain the Ghoul is supposed to be a Jack-Of-All-Trades able to use Heavy Weapons and Dual Weapons with movement penalties. However his Hit points are the lowest of any character and due to bugs the Die Hard &First Aid general skills that increases Hit Points and healing from stimpacks respectively only provide a fraction of what other characters get. It isnt helped that his personal skills are mediocre. Sadist is massively overpriced, Rad Child only works in radiation pools, Pyromaniac depends on flame weapons that are few & low-tier. Butcher is actually useful with bladed weapons, but they are less effective than blunt weapons.

* UncannyValley: While it's one of the first games in the series to feature three-dimensional graphics, just like ''VideoGame/Fallout3'', the graphics have aged badly. The most notable example is that the character models look "frozen" due to primitive facial animations and the textures look very muddy.

** However, since the release of ''VideoGame/Fallout76'', it actually compares ''favourably'' to ''Fallout 76''. As of November 2018, based on Metacritic scores, ''76'' scored 50% with critics and 2.7 with users, while ''Brotherhood of Steel'' sits at 64% and 4.2, respectively. A common statement is that unlike ''Fallout 76'', which had [[ObviousBeta so many bugs]] that many found it literally unplayable, this one, while not without its own bugs, is in nothing else,[[SoOkayItsAverage a playable game]], though [[DamnedByFaintPraise most will still say that doesn't mean it's good]].
