** The fatalities in the Sega CD version can be shockingly disturbing and detailed despite the game's age. Mitigated somewhat by the few fatalities that are so over the top, they cross the line twice into black comedy.
** This commercial for the Genesis version has two older fighting games running and screaming in fear from the titular game's box, which growls at them and chases them down as the announcer says, "Eternal Champions is gonna eat your old fighting games for lunch!". Eventually, the box corners one of the older fighting games in the kitchen and devours it, with it screaming the entire time. Then the box lands on WELCO METOT HENEX TLEVEL, Sega's slogan at the time, which is made out of silverware, and belches "SEGA!". The music and the atmosphere certainly don't do the commercial any favors.

* ScrappyMechanic: The Inner Strength gauge is supposed to be your resource for special moves, and allows for IShallTauntYou taunting the opponent to lower their own gauge in exchange for some of the user's own. The problem is that TheComputerIsACheatingBastard, can taunt you as much as it wants to cripple your gauge, and then use whatever special moves it wants with impunity despite having their own as empty the whole time. This results in situations like the FinalBoss making itself invulnerable whenever it pleases if it just feels like being a real bastard, and turns the single-player into a hellish slog.

He withheld contestants so that the Eternal Champion's contest could never be completed, upon entering said contest distorted it into a battle of ego and hatred to further weaken his brother, and will abduct any contestant who is unfortunate enough to get curb stomped by their opponent and finish them off himself by using their worst fear against them. Yikes!

*** In a game where the goal is to SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong, any historical inaccuracies can be justified by explaining that it's just different in their version of the timeline.
** The manual mentions that the Eternal Champion himself trained the characters that didn't know how to fight; furthermore, in Slash's ending, it's mentioned that he uses a technique learned from Xavier. None of this explains why an Atlantean champion (who died to a cheat) would learn a completely new fighting style...
