* UnintentionallySympathetic: Lisa is upset at Akeem after discovering of Lavelle and at one point, Meeka refers to the whole ilegitimate son's mess as his "father's mistake" and neither of the two are called out by the narrative, giving to understand they are right to feel like that. [[VictimBlaming One has to wonder how does getting date-raped was Akeem's fault]].

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The film is bizarrely cavalier about the fact that Akeem was essentially date-raped, with no one seeming to think any less of Mary for it. The fact that she constantly acts like she already owns the place and gloats in front of Akeem's ''wife and daughters, especially Princess Meeka,'' about how her son will own Zamunda just exacerbates her character's detestability.

** Pretty much everyone in the main cast but Akeem and Lavelle in the Royal Family falls into this, given none of them had any sympathy towards the whole date-rape situation. King Jaffe knew about the whole thing and only used as an opportunity to get a male heir, Semmi aranged the whole thing and didn't care about it, as long as he could get laid, The Princesses treated as their father's mistake (although there's a chance they didn't knew the full story) and Lisa also see it as his mistake and actually gets upset when Mary leaves and forces him to bring her back.

Misplaced, moving to the correct tab

* IKnewIt: The trailers were not even subtle; as soon as it was mentioned how all the previous heirs were men, many correctly guessed [[spoiler:that the rule would be extinguished and one of Akeem's daughters would take the throne.]]

* TheScrappy: Mary. The fact that she's introduced as the character that raped Akeem back in the events of the first movie already doesn't make her the most likeable character but the fact she's never called out for it, that she constantly acts like she owns the place and [[InformedWrongness most people blame Akeem for the incident]] make many fans see her as an example of everything wrong with the sequel.

NLID is for character actions that get exaggerated. This is a meta example. It might fit Unfortunate Implications better, but that no longer allows on-page examples.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** The sequel puts far more emphasis on the sexism of Zamunda's culture, which goes disturbingly unaddressed in the first film, with Lisa being none too happy that Akeem doesn't consider their firstborn daughter as his heir.
*** Mind you, the fact it's a woman rather than a man who is part of a hereditary dictatorship makes it a bit of a BrokenAesop.
** TheReveal in the first trailer that Akeem has a son in America led many viewers to believe Akeem had been unfaithful to Lisa despite being head-over-heels in love with her in the first film. The second trailer clears this up by including a line from Akeem explaining that his son's conception happened before he and Lisa even met.

"Idiot Plot" and "Unfortunate Implications" are now Flame Bait.

* IdiotPlot: King Jaffe apparently forgot that he employed ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem so Akeem and Lisa could marry in the first film, as the sequel's plot hinges on Zamunda's laws requiring Akeem having a male heir to pass the throne down to. Yet this could be interpreted that Jaffe is incredibly old and has forgotten about this, since the movie took 30+ years later and he is probably trying to honor the Zamunda tradition before he dies.
