The Major Crimes Unit wasn't formed until after Season 2; in Season 1, it was just the Barksdale Detail.

* "[[Recap/TheWireS01E08Lessons Lessons]]": One of Orlando's dancers overdoses, gets raped by Wee-Bey, and is unceremoniously dumped, which will lead to Shardene acting as an informant for Major Crimes. Omar, after previously providing information about the Gant case to the police, takes vengeance into his own hands, killing Stinkum and wounding Wee-Bey during an attempted hit on a rival dealer. Stinkum's murder also causes division between Major Crimes and Homicide, after Cole is prevented from making an arrest because it would ruin the Gant case.
* "[[Recap/TheWireS01E09GameDay Game Day]]": Major Crimes finally gets a visual on Avon, but he shakes them off, all-the-while knowing exactly who they are. Omar gets his hands on Avon's pager number and attempts to ambush him, but he is foiled and wounded by Wee-Bey. Bubbles, after a risky theft over what turns out to be baking soda, decides to get clean and moves back in with his reluctant sister.
* "[[Recap/TheWireS01E10TheCost The Cost]]": Stringer calls off the bounty on Omar, who correctly deduces a forthcoming trap and skips town to New York. Orlando gets busted selling drugs (to the anger of Avon, who needed Orlando to keep his nose clean and business legitimate), and despite hesitation and reluctance from Major Crimes, Burrell forces the detail to use him in a buy/bust operation. However, the Barksdales instead turn this into a trap, killing Orlando and shooting Kima in a case of surprise and mistaken identity, leaving her critically injured.
