* ObfuscatingInsanity: It's hard to tell if the crazy Lion Lavertus is this or not, especially since he seem to have fun messing with Cragger with this trope.

* CatchPhrase:

** Played with in season 2, as all the previous enemies (Croc, Wolves, and Ravens) are now allied with the more noble tribes. We also now have new animals ([[BatOutOfHell Bats]], [[SpidersAreScary Spiders]], and [[ScaryScorpions Scorpions]]) that are living up to negative stereotypes.
** The Ice Hunters from season 3, which consist of [[PrehistoricMonster Saber-Toothed]] [[CatsAreMean Tigers]], [[CruelElephant Mammoths]], [[VileVulture Vultures]], and [[spoiler:BearsAreBadNews Cave Bears]]. By contrast, there's noble Phoenixes and [[PantheraAwesome Big Cats (a Leopard and a few Tigers)]].

* AllThereInTheManual: The official website provides bios for characters that don't get a lot of focus in the tv series, in addition to information on the various weapons used.

** The majority of the tribe animals have names that start with the same letter as their species. For example, all the lions have names that start with the letter L.

* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Spinlyn, queen of the Spiders. She's mostly concerned with her beauty, and the other spiders follow her mostly because they are awe-struck by her appearance.

* OneWheeledWonder: Speedors are (with a couple of exceptions) one wheeled racers.

* {{Precursors}}: The Phoenix tribe, who were the first intelligent beings in the land and the source of CHI.

** However, there are exceptions. Cragger is prone to bad decisions, but isn't really evil; even when he becomes the main villain he's more BrainwashedAndCrazy thanks to Crooler's Persuader Plants. Cragger's parents seemed more interested in his safety and welfare than anything else. Crominius even helped out the Wolves by unifying them together when they were in a state of civil war in an act of kindness. And Wonald is just a naive little Wolf kid.

** Lagravis's "Use it well. Use it wisely." when giving other tribes CHI.

** To be long in the tooth is to be old, and Longtooth is one of the Lion Tribe's oldest warriors.

* PuppetKing: Cragger is the ruler of the Crocs', however his sister Crooler uses the pollen from Persuader Plants to make him do whatever she tells him.

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: After Scorm's defeat, he decides he wants nothing more to do with Chi and has it all dropped into the gorge. This allows the Ice Hunters to be reawakened and continue their conquest over Chima.

* AndIMustScream: Though the Ice Tribes's victims are subjected to HarmlessFreezing, they still are unable to do anything but blink.

** The Phoenix Tribe tried to uplift the "ground-born" tribes of ancient Chima, but ended up giving Sir Fangar the knowledge he needed to try and conquer Chima, and using "The Great Illumination" to defeat him and undo the damage the Hunters did is what gave him and the Hunters their ice powers after they were unfrozen.

* PlayingWithFire: The heroic tribes use Fire CHI and are allied with the mythical Phoenix Tribe in Season 3 to combat the Ice Tribes.

* SoLastSeason: In Season 3, the Tribes of Chima don't stand a chance against the Ice Tribes with their equipment powered by normal CHI, and only with the help of the Phoenix Tribe and their Fire CHI are they able to fight back.
