* {{Homage}}: Multiple. The Goth Bookstore showcases George [=McFly=]'s book from ''BackToTheFuture'' on its shelves. When Danny collapses from cold in "Urban Jungle", he wakes up floating in his underwear in a water tank a la ''TheEmpireStrikesBack''. Then there's "three for the [=OpCenter=]" as they "beam up" to the upper level of the Fenton house. And those are just the really obvious ones. There's more than a few examples in dialogue as well.

Following its initial nine episodes (known affectionately as the Magnificent Nine by longtime fans), the show began to become more and more "[[TheFairlyOddparents FOP-ish]]" and began to borrow heavily from its predecessor. This was all but embraced in the latter seasons, which saw an increase in gags, gross humor, and DeusExMachina endings. However, the series also [[GrowingTheBeard grew its beard]] by Season 2, ending in a mostly mixed Season 3.

The complete first season was released on DVD on September 13th, 2011 by ShoutFactory, the first part of Season 2 released on April 3, 2012, with the second part to be released on August 28, and Season 3 at a later date.

* BatmanGambit: Vlad's preferred MO, although he's not always as good at predicting responses as he thinks he is.

* BigOlEyebrows: Butch Hartman's trademark. His other show The FairlyOddParents, also, invokes this trope

* EvilPlan: While the [[MonsterOfTheWeek particular episode's ghost(s)]] might have their own agenda, [[BigBad Vlad]]'s plan stays the same until his VillainDecay in Season 3: Kill Jack, make Maddie his wife, and make Danny his son.

** Star is Veronica Star from ''FairlyOddParents'', all grown up. Same name? Check. Blonde? Check. Satellite to a non-white RichBitch? Check. A cheerleader? Check. The only major difference is that she is voiced by Tara Strong, not Grey Delisle.

** Vlad Masters is clearly an expy of [[SpiderMan Norman Osborn]]. He's rich, he's a crazed lonely man, he's got a dual identity, just give him a son and you've got the complete package. His origin, meanwhile, is a direct reference to [[DoctorDoom Victor Von Doom]]'s, with Jack standing in for Reed Richards.

** Just look at Danny and try to say that he doesn't remind you of [[TheFairlyOddParents Chip Skylark, Timmy, or Cosmo]].

**** Danny is indeed an obvious expy (or variant) of Spider-Man, in the same way that ''ComicBook/{{Static}}'' or The Leopard from Lime Street are expies of Spider-Man.

* MadeOfIron: '''Danny'''. Even putting it down to a ghostly [[HealingFactor healing factor]], Danny gets shocked, blasted, and slammed into walls so often any ordinary superhuman would at least fracture something. Even disregarding the title character, the ordinary human characters survive at least crippling falls without even bruising.

* OmniscientMoralityLicense: Clockwork, who does some very questionable things. It turns out okay, but still...

* PositiveDiscrimination: Namely, "Women are better than Men", though not as prominent as in ''TheFairlyOddParents''. Most prominently seen in Maddie and Sam, but does show up elsewhere.

* ShoutOut: To comic books, crewmembers, ''TheFairlyOddParents'', VideoGame/{{Doom}}, and ''StarWars''.

* XMeetsY: ''SpiderMan'' meets ''{{Ghostbusters}}''.

* OmniscientMoralityLicense: Clockwork, who does some very questionable things. It turns out okay, but still... (Paraquote: "So he grows up to be the most powerful being on the planet. What do you want ''me'' to do about it?")

* PostDramaticStressDisorder: Rather often, starting in the first episode with Danny saving Tucker and Sam from the Lunch Lady, only to collapse afterward. Subverted in the climax of "[[TheMovie Ultimate Enemy]]". Eventually, he grows out of this as he gets used to his powers and develops them further.

* YouLookLikeYouveSeenAGhost: Or something really scary that we ''don't'' see every day!"

* DropWhatYouAreDoing:

** Arguably, any ghost trapped in the Fenton Thermos. Temporary, but still sealed away.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotAwesome: Jack Fenton is made of this. When [[MesACrowd split]] into "hero" mode and "slacker" mode, hero!Danny is too.

* ChangedMyJumper: Subverted in the episode ''Masters Of All Time'' where Danny's time travel to the 1980's reveals that his black jumpsuit is actually ''fitting'' for that time period.

** Some of the episodes use punny names to hint at villain reappearances like [[spoiler:"Dr. Burt Rand" from the episode Doctor's Disorders]] or [[spoiler:M.Bursback Cruse line in Pirate Radio]] referring to [[spoiler: Burtrand, Penelope Spectra's assistant and Ember's second appearances respectively]]

* PositiveDiscrimination: Namely, "Women are better than Men", though not as prominent as in ''{{The Fairly OddParents}}''. Most prominently seen in Maddie and Sam, but does show up elsewhere.

* RichSuitorPoorSuitor: Maddie with Vlad (rich) and Jack (poor/middleclass) although Maddie appears to have married Jack before Vlad became rich and is discusted by his attempts to woo her now this discust is not just because she's married she genuinly loves Jack more than money.
** More incidental Danny with Valerie(poorish) and Sam(rich). Since by missing the right episodes Sams doesn't appear wealthy, and Valerie and Danny broke up before they admit to being more than just friends this is not Danny choosing money over love.

* EverythingIsOnline: and therefore vulnerable to being hacked via one of Tucker's [=PDA=]s.
