** Undine is (understandably) very reluctant to talk to others about the events of Chapter 2, and some of that reluctance eventually leads to trouble down the line. [[spoiler:A lot of pain could possibly have been avoided if she'd been equally candid about Goops with the authorities and Tessa from the get-go. As-is, Undine only reveals it to Tessa at a point where Tessa is severely traumatised (and after what is implied to be weeks of the two missing each other over the phone) and after she's already talked with Goops. As a result, Tessa has a complete breakdown and ends up making a DealWithTheDevil.]]

* ElementalHairColors: Most of the girls' hair colors match their elements. Undine (water) and Melty Frost (ice) have blue hair, Sally and Melty Flame (both fire) have red, Gwen's (earth) is brown, Tessa and HP (HeartIsAnAwesomePower) are pink.

** A brief scene in [[https://www.sleeplessdomain.com/comic/chapter-11-page-26 Chapter 11]] ends with Zoe's younger cousin Claire asking to see the former's magical girl form, which had not yet been shown to the audience. The last panel before the end of the scene is a shot from the hallway outside the room, with the glow from Zoe's offscreen TransformationSequence just visible inside.

* ElementalFusion: The members of [[FourElementEnsemble Team Alchemical]] can combine their powers to form new elemental {{Combination Attack}}s in battle. [[BlowYouAway Alchemical Air]] and [[PlayingWithFire Alchemical Fire]] can combine their powers to create a raging firestorm, [[DishingOutDirt Alchemical Earth]] and [[MakingASplash Alchemical Water]] can [[GreenThumb restrain enemies with vines]], and Alchemical Earth and Alchemical Fire can summon and control [[MagmaMan molten lava]].

* BladeOnAStick: There have been at least two incarnations of "Team Spear" within two decades of the story's present day. Heartful Punch's mother was a member of the earlier incarnation as "Moonlight Spear". She wielded a naginata while her teammates, Sunlight Spear and Starlight Spear, used a halberd and guandao respectively.

** The AltText from [[https://www.sleeplessdomain.com/comic/chapter-7-page-10 Chapter 7 page 10]] is a lyric from [[Music/DMX "X Gon' Give It to Ya"]], with a twist:

** Undine gains Tessa's big fancy bow after Tessa heals her, and, as of Chapter 14, Undine's costume has sleeves that match Heartful Punch's costume, indicating that she's become more comfortable with the idea of teaming up.

* GraveMarkingScene: Tessa is shown to visit the graves of [[spoiler:Gwen, Sally, and Sylvia, the fallen members of Team Alchemical,]] throughout the course of the comic, and is implied that she visits them every day, to the point where she keeps comes home from school late. [[spoiler: The first time we see her at their graves, she begins TalkingToTheDead, and expresses her sorrow and her SurvivorGuilt that she was unable to save the other members of Team Alchemical, save for one second survivor. Later on, as her mental health deteriorates, she comes home later and later, and it becomes one of the only places where she can (temporarily) regain her sanity.]]

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: Tessa is in charge because she has the strongest powers; the other girls' resentment of this kicks off the plot.

* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: Tessa takes just one night off, to show her teammates how much they need her, even coming out of her TenMinuteRetirement to help them just after they've gone out to fight, and it [[spoiler:gets all but one of her teammates killed, and Tessa depowered.]]

* FiveFiveFive: [[http://www.sleeplessdomain.com/comic/interstitial-2 Interstitial 2]] shows a {{magical girl}} recruitment poster, with a phone number written using Roman numerals: V.V.V.-IX.VI.VI.IX. In Arabic numerals, that's 555-9669.
