Admittedly, there isn't much to go for this WMG aside from her "Statistically speaking..." bit in the pilot, but it sounds like a stereotypically 'smart person' thing that wouldn't be out of place in cheesy kid shows in the era. And with Mercury becoming a more spunky character in the pilot, it seems odd to have the role of the brains of the team be vacant.
