** This is impossible for several reasons: A) Niko died 12 years ago (it's not made explicite ''which'' twelve years ago. Given Niko must have been at lead least 14 when she died and her friend is mentioned to be older than her, she would at very least be in her twenties, maybe even thirties by the time of PQ. And B) Niko's friend is named "Yuki". Not Yumi, Yuki. That's the reason Rei latches onto Yukiko early in the P4 route, by the way.

[[WMG: Rei's BigEater tendencies are inspired by Buddhist cosmology.]]

This WMG involves serious spoilers, so it's advisable to play the game before reading further.

[[spoiler:In Buddhism, there is a class of beings called Pretas. Traditionally, these are seen as spirits undergoing extreme levels of suffering. Since suffering is intimately connected to desire, this often manifests as drastic hunger and thirst (sometimes for disgusting things like feces or urine, but often just for normal food and drink).]]

[[WMG: Niko is [[Persona4Arena Labrys' mother.]]]]
Aside from the fact that they share an identical backstory and personality (a lot of attention is paid to pointing out that Niko always wanted to go to school and be useful to the world. - The two key character traits known of Labrys' mother.), Persona4ArenaUltimax also reveals that [[spoiler: Labrys' mother has indeed been deceased for a while and that the Inaba Municipal Hospital (where Niko lived and died) was used by the Kirijo Group to hold patients involved in their experiments.]] The only difference apparent is that Niko lacks the Kansai accent that Labrys' mother passed on to Labrys herself, and this is easily explained away as playing into Persona Q's theme of change: Labrys' mother was quite obviously still very young when the data necessary for the fifth generation personality patterns was taken from her, so by the time she died (in Inaba, as Niko), her language would have adapted to the way the nurses and other patients around her spoke, eliminating her Kansai-accent. It's also worth noting that Rei and Labrys, despite not sharing a voice actress, have rather similar voices in Japanese.

Most tellingly, however, Aigis (who canonically holds a copy of Labrys' memory in her data storage) has a strong reaction when she first meets Rei, which is very akin to her reaction upon first meeting Labrys in Persona4Arena (she says that she feels drawn to Rei and wants to know more about her, tho she doesn't know why). As this is never explained in PersonaQ (unless I missed something) and Niko can't be Aigis' mother, as Aigis' mother is clearly shown to be still alive in the canonical Drama [=CDs=], this is most likely the creators' way to cement Niko's identity as Labrys' mother as canon without giving it spotlight that might detract from the main story-line.

And I'm being so vague because I just can't use spoiler tags in WMG title posts. Basically, [[spoiler: the girl that wrote that letter for Rei/Niko was Yumi Ozawa, the Acting Club's Sun Social Link in Persona 4.]] She's around the right age, so why not?

Margaret kind of hints at this in the Persona 4 path, and with all the other various crossovers... it only makes sense.
