Despite all of this, or perhaps because of it, its design is [[AwesomeButImpractical woefully wasteful,]] seemingly [[RuleOfCool for aesthetics.]] Seriously, ''half the aircraft's weight'' must be those massive metal doors everywhere! The other half, of course, being 1,000 tons of swastikas. You could sew together another Zeppelin from all the Nazi flags this thing carries. Still, it's not as if you could mount the Thule portal on anything ''smaller...''

The game's plot is a continuation of ''Return to Castle Wolfenstein'', which was itself inspired by ''Wolfenstein3D'' (and, before that, the original ''CastleWolfenstein''), and features American super-spy B.J. Blazkowicz attempting to foil an attempt by the Nazis to harness the power of the Black Sun, an ancient alternate dimension which the SS are using to create all manner of {{Super Soldier}}s and monsters. Besides an arsenal of WWII-era firearms and several experimental Nazi energy weapons, B.J. is also assisted by a magic amulet that allows him to tap into "The Veil" between dimensions and harness special powers such as BulletTime and an energy shield.

* ArtShift: B.J. Blazkowicz looks almost nothing like his ''Return to Castle Wolfenstein'' incarnation (and, by extension, his classic ''Wolfenstein3D'' appearance), which is somewhat odd as all the other returning characters appear largely the same (other than a higher polycount and bump-mapping, of course). He seems to be based on the ''[=Wolf3D=]'' cover art rather than the actual in-game sprite.

To say that this game provides the most satisfying Nazi killfest experience out there would be an understatement.

!!Wolfenstein contains examples of:
* AdamSmithHatesYourGuts: Vaguely lampshaded at the end of the game by a black market dealer who continues to charge you money for upgrades and ammo ''just hours'' before the Nazis are about to destroy the entire town with a super-powered death ray. He says something to the effect of "yes, I have to make money somehow...". It gets even MORE ridiculous when you realize that he was with the comparatively "good" Kriege brother. The "Bad" one, well...

The 2009 sequel to ''ReturnToCastleWolfenstein'', titled simply ''Wolfenstein'', is a FirstPersonShooter using a modified version of the Doom 3 engine developed by Raven Software, the acclaimed team behind such series as ''StarTrekEliteForce'', ''SoldierOfFortune'', ''[[DarkForcesSaga Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy]]'', and ''QuakeIV''.

** Well, they could simply change the appearance of the Director and assume that the former one has been replaced or simply met untimely death.

** This is a potential FridgeBrilliance moment, actually. Even without his gun, B.J. still has the medallion, which is a far better weapon. Presumably B.J. knew this and was just stalling for time instead of actually surrendering to Deathshead. That would also mean that the machine explodes at the end of the cutscene because B.J. used the medallion to redirect Hans' bullet into it, rather than having it simply blow up in a DeusExMachina moment to save B.J.'s life.
*** Probably true: if you look closely at BJ's right hand, he keeps it clenched throughout the confrontation.
