* SequelDifficultyDrop: As far as getting items is concerned. For the special items, in the first game, the chances to get them came up randomly, and you had to specifically knock the character out to win the item. In this game, you earn a shot at one of the special items by completing certain objectives, and once you get the chance, all you have to do is win that tournament to get the item. You're given more forewarning, and you don't have to change your strategy to try to win the item, so it's less nerve-wracking overall. And for the tables, card backs, and chips, you buy them with inventory tokens, and you'll get some tokens even if you lost the tournament, so you'll unlock everything eventually.

** The ''Borderlands'' inventory changes the Inventory to look like Moxxi's bar in Sanctuary from ''Borderlands 2'', complete with ''Borderlands'' music. Claptrap is dressed from his appearance at the Underdome Bank and Creator/SpikeTV Video Game Awards. Steve (heyooo!) also makes an appearance, firing rockets at eliminated players (except Sam; they actually get along pretty well).

* WritersCannotDoMath: Sam says that even though the Sam & Max franchise started out in 1987 (which would make it their ''26th'' anniversary), it's their 25th anniversary since they "skipped 2004"- The justification being that 2004 was the only year where some form of media relating to the Sam & Max series was NOT released. Comic books, video games, etc. However, it would still be 26th regardless.

** On the other hand, it's worth noting that knowing the Sam & Max series's usual style of humor, it's very likely that this explanation was tongue-in-cheek and assumes instead that most fans will come to a more Doylist conclusion, such as the recent event would be a convenient way to help make the Sam & Max themes unique from the previous game.

* ShownTheirWork: Even compared to [[VideoGame/PokerNightAtTheInventory the first game]], which had its fair share of this on its own, this game is absolutely PACKED with references to each one of the series it represents (sans [[VideoGame/TalesOfMonkeyIsland Monkey Island]]), from the dialogue to the music to the personality-based AI behavior to the customizable tables, decks, and ''chips'' to the franchise-themed makeovers the Inventory gets when all three said customizations for a series are selected to the bounty prizes to even the ''individual cups which the characters drink alcohol out of''. It's an insane amount of effort put into a little poker game that shows that even if the creators weren't fans of the series, they certainly did their homework.
