''Clover'' started out in 2014 as a simple reskin of ''[=FireRed=]'' before evolving into a overhauled game in which the full version was released on April 10th, 2020.

** There's a lot of quality of life features from later generations: stats affected by the nature are marked, you start with the Running Shoes, the game has G6 Exp. Share as well as catching EXP, the [=TMs=] are reuseable infinitely, caves have dust cloud phenomena that give Gems and Pokémon, and a precise IV checker. The only things that aren't from later games are berry trees scattered around the region that respawn over time (which is a G2 feature), and being able to catch things in middle of moves like Dig or Fly (which was made impossible Generation IV onwards).

*** ZigZagged with Hyper Training. It's a bit stronger than in ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'' in that the boosted [=IVs=] can be passed down via breeding, but the Bottlecaps needed to use the service are a finite resource.

-->Now that we've finally come face to face, I have a couple of questions for you. When you were fighting Team Karma all the way back in Gadech City, Beehive and [[spoiler: the boat base]], did you ever find yourself at a loss as to why exactly you were fighting them? Sure, it was obvious that Team Karma was doing villainous things, but did you notice anything strange about that? Did you even consider WHY Team Karma was committing these comically generic crimes? Well... I'll tell you why. [[spoiler:[[InfractionDistraction It was all just a ruse, tailor made for you!]]]]

** One of the starters looks like a generic Grass-type Pokémon, except it has a plant growing out of its butt. It’s evolutionary line is literally called “The Anal Plant Pokémon”.

* BleakLevel: Zanyis Town Ruins is a textbook depiction of this. It's a destroyed, completely empty husk of a town, with a perpetual thunderstorm looming over it. The area also has desaturated colors, further adding to the "dead" appearance of the area. The LonelyPianoPiece that plays in the background while here doesn't help much either.
** The Rotting Pit underneath the town takes this UpToEleven. It starts with a difficult puzzle located inside of a dark room that can be lit up with flash. If the player completes the puzzle, they unlock a hole in the wall and can enter the main part of the pit: a pitch-black maze made of rocks... and bones. This is made even worse by the fact that Flash isn't even usable in the maze room, leaving the player in darkness for the entire time. It culminates in one final room where the player must jump on a line of rocks that ''float in the air over an infinite abyss below'' to finally reach [[spoiler:Endranther, a Legendary Pokémon described in its Pokédex entry as representing "the decaying rot of death" which is implied to have been the reason for the destruction of Zanyis Town in the first place.]]

* VisualPun: The trainer in Brock’s gym still keeps the line “You’re ten thousand light-years from facing Brock!” Stepping on the teleporter will then warp you to an asteroid in outer space with Brock on it, making Brock quite literally light-years away.

** To receive a bike, you have to participate in a contest that involves [[{{Squick}} pissing six feet into the air without getting wet]]. Thankfully you don’t see the contest itself, but you do get the [[SarcasmMode pleasure]] of seeing the aftermath.

** There's a hiker trainer named [[Creator/EdmundMcMillen Edmund]] who says he makes a living off of making overrated [[VideoGame/MeatBoy indie]] [[VideoGame/TheBindingOfIsaac games]].

*** Certain Trainers instead incorporate this into their dialogue: a Team Karma Grunt quoting [[VideoGame/{{Undertale}} Burgerpants]], a Pokémon Ranger quoting ''Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure'' characters, a Channeler wanting to talk to you about "their lord and saviour Jesus Christ," a Lass in Rock Tunnel quoting [[Music/CarlyRaeJepsen Call Me Maybe]], a Trainer in Troll Hole talking about jet fuel melting steel beams, a Pokémon Ranger saying how he got bit by a Toxiraptor only for ''the Pokémon'' to die after three hours of excruciating pain... Yeah, there's a good amount of these.

* NintendoHard: The game is remarkably more difficult than the average ''Pokémon'' game, as the boss trainers have well-optimized sets and [[TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers often carry at least one Pokémon to cover their weaknesses]]. Not to mention how many of the routes are longer, nurses outside of Pokémon Centers often cost money to use, and the {{Kaizo Trap}}s that lay scattered across the region.

** There's some SelfDeprecation mixed in too; if you say no to the tutor of Magic Room (which temporarily disables items), he asks what kind of person would permanently take out items. In the final release, items are limited in usage, and Route Masters straight up ban them. There's also a guy in Animango's Department Store that says he's playing Clover and that it's shit.

* KaizoTrap: After clearing one of the more complex Victory Roads around, defeating the other PC rival one last time, you get ready to head for the League [[spoiler:only to get assaulted right at the exit by "[[Creator/SamuelLJackson Fucking L. Jackson]]", who quotes ''Film/PulpFiction'' before throwing at you a team of six Motherfucks with ridiculously high Speed and Explosion as their only move. If you didn't heal after the previous fight, have a Pokémon with Protect on your team, or simply enough HP to survive the onslaught (notably, this fight also disables your items and is even an Inverse Battle from Generation 6, meaning the Normal-type Explosion can hit everything with at least normal effectiveness) you'll have to go through the cave again. He was apparently added there just to screw over Nuzlocke players.]]

* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: The strongest Armando leads its pack.
* BerserkButton:
** Muscledude will tear those apart who bothers it.
** Mennopaws goes on a rampage if its see a pregnant woman. Justified, as she reminds her of her inability to lay eggs.
** Chasumo starts a destructive outrage when someone mocks its face.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Arguably applies to the entire Pokédex, but the Derpato and Lankong lines stand out even by this game's standards. The former line consists of mentally-challenged potatoes, while the latter line is literally just [[VideoGame/DonkeyKong64 Lanky Kong]]. They're also both ''[[InfinityMinusOneSword pseudo-legendaries]]'', with Potarted (Derpato's final evolution) being a stupidly powerful MightyGlacier and Funnedong (Lankong's final evolution) being a LightningBruiser with surprisingly good bulk.
* TheBlank: The Galavik line has Poké Balls over where their faces should have been.
* BloodKnight: Deathorus love to slash other Pokémon with their scythe-like tails.
* BreakingOldTrends: Rather than using the usual Fire-Water-Grass triangle, the Ebin starters use a Rock-Fighting-Flying triangle.
* CharacterTiers: Smoxilon has been described in-universe as an highly-used Pokémon. Not only its classification is the OU Pokémon, its level-up moves are made up of those popularly used.
* ComedicSociopathy: Ebolable enjoying watching people getting infected with ebola by the water it contaminates.
* CuteKitten: Cloucat is an adorable fusion of a cloud and a cat.
* CuteMonsterGirl:
** Lasslee and Wifemin, which strangely have a higher chance of being male than female, similarly to starters. This may be in reference to Primarina, another feminine-looking Pokemon that is usually male.
** Chezetta and Mozzamazel are a combination of slime girls and pizza cheese. They are predominantly female, but have a chance of being male (ironically as high as Wifemin has of actually being female).
** Legendary Pokémon Demiwaifu is appropriately a mashup of many female-looking Pokémon that are often sexualized by the fanbase. Unlike most Legendaries, it has a gender (100% female). (It also has some traits from Blaziken, because it's such a [[JustForPun hot chick]].)
* CuteSlimeMook: Blobbos takes inspiration from the ''Franchise/DragonQuest'' Slime in its design, while also adding a cute clown motif. Granted it's useless in battle, but it's so darn cute (and [[ReallyGetsAround useful for breeding]]) that you're probably gonna pick it up anyway.
* EldritchAbomination: Hanginy and Chancer are creepy, being bloody re-animated corpses of Happiny and Chansey, but they're ultimately just that. Their final evolution Unjoy, on the other hand, is supposed to be the decapitated head of Nurse Joy but mostly appears as an otherworldy mass of glitchy pixels that looks like it's staring at you even when you're behind it.
* {{Expy}}: Premantom is based on [[VideoGame/{{Earthbound}} Giygas]] with elements of the unborn fetus theory.
* GenderBender:
** Due to the different gender ratios, the majority of female Flowre would inevitably evolve into male Florious.
** For the same reason above, female Inbitween will evolve into male Geigh, while male Inbitween will evolve into female Dragking.
** When Slughug evolves into Slugfugg, its gender changes from female to male. Shockingly, this is somewhat of a case of TruthInTelevision and ShownTheirWork - snails in RealLife are sequential hermaphrodites, which means they can change their gender as they please.
* GlassCannon: Glassshot and Glassannon, its evolution, are literal examples.
* GoddamnedBats: The purpose of the creation of Motherfuck, a hybrid of Tentacool, Graveler, and Golbat, in-universe.
* GodwinsLaw: Poizookie was apparently hunted to extinction for being worse than Hitler, even though its meat is poisonous.
* GroinAttack: Legends has it that if you don't talk about it with 9001 friends, Jewipede will eat your dick.
* GreedyJew:
** Chantruth, incidentally used by the Merchant class.
** Jewipede, learns Swindle and Pay Day by levelup, Thief and Snatch by TM, and uses a tricky-feel [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVXnoanopzA motif]] when encountered. Hmmm...
* InformedFlaw: While the Pokedex states that Smoxilon is easy to predict, in-battle it is the [[ConfusionFu exact opposite]], having access to an enormous variety of moves, many of which are considered to be some of the best in the series.
* ItAmusedMe: Hofucno and Motherfuck love torturing people and Pokémon alike, and they find great joy in doing so, although they faint in the process, [[WorthIt which doesn't bother them]].
* JokeCharacter: A great many, fitting of the nature of the game. The most prominent example is probably Blobbos, who gets the attack-doubling Pure Power ability and has a ludicrously powerful signature move in Super Snore, which has '''255 base power''' at the expense of requiring the user to be asleep to use it. However, it has such pathetic stats and a poor typing that it can't take advantage of any of its boons.
* {{Jerkass}}: After scaring people who see it hanged on the tree at night, Hanginy follows them until they cry.
* TheJuggernaut: Once Tripecs start rolling, it becomes an unstoppable force--it will punch through everything that's in its way.
* KidAppealCharacter:
** Pikotton was created to be sold to children as a pet.
** According to its Flavor Dex, Smoxilon is very popular with kids.
* LargeAndInCharge: In addition to being the strongest, the leader of Armando also tend to be the largest.
* MagikarpPower: Clovour. You can use a Leaf Stone on it to evolve it into Chanolour, which is easily more than decent with high Attack and Speed, decent defenses and an amazing defensive typing of Grass/Steel. Or you could keep training it normally, until at level 60 (!) it finally evolves into [[MightyGlacier Kuuroba]], which has an arguably worse typing and stats that would leave it a MasterOfNone... if it didn't have Huge Power, which more than doubles its already decent Attack to monstrous proportions. Unlike Chanolour, it doesn't learn Swords Dance, but it arguably doesn't need it.
** Iplora as well. It starts as a terribly slow mon (with all its Abilities being purely detrimental) based on Internet Explorer. When it evolves (with an Upgrade), it becomes Chromox, based on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Chromox has incredible speed and Abilities that either affect its Speed or an attacking stat, on top of getting access to powerful moves such as Eruption and Techno Blast.
* MasterOfAll: Adesign has 115 points in every stat, making it only slightly weaker than ''[[{{God}} Arceus]]'', and it can learn every TM, HM, and Tutor move.
* MixAndMatchCritters:
** Pikotton is a crossbreed between a Pikachu and a Swirlix.
** Motherfuck is a combination of Graveler, Golbat and Tentacool.
** Demiwaifu uses elements from Gardevoir, Meloetta, Lopunny, Roserade, Mawile, Lilligant, Diancie, Florges, Misdreavus, and Blaziken into its design, and it's worshiped as the goddess of beauty as the result.
** Hofucno is a fusion of Wingull, Horsea, Tentacool and trumpets.
* MyLittlePhony: Inbitween and Geigh are both parodies of ''My Little Pony'' as well as its Brony fandom. Both even have cutie marks; the former has the male symbol, and the latter a pink triangle, a symbol used by the Nazis to label homosexual prisoners.
* MythologyGag: Several Pokémon are jokes around details of the main games. Among the silliest are Elephas, an Hinduism-themed elephant based on ''[=FireRed=]/[=LeafGreen=]''[='=]s Dex and its weird fixation on using "knocking out an Indian elephant" as a measure of power, or Krokling, who is designed to look like [[https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/pgenvp/images/f/f9/061MS.gif/revision/latest?cb=20170303172330 a certain sprite]] from ''Red and Blue''.
* {{Nerf}}:
** The Larvades line got a couple of nerfs in the final release. The line gets most of its better moves (such as Sludge Bomb and Tail Glow) later, and Levitate is no longer Venowatt's default ability, now being one of its Hidden Abilities.[[note]]It's worth mentioning that you can still find a Hidden Ability Larvades in the Vitlya Woods hidden grotto; however, it's a 50/50 chance between Poison Point (which turns into Swarm) and Immunity (which turns into Levitate).[[/note]]
** A few Pokémon had their evolutions changed so that they'd evolve later. Some examples of this include Fuermiga (evolves at level 40 rather than 33) and Drapillar (evolves at level 40 and then again at level 50 rather than at 25 and 40 respectively).
* NippleAndDimed:
** Averted with Mennopaws, whose drooping breasts are detailed.
** Also averted with the Tittai family, who have detailed nipples on top of their heads.
* OverlyLongName: Futabafont's Japanese name is many times over what character limit a Pokémon's name should have, and that's without converting the [[UsefulNotes/JapaneseWritingSystem kanji into katakana]].
* PaperThinDisguise: Notridley. No, that's not [[Franchise/{{Metroid}} Ridley]]. He's clearly got a mustache!
* PersonalityPowers: Toxiraptor got its secondary typing by having such a toxic personality.
* PokemonSpeak: Some Pokémon's cry are made up of them saying their names, such as Pengas and Blobbos. However, multiple Pokemon are implied to be able to speak, such as Squirrap being able to rap, according to an NPC, the Curicrawl line telling jokes in their Dex entries, and Spilefree directly talking to you in the Burial Tower before fighting you (though whether it's because it's a spirit using telepathy remains to be seen). Some cries also imply this, such as Anonymouse saying the Anonymous slogan, "We do not forgive, we do not forget".
* PoorPredictableRock: Although Smoxilon is powerful, it is easy to predict.
** ...is what its dex entry says, but in reality this trope is actually [[AvertedTrope averted]] as Smoxilon has an extremely wide movepool, making it very ''un''predictable.
* RatedMForManly: Kuuroba's dex entry emphasized its exaggerated masculinity.
* ReallyGetsAround: Because Blobbos is in the Ditto egg group, it can breed with almost any Pokémon.
* ReligiousBruiser: Caroline is a Farfetch'd clone who is also outright classified as the Christian Pokémon for whatever reason, and she even has an exclusive item called the Bible that boosts her critical hit ratio.
* SensoryAbuse: In the older versions of the game, both Peperee and Iplora had very loud cries that could hurt headphone users; the former had an unedited clip of a frog screaming, and the latter's cry was high-pitched beeping. These were toned down in the final release.
* SeriesMascot: Despite its uselessness in battle, Blobbos has evolved into ''Clover'''s mascot, often being used in promotional artwork. It also stars in three other ''Clover''-related fangames: ''Pokémon Periwinkle'', a hack of ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue Pokémon Yellow]]'' that replaces Pikachu with Blobbos, ''Pokémon Ultra Quartz - Let's Go! Blobbos'', a hack of ''VideoGame/PokemonQuartz'' that parodies ''VideoGame/PokemonLetsGoPikachuAndEevee'', and ''Pokémon Ultra [=FireRed=] XD'', another ''[=FireRed=]'' hack that features several other ''Clover'' Fakemon.
* SlimeGirl: Chezetta is girl made of melted cheese sitting on top of a pizza crust. Mozzamazel is this times two.
* SmarterThanYouLook: Notridley may look mindless, but he is intelligent.
* SoreLoser: Smogaroben cries for days when it loses.
* StealthPun:
** Vandash is based on a black person, and can learn learn all the HM moves. In other words, it's an HM Slave.
** Fishnism is a feminist fish. Feminists are known for being triggered. So Fishnism is a '''triggerfish.'''
* TalkingAnimal: Some of the Pokémon have recorded dialogues as part of their cries.
* TakeThat: Lots of the game's creatures are designed to make fun of different groups:
** Piguson is a jab at the police, being a pig police officer[[note]]"Pig" is often used as a derogatory term against policemen[[/note]] whose name references the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferguson_unrest Ferguson riots]].
** The Fishnism line is this towards the feminist movement and social justice as a whole. Fishnism itself is an aggressive and territorial fish, while Sjwhale is a FatBitch who relies on mind controlling others to do its dirty work.
** The Upbote line is a caricature of Website/{{Reddit}}. Both members are depicted as creatures who are incapable of normal thought and devoid of original ideas, instead mimicking the behavior of others.
** The Docee line makes fun of artists who draw {{Original Character}}s. Their names are derived from the term "Donut Steel" (a corruption of "Do Not Steal", often used to make fun of overzealous artists), and they both have the ability Trace, referencing the many shoddily-made [=OCs=] who are traces of other characters. Donutsteel in particular is a parody of ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' [=OCs=], with its design being influenced by the infamous Coldsteel the Hedgeheg.
** Mudslacks pokes fun at fans of the aforementioned ''Sonic'' franchise. The Pokémon can be described as a mole wearing a Sonic skin with [[PottyFailure soiled trousers]], poking fun at fans of the series' alleged poor hygiene. Its shiny form also resembles Webcomic/{{Sonichu}}.
** The Smoxilon line throws one at Smogon and their metagaming obsession, called toxic, predictable and mostly popular with children.
* TooDumbToLive: Sapleaf love to sunbathe in open fields. In fact, they love it so much they ignore elders' warnings about sunbathing too long, making them become Ignut, a Pokémon who is forever being burnt alive. They then evolve further into Phantash, the ones who tried to warn Sapleaf about excessive sunbathing, which gets ignored, and the painful cycle begins anew...
* TropeName: Adesign is perhaps the most generic character design ever created. It's literally a white square with "A DESIGN :^)" written on it. Its type is [[NonElemental ???]], as is its signature move "An Attack." Its Pokédex entry reads, "This is a design", and its cry is a monotone voice saying "A noise".
* WorthIt: Motherfuck enjoys annoying others even when it would faint in the process.
* WhoNamesTheirKidDude: Goryannus, the offensively-oriented evolution of Skeletroll. It's a demonic creature resembling the [[VideoGame/MonsterHunter Gore Magala]] whose name is supposedly derived from said creature and "tyrannus" (scientific term used to describe ''T. Rex'' and similar animals). Instead, it resembles "gory anus". Naturally, the game makes fun of it whenever it can, from its category (">Gory Anus Pokémon") to the Pokedex entry for Spookscare, Skeletroll's other evolution:

* NoFairCheating: Cheat in the game, and after beating the champion, you will be arrested, just before you register your team in the Hall of Fame. This effectively soft-locks your game, trapping your character in a jail cell forever. There's a noose in the corner, labeled [[DrivenToSuicide "the easy way out"]], but using it ''deletes your save file''. Note that things like emulator save states are fair game, the game will do this only if you do stupid stuff like hacking items in or getting Pokemon illegitimately.
