** Silenced firearms in general make stealth killing every enemy in an area a trivial affair, allowing you to clear entire bases without getting into a firefight. You can unlock them as early as about 1/3rd of the way through the game depending on how you portion out the districts to your capos. Alternatively, buy the Judge, Jury & Executioner Weapons Pack DLC and you get access to the Silentium silenced pistol the minute you can access the Arms Dealer, which will be immediately following the prologue.

** The Judge, Jury and Executioner weapon DLC, originally a pre-order bonus before it became free to all players just a month after release. Not only does it give you a Hartmann .30 rifle and an Elmwood 1925 shotgun without having to save up, but a Silenced firearms in general make stealth killing every enemy in an area Masterson pistol, a trivial affair, allowing you to clear entire bases without getting into a firefight. You can unlock them as early as about 1/3rd of the way through gun that normally takes nearly half the game to unlock depending on how you portion out play, the instant the Arms Dealer becomes available. Combine that with the Slow-Mo Shooting update to draw easy headshots, and early stealth encounters plummet in difficulty.
** The Throwing Knives from Sign of the Times, unlocked not far into the DLC as soon as the first three

* AluminumChristmasTrees:
** TheMafia actually had a major presence in New Orleans from the 19th century to 1993. It reached its heyday under Carlos Marcello (the inspiration for Sal Marcano). While not having had as big a media presence as the New York Crime families, it was one of the largest and most powerful mafia families in the world with over 300 made men and 3000 criminal associates. Sal Marcano's ridiculously large organization is actually just historically accurate.
** Black Mobs like Sammy's actually did exist. After [=WW2=], many black communities had individuals consolidate control over the crime going on in their neighborhoods and worked to keep out other gangs. They invested heavily in local businesses and had "complicated" relationships with TheMafia. Famously, fixed lotteries like the primary source of income Sammy had were a RL thing too.
** TheKlan actually has a large presence in Louisiana despite the state's large Catholic population. Indeed, Grand Wizard David Duke would form his branch and base it there. That was in the 1970s rather than Sixties, though. So, the Southern Union is not remotely out of place.
** "Sundown Towns" where black folk would be assaulted and killed for no other crime than being black were a real phenomenon. It became a race against time as they would be subject to violence the moment that it was night. Many of these towns' violence were enforced by local law enforcement. Sheriff Beaumont is, horrifyingly, TruthInTelevision.

** The Southern Union, curiously enough. Much of the game's advertisement and magazine coverage has mentioned Lincoln fighting both TheMafia as well as TheKlan. In fact, the Southern Union is only one gang in one district.
** A strange case is this with one of the in-game cars, the De'Leo Stiletto (based upon the first generation Maserati Ghibli). Despite appearing as the getaway car in at least three missions in the game, and being featured in the Faster, Baby! concept art, it's not one of Lincoln's fleet vehicles he can use. The Stones Unturned DLC finally makes it a car that Lincoln can unlock after doing a bounty-hunting sidequest.
