* GoodCopBadCop: In the Extreme difficulty timeline, Charlotte assures Fram that Fram's typical outspokenness will only make Oswald that much more responsive to Charlotte's flattery, making him easier for everyone to deal with in the long run. She refers to this as the "good knight, bad knight" strategy.
-->'''Monarch:''' Is that what you learned at the Academy?! I'm going to stop sending people there...

Added DiffLines:

* BeastMan: The animal-people of the setting are called therians, divided into a broad variety of kin such as dogkin and birdkin. The Monarch recruits several therian knights, beginning with the dogkin knight-errant Schneider.

Added DiffLines:

* DefeatMeansFriendship: The Monarch sets out to form alliances with the nations of the western continent, but ends up having to fight almost every single person they're looking to ally with due to a combination of misunderstandings, the Empire's disrupting influence, and in some cases just plain not having time to do things more diplomatically.

Added DiffLines:

* MagneticHero: The Monarch collects allies wherever they go, and exerts themself to win over defeated enemies whenever possible. They're successful more often than not, with many former enemies joining the knights of Avillon either because the Monarch treats them better than the side they were working for or because the Monarch's unfailing idealism has stuck a chord with them.

Added DiffLines:

* RippleEffectProofMemory: Once the timeline is reset, nobody else remembers the previous version of events... except for [[spoiler:Astrid, who's ready and waiting to join the Monarch's side when they arrive in the Gallus Empire the second time around]]. Even Kartis does not recall his previous interactions with the Monarch, since their time loops are separate; it's not clear why [[spoiler:Astrid]] alone is immune, but the character's apparent MediumAwareness probably has something to do with it.

Added DiffLines:

* GroundhogDayLoop: Emperor Kartis is a "Returner" who has lived the same life so many times he has lost count. His time-looping, and everything he's done over the course of the game, is his attempt to prevent a devastating future calamity. [[spoiler:After their defeat at his hands at the end of the Normal difficulty path, the Monarch also enters a time loop in an effort to overcome Kartis and stop the calamity where he has failed. However, Mu warns that they can only reset a finite number of times.]]

!!Tropes:

* CrapsackWorld: The main setting is a corrupt and war-torn world.
* ModestRoyalty: The main protagonist, the Monarch, wears a mostly black ensemble which, while undeniably snappy and sporting a BadassCape, looks much more like a military uniform than royal regalia.
* PraetorianGuard: The playable units are presented as the Monarch's cadre of elite, loyal knights and recruited heroes.
* PurelyAestheticGender: The gender and final appearance of the the Monarch is entirely up to the player, and has no impact on their character's interactions in the game.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Though the Monarch doesn't take part in combat, they personally lead their knights on their missions and conduct diplomatic negotiations themselves.
