* SinglePlayerGauntlet: The game's training mode allows you to play through a scaled-down version of the game map in which you hunt down one of the boss bounty targets, the Butcher, allowing you to learn how to deal with the game's A.I. monsters without worrying about being insta-killed by human players.

** The Caldwell Uppercut is a revolver pistol that fires long rifle ammo, having nearly the damage and range of said long rifles. However, since it's a pistol and not a rifle, it has massive recoil per shot, is slow to fire, and sways much more than a rifle with a stock.

However, since it's a pistol and not a rifle, it has massive recoil per shot, is slow to fire, and sways much more than a rifle with a stock. A later update would add a variant with a stock and short-range sight.

Clarified the description on averted "One Bullet Clips" with mechanical details, and removed the reference to derringer ammo lost on reload (not actually relevant to the trope or its aversion).

* OneBulletClips: Averted, since most of the guns are 19th century firearms and actually would function by "topping off the bullet reserve" in real life. The only gun this doesn't apply to is the derringer, which ''does'' lose all remaining bullets still in the gun when you reload it.

* OneBulletClips: Averted, since most of Averted for an interesting reason: the guns are 19th century relatively high level of historical accuracy to the way firearms and actually would function by "topping off worked at the bullet reserve" in real life. The only gun this doesn't apply to is end of the derringer, which ''does'' lose all remaining bullets still in 19th century. Detachable magazines are somewhere between "don't exist at all" and "in their very early infancy". Therefore, guns basically fall into two categories. In the first, they have revolving actions, break actions or internal magazines that mean you actually do load the gun when one cartridge at a time and so can freely "top it off" whenever you want. The second category, which is much less common and often at a premium relative to comparable options: there is some kind of stripper clip or speed loader available, but the gun has to physically have the space for you to use it. With speed loaders, your character will just dump whatever rounds are in the cylinder whether they're spent or not and then refill it quickly. With stripper clips, you get a slow one-at-a-time reload it.unless there's space to put all of the rounds on the clip in at once.

* DropTheHammer:
** One ImprovisedWeapon that can be found in the environment is a two-handed sledgehammer.
** The Nagant Obrez Mace is a variant of the shortened Nagant Obrez with a heavy striking weight added to the stock, explicitly for the purpose of melee bashing.

** [[ShovelStrike Shovels]], woodcutting axes, and [[DropTheHammer sledgehammers]] can be picked up and used as heavy melee weapons, and [[ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks the Tomahawk trait will let you throw them short distances]].

* KatanasAreJustBetter: The Tide of Desolation event added the katana to the arsenal. It's quick, devastating and doesn't use up much stamina. With it came the Martialist trait, which turns any katana-wielder into an IaidoPractitioner and gives additional damage for the first strike when the blade is drawn from the scabbard.

** Several guns, such as the Specter 1882 and the Mosin Nagant rifles will eject perfectly good bullets if they're reloaded with a round already chambered. This can be circumvented using a trait called “Bulletgrubber” which allows the ejected ammo to be caught in midair, but still requires that it be loaded, so reloading after a single shot will still mean having to load two bullets. A feature added in version 1.8 allows players to reload immediately after firing, thus avoiding ejecting an unused round.

* AcceptableBreaksFromReality: The developers generally try to maintain a high level of realism with the guns in this game, but have deliberately simplified certain aspects:
** Ammo is divided into three calibers: short, medium, and long. Carrying two different weapons of the same caliber will allow them to share ammo pools. In reality cartridges were significantly less standardized in the 1800s compared to now, so a Winchester 1873 for example would absolutely not be able to share ammo with a Nagant revolver.
** Bullet drop was left out of game since the devs figured there was already enough information that players had to process (bullet velocity, penetration, damage drop over distance, etc).
** The Revenant is an undead Hunter with a see-through fist-sized hole in his chest. However, shooting through the hole will still cause him to take damage as it will be unfair advantage otherwise.

* SelfImposedChallenge: The Revenant, a Legendary Hunter with snow-white skin and shirt, sticks out like a sore thumb on any map at any time of day. Playing as him means willingly putting yourself at a severe disadvantage in a game where stealth is of the utmost importance.
