"Here on Earth, the prince is known as Matthew Star. He is a typical American teenager. He has friends, people who love him. And me, his guardian. I'm the only one who knows how special he is.
Life for us is a series of joys and dangers, for enemy assassins constantly come to destroy us.
Alone, we must survive."
The Powers of Matthew Star was a sci-fi TV show which aired on NBC from 1982-1983.
Matthew Star is a seemingly normal teenage boy whose true identity is E'Hawke, an alien prince from Quadris with super powers. He lives with his guardian, Shep, whose true name is D'Hai.
Tropes:
- Astral Projection: One of Matthew's powers is to be able to leave his body and travel around incorporeally.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: In the pilot, Matthew was named David. He experienced strange dreams, apparently caused by his guardian, Max, playing with a voodoo-like doll of David. The origin of his powers was never explained in the pilot. David also flashed blue when he was using his powers.
- Genre Shift: The second half of the series shifts from a sci-fi drama to more of a cop show, in which Matthew and Shep work for the government and no longer attend school.
- Human Outside, Alien Inside: Matthew and Shep look human in every way, except they have two hearts.
- Interspecies Romance: Matthew and Pam
- Psychic Powers: Matthew Star reads a girl's mind in "Predictions"
- Second Episode Substitute: In the second pilot, Shep replaces Max as Matthew's guardian.
