* GoodBadBugs: The game has a rather strange, complicated one commonly called the 20th Force Glitch. Referring to the buggy 20th force slot in the force creation screen, it's possible to create sequences of borgs placed in the force slots, that allows you to change borgs into other borgs, making it possible to get G-Black and Galactic Emperor without using cheat devices by sacrificing another borg you don't need. The glitch also allows you to adjust a borg's level, color, and certain attributes.
** Several years after the glitch was initially discovered, people have also discovered that it's possible to create "mutant borgs" with other sequences that give them the attributes of other borgs. The effects of these changes range from borgs losing body parts/attacks (ie. a Bug Witch lacking hands and being impaled by her staff), to borgs getting larger ammo capacities on their attacks, significantly more HP, significantly faster recharge rates, etc.

* TheChick: Mana.

* BareYourMidriff: Shadow Girl and Killer Girl.

* AnAxeToGrind: Axe Knights and Hatchet Knights.

** The two exceptions to the general rule are main character Kou and enemy commander Orochi. While Kou is generally depicted as partnering with G Red, as the player, he's free to use whatever he has in whatever order he likes. Orochi technically has two signature borgs - Dark Knight when she's in the Galactic Emperor's good graces, and Death Wing when she's not. However, both can be encountered outside of fights with her.

To a lesser extent, the Cyber Ninja has a pair of HardLight shuriken about the size of his torso that can emerge from projectors on his arms.

* Borg Of Choice: Each of the kids have a certain archtype of Borg that they form their team around.
** [[TheHero Kou]] of course uses G-Red, a well rounded Borg, and being the PlayerCharacter, Kou can use whatever Borgs he want.
** Kakeru: A happy go lucky boy who likes using [[GratuitousNinja Ninja Borgs]], low-cost borgs that allow Kakeru to have the most Borgs out of any partner. They also tend to be melee-focused, relying on their speed to close in fast and hit hard.
** Mana: An innocent girl who uses [[TheMedic Nurse]] and Witch Borgs that can provide support to her partner.
** Usagi: A tomboy who uses [[ActionGirl Girl and Angel Borgs]] that specialize in mobility and ranged combat.
** Tsutomu: The resident smart kid who specializes in using Vehicle Borgs. Slow but Powerful borgs that pack a lot of firepower.
** Tetsuya: An energetic boy who likes using [[EverythingsBetterWithSamurai mostly Musha Borgs]]. GlassCannon borgs that can do a lot of damage with a flurry of attacks
** Met: A boy with a soldier motif that likes using Borgs that [[TrapMaster restrict the opponent's movement]].
** Kitsune: One of the two bullies. He likes using Robot Borgs, which have [[StoneWall high health and defense]].
** Nekobe: The other one of the bullies. Uses Knight Borgs, which specialize in close range combat.
** Kotaro: The youngest of the kids. He likes using [[TheGunslinger Gun Borgs]], low costing borgs with low health but high firepower.
** [[TheRival Sho]]: An enigmatic youth that specializes in using [[WingedHumanoid Wing Borgs]]. Flying borgs that rain damage from above.
** [[CloudCuckoolander Yuji]]: A bizarre boy that specializes in using [[ConfusionFu Knuckle Borgs]] which have quirky gimmicks.
** [[TheDragon Orochi]]: A girl who serves the Galactic Emperor. She uses a lot of Borgs from the [[DarkIsEvil Demon Tribe]], Borgs that gain strength through defeated enemies.
** [[FatBastard Tama]]: A condescending boy in a sailor suit. He specializes in using [[AirborneAircraftCarrier Fortress Borgs]], gigantic flying Borgs [[MightyGlacier that barely move but have the highest health and firepower among Borgs]].

* [[WeaponOfChoice Borg Of Choice]]: Each of the kids have a certain archtype of Borg that they form their team around.

** Orochi's victory pose is practically identical to one of [[StreetFighter Akuma's]] victory poses. All she needs is a "ten" (天) symbol on her back.

* BalefulPolymorph: Bug Witch can turn targets into Roaches, and Death Borg Omicron can turn targets into Death Eyes.

The designs of the borgs are heavily {{Troperiffic}}, taking inspiration from a variety of sources and distilling all the delicious tropes into one package, ranging from {{ninja}}s, [[TheWestern cowboys]], [[EverythingsBetterWithSamurai samurai]], [[KnightInShiningArmor knights]], [[TankGoodness tanks]], [[RealRobot mecha infantry]], [[TransformingMecha transforming mecha]], [[CoolPlane jet planes]], [[DemonLordsAndArchdevils dark monsters]], [[HenshinHero tokusatsu heroes]], [[OurDragonsAreDifferent dragons]], [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters and so much more]]!

* MindControlEyes: Not seen until the ending, [[spoiler: even if you win all of the optional fights against her and she joins you]], but Orochi bears these the whole game - her RedEyesTakeWarning is due to the Galactic Emperor's influence. Her natural eye color is purple. As noted under YouGottaHaveBlueHair, she also has Mind Control ''Hair'' - her natural hair color is ''also'' purple (perhaps because PurpleIsTheNewBlack), but it's not seen until the ending as well, with a greenish-yellow in all appearances before then.

In 2012, Capcom Japan decided to do [[http://www.siliconera.com/2012/03/02/gotcha-force-reprint-brings-capcoms-borg-battling-game-back-on-the-market/ a limited reprint of the game]], even offering a "Special Selection" edition with an included art book. The announcement was met with equal parts confusion and joy, as while many fans were mystified as to what motivated Capcom to reissue a such a niche title, just as many were happy to see Capcom acknowledge the property at all so long after its release.

** Char Custom Rule: The human characters' [[SignatureMon unique borgs]], which are palette-swapped versions of other Borgs (mostly ComMons), have several more levels worth of stat-growth right out of the gate. It's usually [[MemeticMutation three]] levels stronger, but Sasuke is notable for having ''six'' extra levels.
