** Nowadays the best strategy for dealing with 4/20 mode is to basically keep your camera on Freddy as much as possible, since he can't enter your office as long as the camera is on him. Foxy's behavior is entirely based on how much camera usage occurs in general, so as long as you keep looking at the camera regularly it's unlikely he'll make a move, and Bonnie and Chica can be kept in check as long as you regularly keep your eyes on the doors. If you ''must'' check on Foxy, just make sure the right door is down first so Freddy can't enter. The trick is to pace your camera usage so as to minimize the power drain, keep Freddy in place and Foxy from moving as much as possible, and keep an eye out for Bonnie and Chica attempting to move in on the office. Of course, there's still an element of luck to it, since all the animatronics' behavior relies of on a random number generator, but managing the four is actually much simpler than it appears.

** The door and light on one side of the room can lock up and be rendered unusable. Since there's no way to fix this, unless your shift is almost over and lady luck is feeling really merciful, you're pretty much screwed. This typically happens when you've screwed up and let one of the animatronics sneak into your room when you weren't looking.
** Once the power has been depleted too far too early in the night, not even the most skilled player will be able to reach 6 AM before the power goes out and Freddy kills them.
* ViciousCycle: The paranoia that the office tries to induce can cause players to panic, thereby losing track of an animatronic and leaving them more open to dying- which in turn produces more panic.
* ViolationOfCommonSense: Dealing with Golden Freddy requires you immediately do something that will get you killed if you're threatened by any other animatronic- looking at the monitor.

* RealityIsUnrealistic: Many have complained that it makes no sense why the doors fly open when the power goes out. Mechanisms are always designed such that -- when they fail -- they fail in the safest way possible. Assuming the doors' designer doesn't know the doors are keeping out killer robots, they would design the doors to open in a power outage so nobody gets trapped inside the office indefinitely. Specifically, the doors in the game appear to be armored security doors, which seem to be sealed electromagnetically. Electromagnetic doors are a common occurrence in many higher security locations, and for the safety reasons stated above, they will not remain locked if the power flowing to the locks is cut.

No animatronic 'tampers' with the cameras, the static and tendency to shutdown have no known cause in-universe. In addition, the entry for 'Controllable Helplessness' accurately describes what's actually happening.

* CameraScrew: Sometimes the words "IT'S ME" will briefly flash on a camera screen if you look at them. Freddy's face will also flash from time to time, and they just get worse as the week goes on. Also, as the days go on, Bonnie and Chica may appear to flicker and twitch on your screen when in fact they're standing still.

** Even worse with Foxy, as he is the fastest and pretty much bum-rushes right for you if you don't keep an eye out. This can even happen if you listen to the opening message each night after the second without viewing the camera.
** And then there's Golden Freddy, who will appear if both of your doors are closed and you view a strange poster through the monitor.
** Perhaps worst of all is Freddy himself sneaking into the Office. Unlike the other animatronics, Freddy does not just roar in your face. He outright ''pounces'' on the player out of the blue, and sports those soulless BlackEyesOfEvil in the process. With '''no''' warning of his imminent attack beyond his evil laugh and the right Office door being open at just the wrong time.

you turn on the lights in the hallway when there's a mascot there, you're treated with a ScareChord.
** Every time you lose. The animal lose, you are met with one from the mascot that got you pops up and screams ''directly in your face,'' with an ear-piercing "SCCCRRREEEEEEEE". This is especially jarring if they sneak into the room while you're looking into the camera. You think you're safe, but even if you close the doors, it's too late…
With '''no''' warning of his imminent attack beyond his evil laugh and the right Office door being open at just the wrong time.
caught you.

* UnreliableExpositor: Scott says that Phone Guy is this. Credence is lent to it in that Bonnie can appear ''in the same room as the unclothed endoskeleton '''at the same time''''', and does so only to leer into the camera, and ''not do a thing'' about the endoskeleton, which supposedly ''has'' to wear a costume.

* WorkingClassHero: The player character is braving the security job from hell just to make a living, perhaps desperately so. Despite being in life threatening situations on a nightly basis and apparently being paid less than minimum wage,[[note]]Federal minimum wage in the United States is as low as $7.25, and would total $217.50 for a 5-day workweek with 6 hours a day; the player's cheque at the end of the fifth day is just above half that amount at $120,[[/note]] they refuse to reenter the job market again for some unexplained reason.

* HauntedTechnology: There's a chance the safety poster in the East Hall will be replaced with one of four newspaper clippings. They detail the murder of five children whose bodies were never found, and how the animatronics resemble dead corpses and leek blood and mucus... yeah, doesn't exactly take a grade A detective to figure out the real reason the animatronics can move.
