''ELEX [[FunWithAcronyms (Eclectic, Lavish, Exhilarating, Xenial)]]'' is a ScienceFantasy third-person ActionRPG developed by Piranha Bytes and published by Creator/THQNordic, released in October 2017 for the PC, UsefulNotes/PlayStation4, and UsefulNotes/XboxOne. Taking place on the fictional world of Magalan, home to a Human civilization roughly equivalent to modern day Earth, after a meteor hit the planet causing the collapse of said civilization. And just to make matters more interesting the meteor brought with it the element Elex, a precious and limited resource which can power advanced machinery, give people magical powers and re-shape creatures into new and different life forms. Four factions are currently warring for control over Elex:

** The sequel reveals that [[spoiler:the "aliens" (the Skyand) are actually a group of pre-apocalypse human scientists who went out into space to study an interstellar entity known as the Singularity. Elex is actually a portion of the Singularity's life-force that the Skyand used to become immortal and evolve into alien-like creatures. Even after Jax defeats the Skyand, the Singularity is still coming to Earth to reclaim the Elex, and it's going to absorb all life on the planet when that happens.]]

* KidnappedScientist: The Cleric Konrad was captured by the Outlaws, drugged up into insanity and put to work making a nuke to be used on his fellow Clerics. [[spoiler: He's nowhere near as cowed (though every bit as crazy) as he appears and is in fact building a combat robot programmed to attack the Outlaws instead.]]

* DefectorFromDecadence: The Alb Separatists, though their actual objections to the Albs vary. Some are trying to quit Elex and regain their humanity, others still believe in the Albs {{Transhuman}} goals but feel the Hybrid has misdirected the Albs away from this into just being it's minions. For the moment these differences are being ignored in favour of working together to survive Alb reprisals.

* DevelopersForesight: When speaking to Big Jim about his plan to take ver from The Duke he will make some leering comments about taking Nasty as his HotConsort after he has done so. If you have Nasty with you as a companion he has different dialogue and doesn't bring up this aspect of his ambitions, likely predicting a less than favourable response were she to hear this.

* CallASmeerpARabbit: The creature called a jackal in-game only resembles a real jackal by virtue of being a quadruped. It looks more like a small, partially shaved bear with a longer snout.

* ChainsawGood: The Outlaw melee weapons tend to be chainsaw variants.

* NonIndicativeName: The Berserkers are not, as a rule, given to being TheBerserker. Also true to a lesser extent for the Outlaws; they operate without laws but do not match the original meaning of {{Outlaw}}, as their home of Tavar has no law for them to be placed outside (and very few of them were members of other factions whose laws they have abandoned).

* CuttingOffTheBranches: The sequel makes it very clear what canonically happened in the first game: Jax had a high Warm level, romanced Caja, defeated the Albs and the Hybrid, and tried to warn the people of the incoming alien invaders. Flashbacks also show him wearing Berserker armor, which means he joined that faction. The absence of Duras and Duras and Arx also hints that Jax canonically turned them away or killed them.

* SameCharacterButDifferent: Applies to Jax and the Berseker faction as a whole in the sequel. The former has a different voice actor and far different personality, being more openly emotional and an extreme DeadpanSnarker. Justified since it's been six years and he's experienced things such as fatherhood. The latter have lost their hatred of modern technology and their aesthetics have gone from being akin to vikings to more like druids.

* ApocalypticLogistics: Somewhat subverted as the only faction that actively bases its infrastructure, economy and tech on looting pre-cataclysm ruins are the Outlaws. The Berserkers have purposefully regressed to a medieval tech base and use traditional craftmaking to manufacture relatively simple equipment. The Clerics and Albs have managed to maintain, upgrade and expand pre-cataclysm industries.
